Hi everyone,

I have just purchased a proof set as a christmas present for my son.

Upon its arrival I noticed what appears to be damage to the outside of the display case, which is plastic. It looks as if its been levered open but maybe its just cast marks from manufacture?

The coins inside do seem to have slight dust on them and one portrait of charles has a streak of something and another has a dot. I cant tell if they are damaged or if its something else.

The copper coins also have odd toning. A band of darker colour surrounds the coin but only on the non portrait side.

The above could be entirely normal, but as someone who has never bought coins before, I am not sure. I didnt want to bother the seller over nothing.

Can anyone help me?

Hi, I'm terrible at grading coins so I'm just wondering people's thoughts on what sort of grade this Florin would be likely to get if I sent it off to be graded?

It has some dark toning but I can't really see any wear or scratches. I'm thinking of getting some of my coins graded because I'm putting together a coin display room and I got a wall-mounted slab holder but I don't have enough slabbed coins to fill it yet

If people can give me their opinion on what sort of grade this would get, that would be great. I forgot to take a pic of the reverse so I've taken one after adding the coin to a cardboard sleeve. The reverse is the same colour as the obverse, it just looks different since the photo was taken when it was in a cardboard flips and in different lighting

I'm also wondering what sort of value an 1887 Florin with this sort of quality would be worth? Not selling it, just curious as to whether I got a good deal or not.

The Queen Elizabeth ll sets were a limited edition only 500 of each book being produced.

Was given these and I don’t know a whole lot about grading, would these fall under ‘ef’ or ‘au’? I get the impression that they’ve been cleaned somehow but there aren’t any areas of residual dirt so I’m not sure.
Also interested in what these might fetch if I decide to let them go. Thanks.

I thought it was a fake at first (it still might be!), until I saw the faintest detail on the reverse, it also checks out as sterling silver

I get this group is more for coins but I’m getting into collecting old notes and I just wanted to see how you guys store your notes and where you’re getting your storage items from. As I want to see the best way to prevent things like yellowing and fading. I’ve seen things about ensuring you don’t use pvc sleeves or keep them standing up things like that.

And was thrilled to see that they actually used real coins (shillings) for this scene right at the beginning! (A bit less sure on the middle one, but looks close enough if not).

Still - an unbelievable amount of money to dock your boat for a day, in 1700 a days wage was about a shilling for most people!

The King Charles coins I’ve found in circulation so far I rarely use cash so when I do come across coins I always keep an eye out for any ‘special’ coins or in this case King Charles coins.

Are these spoons made using genuine Maltese 1776 Emmanuel De Rohan coins? Have you seen anything like this before?
