I'm a shuttle driver for my company and I take a lot of trucks to/from the dealership/body shop.
It is literal hell when I go to pick up a finished truck and I smell the stench and immediately get attacked by hoards of gnats (and full sized flies if its been O/S long enough). I HAVE TO DRIVE THAT FUCKING THING BACK TO THE TERMINAL NO MATTER HOW FAR IT IS!!!! It is the most disgusting shit I have to do when I come across one of them. It's always the fridge. The food wasn't removed. The dealer shut off the APU. And now the freezer melted, dumped all that water onto the food in there, and accelerated the rot. Now there is a biosphere in the truck and the walls of the inside of that fridge are covered in disco rice from top to bottom.
Please, PLEASE, for the sake of whoever has to handle that truck while it's out of your hands, GET ALL THE FUCKING FOOD OUT OF THE FRIDGE BEFORE IT GOES!!! Transfer it to your loaner truck, throw it out, I don't care. Just get rid of it before it goes.

Someone managed to flip their truck in such a way they completely blocked the interstate. I’ve been stuck here for over an hour and a half.

My co driver grabbed all his shit and left. We were in the middle of a load. Will this be considered abondoning equipment for him on his DAC? Just curious.

Driver here, 22 years in, LTL now. For the last couple years I've been working on something called Trucker Tote. The mission is pretty simple: make our workspace actually fit life on the road.
The cab is our office, kitchen and bedroom, and most of it wasn't designed with how we really work in mind. Stuff slides, falls, ends up on the floor, or goes missing right when you need it.
A buddy of mine, David, sent me this video of his cab. He's 6'4", seat jacked up so he can see out, and everything he needs ends up on the floor where he has to dig for it.
So I want to hear from you:
What drives you nuts about your cab setup?
Ever had something go flying when you hit a pothole or had to brake hard? What happened?
Ever been stuck on the side of the road because a tool or zip tie wasn't where you thought it was?
Drop a story or a short video in the comments. Please only film while you're parked. No company names needed.
I read every reply. This stuff shapes what we build.

Tested out and got keys to my truck. Didn’t even make it out the terminal lot before I had to return it for a mechanical problem. Waited a day for them to try to fix only to be told you’ll get another truck because that one will be in the shop for a while. I get a new truck number and go to check it out only to be told that one is also in the shop. And it’ll be a while before it’s fixed. Officially been 24 hours waiting on my second truck to get out of their shop and they’re still saying it’s gonna be a hot minute before it’s ready to leave. They hire all these drivers and know well over a month in advance when and where they will be sending them to get their keys and yet they still have a bunch of people waiting days just to get a running truck? Absolute junk. Another guy in my test out class also had to return his truck before hitting the road 1 hour after he got his keys because his truck took a dump in the lot.

QUESTION ANSWERED: Thanks to all for the information, the suggestions, and the humor! This helps me a lot.
I am about to have to get off work, grab a few hours sleep, drive a long day (12 hours), attend a wedding, not even stay for the reception, but start back, drive a few hours, rest a little while and finish and be back to work...
Anyway, the question is, since I don't have time or need for a hotel room, I know there are showers at truck stops. Is is allowed or inappropriate for a car driver to use one of these showers?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Last week I rode my motorcycle from Ontario, Oregon to Hillsboro. I made the return trip yesterday. The weather when I went was cold but not wet. I didn’t plan well, and on the return today, ended up going thru some serious weather. I was 20 miles from home and got stuck in a miles long backup from an overturned truck. We were in line for over an hour and a half and I was absolutely freezing my jubblies off. I had danced, jumped, walked, and done everything else I could to keep myself warm but was losing steam and hope.
Then this absolute legend of a man gets out of his truck next to me and offers me a cup of hot, fresh tea. Ladies and gentleman, I have never been so grateful in all my days. He stood and chatted with me about his days as a driver and experiences he had, and kept me preoccupied from the growing cold. Right about the time my tea was gone, he told me “You should just slow roll down the emergency lane. You’ll get out of here faster, or at least get to the front of the line and get out first when they finally fix this mess.”
I did just that, rolling at 15 mph or less up the hill, down the other side, up the next and down again…the line in front of us was well over two miles long. As I rolled over the next hill, I saw that they were letting rigs thru one at a time around an overturned truck in the road. We were still probably 2-3 hours minimum from getting out of I hadn’t moved.
I never got your name, bro, or even your company. I was so frazzled from my day I could hardly think straight. When I got home it took me 45 minutes to be able to talk normal. Thank you a million times for the cup, and conversation that kept me going. Thanks for the insight to send me on the way home. You absolutely saved my ass. I promise I’ll plan better next time! Haha
You truckers are something else, and I for one, am beyond grateful. Keep rollin!!

