1. I'm really sorry for shattering that big glass door at Hamilton library when I kicked at the door frame and missed. It was NOT on purpose. Everyone came running to see if I was ok and no one saw that I broke it.

2. I'm sure no one missed the obscure library book that I kept for 35 years before I returned it, but sorry for that, too.

3. I didn't tell anyone that I got paid twice for teaching at HCC one semester. Anyway, sorry.

Hey everyone!

I'm planning on attending UH Hilo in Fall 2027 as an international student and will most likely be staying in the dorms.

I play a lot of video games like Marvel Rivals, Fortnite, and a few others, so I'm planning on bringing my gaming setup with me lol. It's honestly one of the few things keeping me sane during school 😂

I was looking through the housing policies and saw that personal Wi-Fi routers aren't allowed, so I was wondering if the campus Wi-Fi has any restrictions on online games or certain websites? I'm currently working on my associate's degree at a college back home, and our campus Wi-Fi blocks games like Marvel Rivals, which is pretty annoying.

I also came across some info about UH Hilo having an esports club and a gaming lounge, which sounds pretty cool! Is anyone here part of the club or familiar with the lounge? I'd love to hear what they're like.

For those living in the dorms, how's the Wi-Fi when it comes to gaming? Is it decent enough for multiplayer games, or should I expect some lag and high ping?

Just wanted to get an idea of what to expect before I bring my whole setup halfway across the ocean lol. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!🥹

I’m looking to study abroad in Sydney for my junior year and was hoping to hear people’s experiences (even if not at Sydney, but defo would LOVE to hear any Sydney stories)

Ohhhhh my god I’m a student at UH Hilo living in Alahonua and not exaggerating the fire alarm goes off at least twice a week, usually in the evening and the middle of the night.
I know sometimes it’s because somebody burns something in the kitchen, but this Monday it went off at ~1:30AM for only two beeps, and then AGAIN at ~3:00AM for twenty minutes straight.
As I’m writing this, Thursday at 7:22 PM, it’s been going off for like five minutes. I haven’t gotten an email explaining any of them since the first time it happened.
Does anyone know why? Is this not a fire hazard? The alarm goes off so frequently that everybody ignores it. Nobody evacuates.

Hi, everyone! I’m a dental hygiene student at UH Manoa. I’m currently looking for patients this semester who want a dental cleaning, especially those who haven’t had one in a while!

Services: comprehensive exam, oral cancer screening, dental cleaning, X-rays (if needed), fluoride (optional)

Cost: $25 (CASH ONLY)

Location: UH Manoa Campus

Appointment availability: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with both morning and afternoon appointments available.

PLEASE NOTE: It’s a learning facility! The assessments and cleanings are very thorough, and our faculty have to check our work. Therefore, the appointments are longer than a typical dental appointment (about 4 hours). Depending on your individual treatment needs, additional appointments may be needed — sometimes 2-3 visits.

All care is closely supervised by board-certified, licensed dental hygienists and dentists!

If you have any questions or would like to schedule, please comment/message! Thank you!!

Aloha kākou,

I’m an instructor that’s been dragging my feet in adopting Lamaku and staying with Google Classroom, but they are pushing hard from the admin side for us to transition over. From the student side, what are your thoughts on Lamaku?

Hello, im an independent resercher from Europe interested in the history of Oceania.

Im primary interested in pre-contact political history. And through the research i came across Marshall Islands. And the most important sources were written by Jack A. Tobin, all of them are hosted in Hawaiian & Pacific Collection under Identifier: MANUSCRIPT-P00061, only to read.

Here I need help. If someone lives in Hawaii and could voluntarily help me by going there, and taking photos of these documents, i would be more thank thankfull... (I can share details in the DM's)

I really don't know what to do, since Jack Tobin's sources are one of the best on the subject, and at this point, asking people on subreddits is my last ray of hope. I know it's a lot to do for a random person on the internet, but at least by asking i will know that I've used all the possible ways to access it.

Even upvoting will help. Thanks <3

Aloha! I am considering a lease at the 2br Hale Kawili apartments which look to be ~$1150 after utilities, which is $575 a person shared with two people. The lease would be 1 year but it sounds like early moveout can work if you find someone else to take on your lease.

If you're interested in being my roommate beginning this fall (2026), please DM me! I'm 35, queer/nb, ideally seeking a female/queer/trans/nb roommate. Graduating in the fall. Quiet and responsible and sweet are the vibes I hope to share with a roommate.

Mahalo 🧡

Anyone else expecting a refund this summer? Mine was released 05/26 and still no word annd haven’t gotten it yet. Anyone got any predictions when we might get it, was hoping to use it for some classes that’s already been started.

Wish we would get the refund before courses even started:/

What would you suggest for a high school graduation gift for an incoming UH freshman?
I assume they won’t be able to pack too much for the move over there…

And I’m out of touch with that age group.

