i haven't posted anything yet because i get to filming and get overwhelmed when it comes to editing...and i have no time...

Feedback Some clients really think video editors should work for pocket change and be grateful for the opportunity.

I saw this post yesterday that pretty much sums up why some clients are a pain in the ass.

He was looking for a gaming editor, offering $15/hour for long-form videos and $5 per minute for shorts. I told him to learn editing himself instead of trying to hire someone for pocket change.

He got pissed and replied that he works too much to edit videos himself, and my opinion was useless.
What’s ridiculous is that his time is too valuable to learn a skill, but an editor’s time apparently isn’t worth paying for.

I’m a video editor myself, and I get that everyone has a budget. That’s fine. But don’t expect skilled work for bargain prices and then get offended when someone calls you out.

You want someone to save you hours of work, but apparently you don’t want to pay what that work is worth. And when someone points out the contradiction, they’re the asshole.

Just because you can’t afford someone’s services doesn’t mean they’re overpriced.

Help Help! How would you build a YouTube video editing business from scratch in 2026?

I’m looking for some advice from editors who have managed to turn video editing into a proper business.

I currently work in marketing and have some experience editing promotional videos in Premiere Pro, but I want to move into long-form YouTube editing, particularly personality-led content like Logan Paul, JackSucksAtLife, Simon Wilson and similar creators.

My long-term goal isn’t just to freelance forever. I’d love to build a recognisable editing brand, get regular creator clients and eventually bring other editors on board so it can grow into an agency.

The problem is that I don’t have a portfolio of long-form YouTube edits yet, and I’m trying to work out the smartest way to get started without spending much money. I’m considering making free sample edits to build a portfolio, setting up Fiverr, and building a presence on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.

For anyone who’s been in a similar position:

How did you get your first few clients when you had little or no relevant portfolio?

Would you offer free sample edits to build credibility, or is there a better approach?

How important is having your own brand and social media presence when starting out?

If your goal was eventually to build an editing agency, what would you focus on first?

I’m not looking for overnight success, just honest advice on what actually works and what you’d do differently if you were starting again today.
Thanks!

How do I do this? How much should I charge?

A family friend who has a videography company that does ads for big names and smaller, independent beauty brands has offered to hire me for freelance editing for brand commercials. He didn’t say for how much, but said the rate wouldn’t be super high because we’d be working with smaller brands and the job would be great for experience. He also mentioned he has an editor in Sri Lanka he pays $21/hr.

I have been editing for 9 years, mostly my own films, which have gotten into film festivals. As far as freelance work, I’ve edited 5 videos for various clients (vlogs, gallery exhibition video and some event videos). I’m 29. I’m not sure how much I should be charging (I’m in NY)? I really like this person, but want to make sure I’m not being undervalued for my work

Discussion Everyone claims to be an editor—some treat it as a side hustle, others as a high-level craft. But at the end of the day, clients almost always default to the cheapest option.

The tool he's promoting helps churches stay more organized and spend less time dealing with pen and paper. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Made using After Effects and CapCut (mainly for coloring and the sound library).
Music from Envato, with seperated instruments for buildups when needed.

Making a student short film and one of my scenes audio is not too bad but a bit echoey and just overall not as good as the quality I’m looking for. Looking to try to improve it in any way and make it more cinematic if anyone has any tips outside of reshooting and using ai. Here’s a clip for reference of it

Help I'm being forced at work to use AI for video editing

Hi everyone, I'm a multimedia artist who's been honing their craft for years and who comes from a community that embraces the process as the art. It's my first time at a job where I'm being reprimanded for not using AI, something I've never depended on and even considered using. I can go on about the long-term negative impacts of genAI, but unfortunately in this economy, I have to set aside my personal views to keep a job.

My boss' priority is efficiency and saving time, so that's the main goal of me learning how to integrate AI in my process. I've been doing some research on my own (no one at work is available to train me), but it's all so overwhelming. It feels like an entirely new thing I have to learn, and I'm expected to pump out better results with each new project.

Any advice or resources to help me out? I'll greatly appreciate it.

Discussion AI videos

Why does everyone want like 90% clients who want an ai video ... So there is one company hr connected with me and told me that I will share you 2 assignment videos and you have to create it .. now I was on my way to my current office tho I said yes I will check it out and will make it seems like the assignment was to make 2 videos .. like they have provided full scripts but bhaai the problem is they didn't tell me the ratio ... So I mailed back that hr that what ratio do you want me to create the video. She didn't reply I called her she didn't receive...and since I don't use AI that much I only have Gemini now the free chances are over for me and I am able to create only half of one video .... Like why the fcuk everybody wants an AI VIDEO.. I MEAN just do some manual work dude it will look better . look at the makers of the wildwood they literally took 16 years just to make one movie ..I mean like whyyyy... Also want to ask how can I become a YouTube editor like what skills I should master more and how should I persue clients 🥲😅😅😅

Discussion Is it realistic to make $2k/month as a video editor?

I've been familiar with video editing for quite a while, but recently I've started taking it much more seriously and working on improving my skills. In the near future, I plan to upgrade my hardware and dedicate even more time to learning everything I can and putting those skills into practice.

My goal is to eventually earn $20 an hour as a video editor. And I don't mean just cutting and pasting clips together. I'm talking about developing the skills that make someone a professional editor, including sound design, color grading, storytelling, and everything else that goes into creating high-quality videos.

How a realistic this goal actually is? How long do you think it would take to get there, and how long did it take YOU personally?