Just got stopped for the day getting ready to bed down and another truck pulls up in the spot next to mine. His sneeze valve is blowing every two seconds. I would never subject another driver to that maddening noise.

If you're not feeling comfortable about your rig or your load, maybe choose a different path.
Not sure if they're doing training or refresher courses for the DOT and FHP

Stephen approved. And as everyone knows, he is very finicky when it comes to food. LOL
if anyone has any questions but feel free to ask. I found this real cane sugar cola at Walmart for cheap and I think it works perfect.

They said their system has been down since 10am tuesday......
They have no idea what's on the train, or if it is even coming at all.
Yay technology!

I was in school for a month attending every day, Monday through Friday, and I earned my manual endorsement with the help of the WIOA program. My school was paid for in full.
When my class started, we had a lot of people attending from previous classes who could not pass the road or skills tests, and even some who could not pass the pre-trip. I took this course seriously and passed all my required tests in one day—a true one-and-done.
I learned that what is next will teach me far more. Whoever I sign on with will propel me forward into the real world. I am looking at all the mega carriers, but what I care about is top training and safety. I am in the Southwest, NV. Are there any companies you would recommend? I met with a couple of recruiters at our academy, such as Schneider and May. I would not mind hauling materials with pneumatic pumps for construction. I almost never see those jobs. I am interested in local or regional, if I have to. Any tips would be great.

Had one of those days where I was already tired of coffee before lunch even hit. Grabbed my stanley in the morning and tossed some snacks and Neuro gum. What everyone else keeps within arms reach in the cab for those long days. Any snacks or drinks you swear by? Obviously pulling over for sleep comes first when you're tired.

I’ve been trying to file my 3rd Quarter IFTA return on the new NJ mCarrier portal. I originally "completed" it during the first week, but the system flagged it with a message saying "Your return needs to be reviewed."
I tried reaching MCS customer service multiple times by email and sat on hold for almost 2 hours waiting for an agent. Yesterday, a rep finally called me back and said I needed to round up all state miles to whole numbers (no decimals, no commas). They unlocked the return so I could edit it.
I re-entered all the numbers rounded off correctly, but right before the final page, it hit me with "1182 - WARNING: JURISDICTIONS DISTANCE REQUIRES REVIEW."
I went back through and submitted it again, but on the final confirmation screen, it STILL says "Your return needs revision."
The crazy part is I don't even owe anything—I actually have a credit, so my balance is $0 (and total tax due was under $50 to begin with).
Something similar happened last year, but back then customer service answered in 20–30 minutes and resolved it quickly. With this new website setup, it feels like an endless loop. Has anyone run into this specific warning on the new mCarrier system, and did you find a way to clear it without waiting hours on the phone again?

First and foremost, yes, I fucked up. I know I fucked up. Telling me I fucked up is not helpful, I am aware and am dealing with the fallout already.
I was in the zone, jamming to the radio and didn’t realize the speed limit dropped quite substantially. I got LiDARed right after the drop, 70 in a 55. Officer gave me a ticket as well as inspection. Hired an attorney, they say it more than likely won’t stick and then I can fight through DataQs. No, it wasn’t a cheap “speeding ticket lawyer”. Still waiting on a date - just spoke with them again said we should hear back this week, it’s currently being reviewed by the Centralized Infractions Bureau.
The issue at hand: I’m on a small fleet under a leasing agency. The leasing agency dropped me. The small fleet has two sides and the other side runs under a separate leasing agency. They won’t pick me up until the ticket is resolved.
I’ve been sitting for two weeks and this coming pay will be my first payday with no check. I can’t sit and wait with no income.
Anybody have any ideas of half decent companies that don’t have ridiculously low pay and at least mediocre equipment? I run hard, have never been late on pickup or delivery. I take care of the truck I’m in. I don’t turn down loads. Flatbed, stepdeck, double drop, OS/OD, fuel, oil and doubles experience. I do unfortunately have an auto restriction. Fresh med card. TWIC. Fully endorsed. Nothing else on my MVR in over 3 years as most companies require. It’s been almost 10 years since anything on my MVR. Last ticket was because my phone wouldn’t load my new insurance card so I got an operating without proof of insurance in my personal vehicle.
Any help would be appreciated. I’ve applied to several companies, just thought I’d ask here in case someone knows of companies I haven’t came across yet.
Thanks.
