Hello Vegan Ireland,
There's currently an ongoing EU citizen’s initiative to phase out factory farms, reduce the number of animal farms over time, and introduce more incentives for the production of plant proteins. This is an approved EU citizen’s initiative, so if it gets enough signatures the EU has to respond.
Seven EU nations need to have a number of signatures over a certain threshold. Two countries have already reached it and I think Ireland could easily be the third. Ireland only needs 2500 more signatures, so if everyone on this forum gets themselves and two or three friends to sign it, Ireland will have met the threshold.
Please consider doing so: https://eci.ec.europa.eu/047/public/

So to start off, I've been vegan for 2 months now, and for the most part I have been consistently been checking ingredients and ensuring everything I buy is vegan. However, around when I first started out, I was heading home from the airport and stopped by supermacs. I knew they had the veggie burger option and googled it to make sure it was vegan. But the google ai overview lied to me. It said that it was vegan and for me to only remove the sauce since that was the only non vegan component. In all fairness, the ai overview shouldn't be trusted and it was my fault for just believing it. Since then I have ordered supermacs like 5 times in the span of 2 months. So when I was having a veggie burger today, I thought to myself of what were the ingredients in the burger patty. And lo and behold, it contained egg and milk in it. So won't be ordering that anymore and learned my lesson. Will be checking ingredients extra carefully from now on. Not posting to get pity points, mainly doing it to expose my stupidity and to never just believe whatever ai overview tells you :P

I had been using zovirax, but that seems to use animal testing, and I'm having trouble finding creams that are ethical, does anyone know of any?

At the moment I often have to shop between Tesco, Aldi and Lidl to get most of my food and at a fair price.
Still able to get my chocolate treats from Holland And Barett, such as the flapjacks and Nomo chocolate.
Do you think we will have to eventually go back to making everything from scratch? Such as vegan burgers, plant based milks etc?

I do my main supermarket shop in Lidl, and every week it feels like another vegan-friendly product has disappeared. No soya yoghurts the past couple of weeks. The frozen vegan product selection has reduced to a few packets of sausages. I'm in the west of Ireland. Anyone else faring better in Lidl?
Bigger question: Are speciality foods (e.g. vegan and GF) just the canary in the mine ahead of a wider food shortage crisis?

I’m visiting a non-vegan friend in another country soon and would like to bring her a couple “Irish” feeling things. For instance if I wasn’t vegan I might get something nice in wool, but of course that’s a no go. I already have some dark chocolate from a local maker but would like to bring a couple other things too, ideally not just treats, and I’m drawing a blank. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Best vegan cheddar I’ve ever tried so far. 3.50€ at Tesco.

Are there any vegan alternatives to lemsip? According to google all their products contain milk and some gelatin plus they test on animals.

Hello fellow vegans. My spouse and I moved here a few months ago, and need advice on where to get our groceries in bulk, preferably somewhere that lets us bring our own containers. We have thus far used a combination of our local grocers & Asia Market/Down to Earth in city centre. They’re all grand but I hate buying packaging everytime I need to re-up on spices or oils. Would love somewhere that allows us to fill bottles and containers we already own.
Some things we go through quickly to give an idea of what we need -
Baking supplies, flour, sugar, soy milk, etc
Cooking and olive oil
Textured Vegetable Protein
Peanut Butter
Spices
I understand I may not be able to find everything at one place, but even cutting down on some packaging waste and possibly saving a few Euro would be so helpful. Thank you so much!

Hi lads, I’m trying to help drop a few kg after gaining while on meds and since I’ve a horrible sweet tooth I’d like to find a nice protein powder. I know everything in moderation and all that but if a healthy alternative at home curbs the craving I’m happy with my treat every once in a while.
Anyone have any suggestions that don’t have that funny sugar free protein health food taste? Also any recipes for some goodies to whip up would be nice! Sooo many that I find have egg and I can’t get egg replacements to work for me lol.

Hi lads, random one but gained a mad bit of weight from antidepressants and want to just be a bit more mindful of my intake. I’m a fiend for snacking and wondering if anyone has any lower calorie snack options or even food to grab while out and about. I want to broaden my horizons from miso soup and jalapeños straight out the jar.

Just saw it in my local tesco - Anyone tired it? I picked up the spicy version too to give a go, might make a butter tofu later and see what it’s like in a curry!

Visiting Ireland/Northern Ireland from Australia and would love everyone's favourite/must do recommendations for food.
We will be visiting:
Dublin
Trim (Puca Festival)
Belfast (Northern Ireland)
Bushmills area (Northern Ireland)
County Sligo area
Galway
Killarney
I would be grateful for any and all suggestions, I suspect some of the area's might be a bit more difficult than others so where to get the best vegan groceries would also be great :)

I know Costa isn’t the best but it was fierce handy when out in an area with very limited vegan options. I haven’t seen it in a while in a few different shops, have they stopped it?

My apologies if this kind of post is not allowed.
Anyone in this group using the workout tracking app Hevy? 🏋️🌱
I’m looking to connect with other Irish vegan lifters.
My Hevy username is markopoloxvx — feel free to add me and I’ll add you back!
Would be cool to have some fellow Irish gym goers on the app to follow each other’s progress and stay motivated. 💪🌱

Hi lads, I’m a hot chocolate fiend and love making fancy ones but I’ve one problem - my marshmallows won’t melt! It’s what I miss most, the melty ooey gooey marshmallows. I can’t think of the name but I’m getting the ones from H&B. My hot chocolates are actually hot so I don’t think it’s user error.
