Event Desktop/Mobile banner/Profile pic contest

As you can see we don't have a banner. If you have any good shots from around the heights post them here and we'll see which everyone likes the best! Looking to update the profile pic too.

Desktop Banner: 1920 × 384 px (5:1 aspect ratio)

Mobile Banner: 1600 × 480 px (10:3 aspect ratio)

Profile Pic: 256 x 256 px (1:1 aspect ratio)

File Type: PNG

Max File Size: 500 KB

I think I got the requirements right but correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks!

Is street sweeping actually happening on your block?

Are cars actually being moved for street sweeping on your block?

I’m near 170th and Broadway, and I haven’t seen cars being made to move for street sweeping in over a year. Tickets seem to be issued only sporadically.

Is anyone else seeing this?

Are cars being made to move so the sweeper can get through on your block?

Bottle Return

Where are we returning our cans and bottles these days? They got rid of the machines at Fine Fare GWB, and the bottle return at Target stops working if you so much as look at it funny.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good stylist in Washington heights or nearby? Looking for a long layered cut sort of shaggy cut.

Dry Cleaners

My dry cleaner has shut down and closed for good (W. 158th-Riverside Dr). The other nearby cleaner wants $10 to launder a men's dress shirt?!

I think I am going to try a highly rated and reasonably priced joint called Clean Jeans Dry Cleaners in the Bronx. Only problem it is 4 miles away and 55min on public transportation. But a machine pressed laundered shirt is only $4.50

Any suggestions?

Heights kids’ bday venues?

Hey, neighbors! I’ve lived in the Heights for about 15 years, and I was silly enough to have a kid in December, when Javits/Bennett bday parties are pretty no-go.

Kiddo is turning 6 and has decreed that this year she will not settle for the “special outing with a friend” thing we got away with last year.

We did her second and fourth birthdays at the Y on Nagle, but the price then was literally HALF of what it is now ($600+ now, with no added value). For her third, we did a party with the Artz space (used to be Little Red Rocket back in the day) on 181 and Riverside, but they closed.

I’m aware of the following places that might rent space and/or do birthday programs:
-YM/YWHA of Washington Heights
-the art studio on 187th/Pinehurst
-Mt. Sinai Jewish Center
-Hebrew Tabernacle
-Fort Washington Collegiate Church (up in the air now because of new management/owners)
-Le Cheile
-Dance Project of Washington Heights
-Hudson View Gardens community room
-Castle Village community room

(Anyone know if Cornerstone/Our Savior’s Atonement on Bennett rents space for this kind of thing?)

Anyone have additional suggestions? Ideally looking for a place that can host at least 20 kids, so at least 40-person capacity, and if you have any experience with getting kid-friendly entertainment (clowns, bounce houses, crafts, etc.) arranged in that space, I’d love your wisdom.
