The original 1984 team won against the Megazord and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers!

Like there were still great moments and reveals but for the most part to me it kept going down hill for me. Its been a while and im thinking of a rewatch. Just getting through Voltron Force and I really love this show, I wish it continued.

Anyway back to Legendary Defender. I loved everything they did with Shiro. I wish that Voltron evolved like Voltron Force. Different main hosts and or more things. I remember they did some of this and it was cool but I wish they did more.

So in the big 26 I started and binged through all of Voltron Legendary Defender and, let me tell you, this show is awesome!

I love a sci-fi with a good amount of whimsy, especially with how much the main squad would travel to other planets and interact with unique and interesting aliens. I always find it an extraordinary feat when other worlds are conveyed in a creative way that makes their alien race and society seem well-thought out. And the fleshing out of the Allurans culture AND the Galran empire was done well. Like, no the Galra aren't inherently evil they just have a very intense work ethic and have spent generations in a cruel dictatorship that only values strength, power and purity. The animation aswell was stellar, I always find it impressive how media is able to portray space, the vastness and beauty found in it. The fight scenes and action were incredible, thoroughly engaging throughout which is something I don't find in a lot of action shows. And the giant robot stuff did genuinely have me kicking my legs in hyper-excitement like a child would. Not even familiar with Voltron stuff outside of this but I recognised the homage to 90s anime and it was delightful! Epic stuff.

I know that the final two seasons are controversial, many saying that they're the worst seasons and written horribly. I honestly found them rather weak, but not at all terrible! Sure the writing would gloss over some important details, but there was a lot of elements to balance so I don't blame the writing team one bit. I've seen many shows fumble endings worse and truly butcher all their characters, VLD remained mostly consistent the whole way through. Just would have liked some more fleshing out on some important themes and character dynamics as well as wrapping up some loose ends. And I do understand how some may not like the ending where Allura sacrifices herself to save the universe, becoming one with the cosmos. It was rather bittersweet, and I felt that with Allura always being so quick to use her magic to save others and being the self-sacrificing type, it would've called for a finale where instead she finally learns to live a normal life in peace and focus on herself, with or without Lance. But I digress. It was still cute to see Allura reunite with her parents in a way, even if she did just leave Coran without a goodbye.

As for the fanbase, I'm quite glad I was never part of its haywire era. Although keep in mind I do not have a clean record when it comes to obsessing over ships in a toxic-manner. I've just grown more mature about it but still take shipping wars as all in good fun, or as a growing curve for the youths. I know there was queerbaiting? More promise for gay representation as compared to what was actually shown? I'll admit I knew about Shiro kissing a man in the finale, but was very disappointed by only seeing one flashback with his boyfriend, where they break up, and the next time he's on-screen he just dies. It was a weak attempt at something progressive, even if Shiro ended up happily with a no-name background character anyway. That being said, the queer-coding of Pidge was perfect to me. I loved how after they revealed to the others they were only assuming the identity of a boy to sneak around and uncover information on their missing brother and dad, everyone just accepts them no question and their name and gender expression just doesn't really change. Like sure everyone starts using she/her pronouns for Pidge and their parents called them Katie still, but I like to interpret it as 'still in that awkward transitioning phase', especially with the gag of Pidge not knowing which bathroom to use at the space mall. Ofcourse others can interpret it as they like, maybe the joke really was only about them not understanding the alien symbols.

I also just want to say that with the 76 episode run, the series all in all was quite short. Especially looking at the content itself, 8 seasons could have been 6 standard seasons. Or really the whole show could have been 3 seasons with a sort of "mid-season shake up" like in TMNT 2012. I heard that there were multiple pauses and hiatuses during the run? Which, if the case, perfectly understandable. She-Ra 2018 had some awkwardly short seasons as well. And it's really not a problem, just that I feel that 8 seasons leads people on to thinking theres more content and time for the series, when in actuality 76 episodes is rather short for a show with so many characters and plotlines.

Otherwise an excellent watch, with a few nitpicky gripes here and there. But a very strong show overall!

Anyone else watching VLD for the first time in 26 or as of recent? Any long-term fans want my opinion on other aspects I didn't touch on here? Or even just to respond to some of my points. I'm open to conversation!

Got bored so I drew these

I know this is a Voltron subreddit, but I don’t think there’s a large community for the original anime here. Anyways… been looking to buy this DVD set but it seems to be nonexistent on the market, and I’ve looked places. Not referring to its bootleg versions, but the authentic Anime Works/Media Blasters one.

If anyone is selling or knows someone or somewhere is, I am extremely interested for a reasonable price!!

Do you guys think that everyone in the show can see more/less colors?
I know most of the main characters are human (or half human) but I know at least for some creators/some human on earth can see more or less of the light spectrum
I know I’m probably putting to much thought into that but it’s fun to think about

Cara já estou procurando mais ou menos umas duas semanas arrumo de assistir voltron dublado não tenho problema para gastar mas não encontro para assistir dublado em PT BR

Added to my collection today:)

Εχω ελληνικους υποτιτλους για voltron.

I had first thought that Zarcon would be defeated in season 7 of 8, not the beginning of season 5 but so far they have handled it very well. Like with any empire, it doesn’t end right when the emperor is defeated, there are still countless officers will large armies and influence. And since Lotor was kinda out of the way, many commanders and generals are trying to be crowned. Now since Lotor’s mother is seeing through Shiro and is kinda controlling him, it has me wondering, how long has she been doing this? How many of what happened is because of her influence? How long will it last? So yeah here’s my mini rant.

Update I’m in season 3 episode 6 now

Why lance don’t even think about it😭

My what’s your favourite pop-tart Voltron opinion is my favourite character. Like if you ask I’ll say Keith but The real answer is Manset from 2011 Voltron force.

That is my favourite look him up.

I adore him

hi, i need help with finding some information from a Voltron: Legendary Defender episode :D

i can't remember what episode it was, but they went into an abandoned Galra Battle Cruiser and had to fight something; then the Cruiser blew up

did the creature they fought have a specific name, and did the mission have a name, too?

Holy crap this episode was awesome. Of course not perfect but the ending was perfect. Best ending of the whole series so far.Pidge really needed this stuff. Not to complain or anything but Keith needs this stuff too he was trying to figure where he came from. We really need more episodes like this. So yeah here’s my mini rant.

When I saw the title, I had assumed it was talking about Lotor, not Comander Holt. I was beginning to think they may have forgotten about him like how they didn’t mention Matt for some time. At the beginning of the episode when Lotor was actually helping Volton, I thought maybe there was some good in him, but a user in the comments said not to trust him. Now that I’m thinking about it, why was he considered a high threat? Maybe somehow they knew of his relationship with Pidge and that she’d want to come for him, that is why she ended up on team Voltron. I really like the way this episode was handled, so far the second best season opening, after season one. So yeah, here’s my mini rant.

if Voltron could be made up of 5 of a different animal, what would you choose?

I heard recently that they were doing a movie that was live action but I don't really know a lot about it and trying to research. It is well difficult, when most of the stuff in relation to it is a.i. so i just wanna know all the information that we currently have about it

Hi, I am looking for good fanfiction to read. Recently I'm really into Voltron so I'm looking for fics from that area.

My favourite characters (aka whumpees)are Lance and Keith.

I prefer oneshots but I don't mind reading a few chapters.

My favourite genre is WHUMP and ANGST.

No sexual themes please! (con or noncon)

So please, send me the best you've got! 😄

Thank you in advance!

Art by me:)
