MIXED METHODS one jacket, two different mends

my jacket lining frayed through in a couple of spots at the collar. the first hole was more of a linear tear so i did a blanket stitch around the edges, then just sealed it up with satin stitch. the second hole was larger, so i figured i'd try honeycomb darning. i like it a lot, it makes such an interesting texture!

REQUEST how would you do this?

so im not sure this is the right sub because im not really mending anything with the swirly. but i really really love it and im not sure how to make it look good.

ive mended a few socks and cuffs in the past and recently my brother gave me a hoodie that needs some love and i have been having fun getting back into it! but i am no expert. i did two swirls and both got all tight and stuck out like a cone when i was done. do i just need to lessen my tension or do i need to split my thread thinner too?

bonus pic of the cuff i have been working on that im actually happy with! thank you!

EMBROIDERY embroidery mend / cover up of area bleached by deoderant

This was originally part of a costume (I was playing a tree in a LARP game/party thing), but after that I ended up wearing it just because. After a while the armpit area became bleached from deodorant I was using that had baking soda in it (it also bleached my armpit hair LOL, as I realized at some point it was starting to look orange so I stopped using it). So I decided to add the embroidery as a way to cover up and distract from the bleaching.

edit:
I will add that figuring out how the material behaves took a while, I used an embroidery hoop but the material is very stretchy and sheer. So it was pulling a lot and took a lot of patience in learning how the material responded and worked but I persevered and it worked out. Just a warning if you will work with similar material it takes time understanding how it pulls and so on.

edit 2: people kept on asking how it feels, I already answered this several times, pasting one of my responses here - "I'm wearing it like the third time now and I can't really say it feels like much of anything. Maybe I can feel that there is a tiny bit more bulk there from the embroidery floss, but embroidery floss is soft and it's not irritating. I forget what it's called (this layer of thing you can put under embroidery) but I did not use it. Just went straight onto the material. It might be that I am not bothered or it's just not much to be bothered by. Could also be that my own hefty amount of underarm hair is also cushioning me from feeling much else there."

Read about sashiko and thought I’d have a go - I wish I’d used something more visible for the patch now - my mum had the idea to use kitchen roll as a template pattern!

REQUEST Advice needed please!

Can anybody advise me on how to fix the pockets and collar on this jacket. Additionally I think I will cover the shoulders with a large patch because I have completely worn the corduroy down. I’m not very experienced, so any help with names of techniques and even pictures of things you have done would be a great help. Thanks in advance!

REQUEST how do i mend this? T—T

was in a rush to dry my shirt and held the hot blow drier too close which melted(?) holes into the fabric

the fabric is really thin and stretchy, do i need to use stretchy thread too?

is it possible to do multiple fixes (ie, per hole) or would it be more secure to do one big fix?

REQUEST Need Help Getting Started

Post image

Hiya, I've got this hole in the shoulder of one of my favourite tshirts, it's quite big (don't want to risk stretching the material but think I would be able to get up to my knuckle on my first finger), it's just far enough away from the seam that I can't put a new seam in, and the t shirt is too thin to get away with a patch.

How do I mend this without taking away too much from the soft and flowy aesthetic of the shirt? I've never done any sort of embroidery before this, and would really appreciate recommendations on what to do/good youtube videos to follow. Would also appreciate any colour recs as the shirt is a mix of red/purple and idk what colours would look good 😅

If all goes well I have a few other clothes that could do with some mending/upcycling so advice on getting started in general would be wicked

Thank you!

OTHER Not the most visible, but i fixed my favorite torch glasses at work today

One of the tiny plastic pivots sheared off the side guards on my torch glasses, so i did the only reasonable thing and drilled a tiny hole and used some 0.065" filler rod to make a tiny rivet and very carefully peened it into place. Now my favorite torching glasses work again and are just that tiny bit cooler for it. HOORAY!

I'm curious if this can be mended in this spot where the seam meets. It's where the shoulder hem meets a hooded part. I've avoided washing it since I don't want the hole to grow. What would be the best way to start repairing this area so I can keep using this hand-me-down given to me by my godmother. Any guidance in this from experienced people with mending? Thanks! :)

PATCH Backpack handle before/after

Hello! Just wanted to share my latest mend!

My backpack handle(?) was starting to open up and I didn’t think of a better way to restore than using patches.

So I used some leftover jeans (bc it’s a high stress area and jeans are usually durable) and did stitches in the middle (in yellow to make a “starry night”) and blanket stitches all around the patch with the same jeans color, to try to make the jeans fray a little less.

Very happy with the result!

REQUEST Washing embroidered mends

everytime I wash a garment that has embroidery mends on it, the mend gets all fuzzy and not as nice looking. Is this because I’m not using a backing? or just the result of washing? I’m not going to start handwashing so I want to be realistic. any ideas?

PATCH Visible mending a crotch hole

Here’s my tacky visible mending of a crotch hole. I tried to do Sashiko mending but it didn’t turn out too well because of the frayed areas. So I covered it with some jean patches
