the app password reset screen has been bugged for weeks and keeps throwing that error.. if you do it on a desktop browser in incognito mode with adblockers disabled, it usually lets you change it without crashing

If you are getting this error inside the mobile app, the issue is almost always a broken app session or cache:

  1. Open a browser on your phone or computer

  2. Open a New Incognito/Private Window

  3. Go to x.com and log in

  4. Go to Settings and privacy > Your account > Change your password

If normal password changes still trigger the error, force X to reset your credential tokens from the outside:

  1. Log out of your account (or open an Incognito window)

  2. Go to the X Password Reset Page

  3. Enter your username, email, or phone number

  4. Follow the email/SMS link to create a new password (this bypasses the internal app settings menu where the error usually occurs)

If you prefer to stay in the app, clear out the broken session data. On Android:

  1. Close X

  2. Long-press the X icon on your home screen or app drawer and tap App info

  3. Tap Storage & cache > Clear Cache, then Clear Storage

  4. Reopen X and try again

On iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage

  2. Scroll down and tap X

  3. Tap Delete App (this clears all corrupted cache, whereas offloading keeps it)

  4. Reinstall X from the App Store and log back in

P.S. VPNs or aggressive privacy extensions often block X’s background security scripts during password updates. Turn them off temporarily. If you tried changing your password multiple times in a short window, X’s rate-limiting systems can flag the account and respond with a vague "Internal error"
