Testing Nuclear Escalation in Simulator Battles!

27 October 2026

Fluff Image

Calling all pilots! Today we’re inviting you to take part in testing of the large-scale Nuclear Escalation mode in Simulator Battles.

When: From October 27th (13:00 GMT) until October 29th (13:00 GMT)

Where: Events & Tournaments → Nuclear Escalation.

Features

This is the same Nuclear Escalation mode found in Realistic Battles, but played at the Simulator Battles difficulty level, with the corresponding flight model settings and marker configurations.

You’ll engage on the Tropical Coast and Southeastern City maps featuring the same ground vehicles categorized by era according to their Battle Rating. However, rewards in this mode will be calculated in the same way as in Enduring Confrontation, and matchmaking will be based on the following Battle Rating ranges (which correspond to the era boundaries):

  • 8.7-9.7

  • 10.0-11.0

  • 11.3-13.0

  • 13.3+

Don’t miss your chance to take part in the testing from October 27th to 29th and share your feedback with us. See you in the skies!

Please note that r/warthunder is not affiliated with War Thunder's developer & publisher Gaijin Entertainment.

"Simulator Battles" while i watch a missile tracking me through a mountain

u/lemfaoo 19h ago

You dont get it dude war thunder is so much more realistic than other plane "simulators" because it has IR missiles with FOV simulation!!

35

u/RyanBLKST 19h ago

Is it not a true statement ?

19

u/Cu5a 19h ago

No, having one system more realisticaly modeled doesn't make it more realistic overall

19

u/Bluishdoor76 18h ago

That's literally DCS whole argument tho.... lmao

6

u/lemfaoo 19h ago

No its not

Everything in war thunder is based off of balance first and authenticity / "sim" second.

And dont get me started on how literally turbo mega ass the flight models and physics are.

33

u/Key_Performance2140 19h ago

DCS however, gets far FAR to much glaze, at least WTs flight model is consistent

7

u/BingusTheStupid 19h ago

Hell gaijin can’t even stay consistent with it, sometimes “realism” fucks over a balanced vehicle

9

u/greentanker1 17h ago

Tbf, war thunder's IR and radar missiles do actually have better systems than in DCS (don't know about notching though), so that part of the argument is true.

Anyone calling war thunder more realistic than DCS though is just a retard

-2

u/Bluishdoor76 15h ago

So war thunder is a more realistic combat game got it...

-1

u/greentanker1 15h ago

I really hope this is sarcasm..

-3

u/lemfaoo 17h ago

The radar missiles especially after recent updates are more realistic in dcs.

7

u/LanceLynxx 16h ago

It unironically is

0

u/lemfaoo 16h ago

No it unironically is not.

There are so many holes in war thunders sometimes more realistic than some dcs modules "simulation" that its really not appropriate to say that flat out.

5

u/LanceLynxx 16h ago

Yes, it is appropriate. The fundamental engine and physics simulated by WT beat DCS in almost every regard.

NE as simulator battle? I can barely evade broken spaa with regular mouse control and name tags.

if spaa is as strong as in rb, it's already failed

31

u/David_from_Venezuela 19h ago

Also the convoy spaa in ec sim will just randomly blast you out of the sky, seems like it will be even worse in NE.

9

u/No-Falcon-3966 17h ago

So it's not just old coding remains in those singleplayer missions? Because when I tried to train Sim with these, exactly that happened all the time

7

u/David_from_Venezuela 14h ago

Yeah and sidams can't even be targeted by arm's because they are laser guided, you wouldn't know that from their range or accuracy though.

8

u/No-Falcon-3966 14h ago

And as far as I know, m163 has no guidance at all. It still lasers you out the sky 5km away instantly while going beyond its speed limit

5

u/ReikiKage 11h ago

Its just as strong AND the worst part is it keeps the "useful rewards" mechanic. So you're limited on rewards.

43

u/Planned-Economy 19h ago

YES

I was wanting to try out this gamemode in sim. A lot slower paced, more methodical. I’ll probably get a higher chance to do something instead of just getting instantly reamed by ItO 90s

50

u/Jarzak1 19h ago

You know that propably AA stays the same as AirRB EC? Means its totally broken - tracking you through ground, mountains, etc...

32

u/Planned-Economy 19h ago

Yeah, but I’m counting on a different control scheme and gamemode tricking me into being slower and more deliberate with my actions. I will psyop myself into being a better player

4

u/Cu5a 19h ago

Knowing gaijin it'll be same map, same layout with shit SA

33

u/neeboo 19h ago edited 19h ago

Hahahahahahaha useful actions rewards way to kill a game type before it even releases

Edit: to those who don't know, it'll take 30x more effort to kill ground targets with the limited awareness SB gives you, and you'll get even less rewards

6

u/Kharak_Is_Burning 14h ago

With the daily 300% booster and Netz I’ve been clearing 1M SL easily per NE match. Useless actions might get you a tenth of that.

