Hi everyone. Im a freshman at UNT dealing with my first academic integrity violation, and I’m honestly terrified about what might happen.
I recently took an exam at the where Excel was allowed as a calculator, but notes weren’t permitted. I had a spreadsheet I downloaded with like some formulas to remember and notes while studying. During the exam, when I opened it the staff noticed cus they said they could see the screen from another computer. When confronted, I panicked and said I’d typed the formulas myself during like the test, which wasn’t fully true. The testing center reported the incident to my professor, and I’m meeting with her later this week.
I know what I did was wrong, and I’m not trying to justify it. I’ve been struggling in this class despite studying extensively, and I’m worried about how a zero or an F would affect my GPA and plans to transfer universities. I have never cheated before in my life, not even highschool so idk what to expect.
So like for anyone who’s dealt with an academic integrity violation at UNT What penalty did you receive for a first offense? What happened when talking to your teacher
Does it make sense to and ask for a warning or leniency despite what happened? If I get a zero , would I still be allowed to withdraw from the course before the deadline? Any advice from someone who’s experienced this and gone through the process would help
