Vent I got fired yesterday.
This is a very new experience for me, but I guess there's a first time for everything.
I was told it was because my patient care wasn't up to the standards they wanted to uphold, which, none of you know me, but if you did you'd understand why that makes no sense. Patient care was my primary responsibility in this role, and as a technician has always been my number one priority in practice. I've always gone above and beyond for my patients, keeping them comfortable and caring for them to the very best of my ability. In addition to this, I was the only person doing post-op care basically at all. That is, if I passed off a patient to take a break, that patient wouldn't be checked on once until I got back (which is something I spoke to leadership about multiple times and it never changed). I had coworkers tell me that before I was hired, patients were left to recover from anesthesia completely on their own for hours, no vitals, no potty breaks, nobody tucking them into the blankets and sitting with them to calm their nerves.
With all of that in mind and at the risk of sounding like a martyr, I'm almost certain this was a personal/political decision on the practice manager's part. Doesn't change anything, I still don't have a job, but I know who I am as a technician and at least they can't take that from me. Now I just have to pick up the pieces of my ego and find a better fit. It really sucks because I liked this job and I really liked my coworkers. Just goes to show you can never let yourself feel safe in a private practice.
If anyone has had a similar experience and cares to share some encouragement for the future, I'm all ears. I'm looking forward to the day where I can eventually look back on this and think "thank god I don't work there anymore."