-1

u/No_Figure7868 9h ago

I know it’s really weird concept but some people play games for fun.

2

u/neeboo 8h ago

And some people like to have fun and progress through Tech trees at a decent pace. Useful actions prevents that

0

u/No_Figure7868 7h ago

Never had any trouble with progression by playing mostly air sim.

Useful actions keep the bots away and people whose only interest is min maxing research time.

Mid tier props is the most fun and always populated, people there aren’t doing it for the grind.

22

u/fegeleinn 19h ago

My bet is on they just copy pasted the mode from RB without taking account of the difficulty level of the similator battles. Surely it will be fun.

11

u/NotanPilot 19h ago

Dead on release, if you want cockpit view experience just play the normal mode, this one has the sim reward system which is totally abysmal

1

u/No_Figure7868 9h ago

Crazy concept that people play games for fun?

8

u/Roda_Leon 19h ago

What about rewards? Will AA be nerfed in some way?2

32

u/Roda_Leon 19h ago

"rewards in this mode will be calculated in the same way as in Enduring Confrontation" so doshit rewards system with cap on maximum amount of reward

8

u/EnvironmentalBox6688 19h ago

Man, if only planes had some systems modeled a bit more.

As it stands I think using anti radiation missiles in the Mig-27M is virtually impossible. Zero hud symbology or locking tone. You just have to guess that you are locked onto something.

3

u/Wobulating 18h ago

You still have the indicators in the top left that you do in RB

7

u/DaMadPotato 19h ago

Not sure what to think of this. This could be very enjoyable as long as gaijin tones down the AA to account for the difficulty of sim.

However, I have my doubts on their ability and willingness to do that.

7

u/Lo0niegardner10 18h ago

This sounds horrendous lol with the sheer number of aa systems and their broken op tracking you need the situational awareness of air rb

5

u/dominik7778n 19h ago

so now we can get spawn camped like in sim and ne combined lovely

4

u/BusinessDuck132 19h ago

I’ve been waiting for this since NE first came out, I absolutely suck at sim but I’m hoping this will be good motivation to learn

4

u/Kharak_Is_Burning 15h ago

DOA unless the omniscient tanks are dealt with. Getting beaned at mach 1 by a Bradley is so dogwater.

3

u/Ugly_Eric 19h ago

this is excellent news!

2

u/ZemlyaNovaya 18h ago

Unless they fix the rewards with NE nothing really matters. Right now its just a SL loss simulator

2

u/LanceLynxx 16h ago

DOA with UA system.

2

u/Su-37_Terminator 13h ago

absolutely not. sim battles rewards are complete garbage from the points to the research to the lions. last thing I want is a subterranean S-300 leaping out of a mountain and pummeling me as I try to snipe a T-80 with an aimbotting commander on the .50 cal.

1

u/Greco250 18h ago

Anything but ECRB

1

u/Brilliant_Score_7936 18h ago

No markers will be cool atleast

1

u/unholy_bread420 7h ago

Suffering or Super Suffering? Decisions decisions..

-5

u/epsilon-4142 19h ago

Ahhh yes. We should combine the long and annoying mode with the mode with twenty thousands missiles

1

u/chris_0611 16h ago

What you don't like about RWR doing beeeppeep beeep BEEEP beep beeeeepbeeep beeeeeep beep beeeeeep beepepppbeeeeep

1

u/LanceLynxx 11h ago

Arcade mode is always there for the attention-span deficient

-7

u/Goufydude 18h ago

lol at all the bad sim players who can't handle this. git gud kids.

4

u/DaMadPotato 17h ago

Aight. I'll put you into a mirage 2000CS4 with 32 countermeasures and send you on your merry way against the 13.3 AA. We'll see how well you do.

-4

u/Goufydude 16h ago

Lmfao then don't fly that plane? Why are you creating problems for yourself and blaming gaijin? Does france have NOTHING else? Are they not a nation with a full tech tree? Are there not OTHER nations, also with quite flushed out tech trees?

4

u/DaMadPotato 16h ago

The CS4 flies just fine in regular sim. It also flies just fine in regular NE even with cracked AA. It will not fly just fine in sim NE however, because combining the reduced awareness of Sim with the boosted AA of NE without tweaking any values is a stupid idea.
