im in a friend groupe with two other guys, lets call them John and Max (fake names) me and John both absolutely love Undertale and talk about it with eachother quite frequently. Max had never played, but had seen some gameplay and heard us talk about it sometimes and got intruiged.
when undertale went on sale a few days ago, he bought it and played it for the first time. both me and John insisted that we wouldnt tell him anything and dont give him any instructions unless he was genuienly confused and asked for a small hint himself.
my issue is, is that the moment he started playing, he skipped every single interaction. im not exaggirating, he skipped the intro cutscene, pretty much all of toriels dialog and didnt talk to a single person. that in itself isnt particularly wrong, everyone can play the way they want to, but he just finished and texted me something along the lines of
"i dont get what the hype is all about. it was alright i guess, but it was kinda boring and i still dont get why i was there in the first place"
this genuienly annoyed me. i dont expect him to interact with every single echo flower, sign or nps, but just read the required dialog befre complaining he doesnt understand the story?? i get that undertale isnt for everyone, but i feel that, if he had just given it a chance, he would have liked it.
now im wondering how to tell him this without sounding like the steriotypical undertale fan dictating how every new player should play the game. he knows theres different routes, and i kind of want to encourage him to play the pacifist route, and actually pay attention this time, but i dont know how to it without sounding stuck up.
what do you think? is my annoyance even justified here?