Thanks!

Dear all,

I am currently a student at the University of Salzburg, where I am working on my Bachelor’s thesis focusing on David Malo. Unfortunately, I have encountered some difficulties accessing specific literature through my home institution, even via VPN. My research indicates that the required texts are available in your university's digital collection. I would be grateful if anyone could assist me in obtaining copies of these materials for my research. Please let me know if you are able to help! Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

Best regards, Christoph

Istg all these fuck*** wifi here at manoa literally sucks. You have to login every time and sometimes the authentiction page just doesn't even show up. Atp your literally screwed goodluck having wifi at that point. The whole entire school SUCKS when it comes to getting wifi. It is so annoying. You would have an assignment due and your laptop cant fuc**ing connect to the internet. IM SO MAD. like UH do better. I would honestly advise not even coming to this school just because of that. Or buy your own 24/7 hotspot cause holy crap, it is extremely annoying. Like this would happen once a month for me. I am a student at UH and I can see why everyone leaves. Like it sucks so bad.

Hi! I’m a first-year dental hygiene student at UH Manoa. I’m looking for people who are interested in getting a dental cleaning to help me pass my requirements. Looking for someone who needs a regular dental cleaning (especially if it has been 6 months-1 year since last cleaning).

There is a $25 fee for the entire treatment (cash only, no insurance required)! The cost can be fully waived for UH Manoa students who have QUEST insurance.

Dental hygiene services include:

• Comprehensive oral examination
• Dental cleanings
• Dental X-rays (if needed)
• Fluoride (optional)

Appointments:

• Appointments take place at UH Manoa
• Mondays or Fridays (7:40am-12:00pm OR 12:40pm-5:00pm, depending on the day)
• Appointment length: 4 hours (may require multiple visits) because it’s a learning facility. So I’m looking for someone who can stay for the entire 4 hours, preferably someone with a flexible schedule on those days!

Board-certified, licensed dental hygienists and dentists closely supervise all care.

If you’re interested (serious inquiries only), please fill out the form https://forms.gle/dbjvjA8BadyQxQje7 or DM me if you have any questions. I’d really appreciate the help!

Hi everyone!

I’m a dental hygiene student at the UH Manoa Dental Hygiene Clinic and I am looking for a patient candidate for my clinical board exam.

I’m specifically looking for someone who has not had a dental cleaning in 3+ years or has never had a cleaning.

Exam Date: April 2, 2026

Time Needed: About 2.5 hours (exact time TBD)

Before the exam, you’ll need to come in for a quick screening appointment to see if you qualify for the exam requirements.

Normally the clinic fee is $25, which includes:

• Oral examination

• X-rays (if needed)

• Dental cleaning

• Fluoride treatment (optional)

I will cover the $25 fee and also compensate you for your time if you qualify as a thank you for helping me out.

This is a huge part of completing my dental hygiene licensing requirements, and I would be extremely grateful for the help!

If you think you might qualify, please comment or send me a DM.

Thank you so much!

I used to live in HI but returned to MN when I was 5 yrs old. I'm currently considering transferring to UMN for a BS in IT after finishing CC (about 1-2 more years), but I've recently started considering UH Manoa for a few reasons:

1. I'm half Polynesian and might qualify for some scholarships related to that (i dont have any experience with scholarships though so i have no clue how much money i would even receive from scholarships alone)

2. i want to connect to my culture and make friends. i know this one might sound a bit silly because I can make friends anywhere, but I know that Hawaii would offer Pacific Islander communities, clubs, and activities, which I don't rly have much of in MN. i also think it would be cool to make friends with similar backgrounds to me but its not needed ofc. idk if that makes sense but basically im just saying that im white-washed and i have no friends LMAO

3. Money isn't really a huge issue for me right now but i definitely want to avoid going into student debt as much as possible, since i'm by no means a super wealthy person i just happen to have savings for school (around $35k for reference)

4. I would learn about living independently/away from home

5. I've heard that Manoa is actually really safe which is important to me bc i get easily anxious about safety. idk how accurate that is though

I know that UH Manoa is a good university, but in terms of overall quality or accreditation, I don't think it's necessarily much better or worse than UMN. Outside of studying, I'd mainly be attending UH to learn new life skills, connect with Polynesian friends, and deepen my knowledge about my culture. So, are these valid reasons to choose UH over UMN, even if my main motivations are personal growth, cultural connection, and life experience rather than academics alone? Is the university and city as safe as I hear it is? How much money might I realistically receive from scholarships as a non-traditional student without a highly competitive transcript?

My friends and I, all juniors in college, are flying to Hawaii for spring break. I heard University of Hawaii was really fun, and I was wondering if any social events or things were happening this week? We don't know anyone here, so we'd love to meet new people in the meantime, if possible!
