Question Need scholarship form help. VUW Wellington Graduate Award

If anyone had obtained or is planning to obtain wellington graduate award? I have received my offer of place and need to mention "intended date of enrollment" and "date of final scholarship payment" (for international grafuate award obtained of $10,000). And I have no idea of those dates. And agents won't be helping in self-applying scholarships as well.

If anyone knows any information or can help me out please reply. The deadline is in November 1 and I might run out of time.

Housing Incoming international Master's student at VUW: Should I secure long-term accommodation before arriving or find a flat once I'm in Wellington?

Hey everyone!

I'm 26, single, and moving from Southeast Asia to Wellington this November to study a Master of Global Business at VUW (Pipitea campus). My student visa and enrolment are all sorted, but I still haven't figured out accommodation haha.

It's 27 October and I'm still overseas. International orientation is on 10–12 November, and classes start on the 16th, so I'm getting pretty close to departure.

Honestly, after months of paperwork and preparing to move abroad, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. My biggest concern is committing to a long-term rental without seeing it first. What if the place is damp, uncomfortable, or the flatmates aren't a good fit?

Would you recommend booking somewhere flexible for 2–3 weeks and looking for a long-term place once I arrive? Or would it be better to secure something before leaving?

I'm also torn between VUW halls, a private flatshare, or a studio. I value privacy and independence, but I'm open to living with friendly flatmates.

Any recommendations for reliable rental websites, areas with easy access to Pipitea, or red flags I should watch out for?

Also, if you were in my position, how would you plan the next couple of weeks? When would you aim to arrive and start attending viewings?

I'd especially love to hear from current or former international students who've been through this, as well as Wellington locals who know the rental market.

Thanks heaps for any advice or personal experiences! :)

Accomodation Offer Expiration (PLEASE HELP!!)

Edit: Hey guys, my deposit did end up going through so all is well! Really appreciated all the advice thanks so much!!!

I received an accomodation offer earlier this month for Joan Steven’s which expires on the 27th of October (literally so soon I know 😭😭) which I hadn’t accepted yet because I applied to Vic through an alternate pathway and didn’t receive my acceptance until like a day or so ago. I guess I kinda stupidly assumed it wouldn’t take longer than a month like it has to receive my acceptance but I didn’t want to pay the deposit without knowing for certain whether I had gotten in or not and now I’m in a situation where even if I were to pay the deposit today I don’t think it will go through before the cutoff date for my accomodation offer so I really don’t know what to do. I called the accomodation office a few days ago inquiring about what I should do (this was before I received my acceptance to Vic and thought I just wouldn’t get it before the 27th) and I was advised that I should decline my current offer and then I will be able to receive a second offer for Joan Steven’s if I email them, but reading the information on the accomodation portal says that the waiting pool doesn’t get processed until like January and that second offers are not guaranteed at all. I don’t know what to do in this situation and whether to try paying the deposit anyways and hoping it goes through? Or to just decline the offer and bet on receiving a second one. I wish I could call the accomodation office again but they’re not open on weekends and Monday is labour day so idk if they’ll be open then either so I’m completely lost 😭 Absolutely any advice would be so appreciated thanks so much

Double / conjoint degree first year question.

Hey guys! I was wondering if anyone out there who has done a conjoint degree could help me out at all. I have been accepted to study a double / conjoint degree next year starting Feb 22... I will be studying a Bachelor of Design Innovation (Industrial design) and a Bachelor of Science (Physics). I have tried to wrap my head around course selection for a while but I can't seem to figure it out to meet the criteria for both degrees intertwined if that makes sense. Do I still need to do all the courses in the requirements for BOTH every year?? How do I make it work with less points than 2 seperate degrees.? I am also confused as my offer of place says 3 years and 360 points till completion, when I thought it would take 4 years and extra points / year... I do have a phone call booked with a student advisor in a couple weeks but I thought I would ask just incase anyone on here has done this course or knows literally anything helpful. Thanks :)

Stressing first year law student

i know that we need a gpa of 4.0 (b-) to be granted preferential entry but im currently sitting at exactly a 4.0 and dont know if i can maintain it after exams. If i get below a 4.0 will my chances of getting into second year be bad?

Hi there, looking for some advice on the best way to strategise organising the 5 200 level law courses. How do people recommend taking them, split over two years? Any general advice on 2nd year law would also be appreciated!

Law 200 admission

Hi, i'm currently a first year student doing law at VUW and I was wondering how difficult is it actually to get into second year and whether a 4.0gpa guaranteed u entrance (it doesn't really specify on the website). And whether anyone knew what the gpa cut off has been in previous years and if it is ever above a 4.0? Thanks alot

Question International student application process

Hi, I'm applying for master of teaching and learning in VUW for February 2027 intake. The interview will only take place early November, but I need to settle my student visa application 3 months before departure.. Does anyone here ever experience the same thing? How long after the interview will VUW inform the decision? I'm seriously worried about not having enough time for the visa application 😭

KJ hall windows

I’ve seen some different rooms with full windows that go across the entire wall opposite the door and other rooms with only a small window. I was wondering how many full window rooms are there in KJ cause that’s like my main reason for applying to this hall.

Has anyone at VUW been allowed to study from overseas due to a family emergency?

Hey everyone!

I'm a Computer Science student at Victoria University of Wellington, hoping to finish my BSc in 2027.

Most of my remaining courses can be completed remotely, but I'm potentially needing to travel to Canada for a couple of months next year to help support my sister during her pregnancy.

I'm wondering whether anyone who has studied at Vic has been in a similar situation, where they've needed to temporarily study from another country due to a family emergency or personal circumstances.

A few things I'd love to hear about:

  • Were you allowed to complete your courses remotely from overseas, even if they weren't officially distance courses?
  • Were you able to sit tests and final exams online, or did you have to return to Wellington?
  • Did you need special permission from your course coordinators or the university?
  • Did it affect your enrolment status or eligibility for StudyLink?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through this, particularly if you were studying Computer Science or another degree with labs or practical assessments.

I'm hoping to find a way to support my family without having to delay finishing my degree, so any advice or personal experiences would be super helpful. Thank you! :)

Question How many of you are studying psych lol

I want to study it but everyone's telling me not to because you have to study for like 10 years to be a psychologist/therapist and it's one of the most popular majors so it's high competition. I would honestly be willing to rack up the student debt and study for a long time because I take great interest in psychology but how bad of an idea is it? Should I just do counselling or stay working full time...? I feel so discouraged :/
