I was in Mexico tonight and decided to go slightly too fast and record the good old engine noise of a 1979 Honda goldwing revving up to 7 grand under load. I think I hit about 60 in second gear which was the second run.

Selfies :3 Helmet confidence
So I'm not out, but I really enjoying the anonymity of the helmet. I can vibe to my music, and walk around comfortable. I dont worry about some seeing me being feminine. Because no one can see who I am. Maybe that sounds silly, but does anyone else feel that way?

God said "May there be light", Honda responded "Best I can do is candle" So I took upon myself to do things proper
TLDR : Factory headlight suck so I fitted a LED kit to my CBF600 to see something at night, here's the result.
Prologue : Why is the night so dark? Why is my headlight so dim? Why won't I just do what a normal person would and drive my car to work?
Hello, I'm back with my CBF 600. Now that winter is coming, my morning commute is done before sunrise, and until now I had to make do with that cheap flashlight Honda thought would be a perfectly adequate headlight for my motorcycle.
I sure they meant well, but 20 years later, that headlight performance is lackluster to say the least. It's dim, with dark spots perfectly placed so I can't see debris or potholes on the next corner and when you ad rain to the equation, a literal flashlight taped to the fender would be an improvement.
On town it's ok, but I have to drive through the woods to get to work, and the ability to see branches and derbies ahead is somewhat important for me to not crash, so if I want to keep riding to work, I had to do something to improve on the factory setup.
When I first purchased the bike last February, it came with a set of LED spotlights, a switch and other miscellaneous accessories of dubious quality (including a top case with half the mounts broken off, a pair of the cheapest bar mitts known to mankind and a set of clearly used heated grips with most of the wiring missing...). Since I already had the lights, I got a fused wiring kit and a mounting kit advertised as "good for 38 to 60mm tubes", since the CBF 600 fork tubes are 40mm it should work just fine.
Episode 1 : Adding extra light to an old motorcycle is an easy job, isn't it?
Armed with the best and cheapest junk the bald oppressor of humanity could same day ship to my mailbox and a toolset from premium shops like Aldi, Action and Lidl, I went to my garage, full of joy and confident that it would be a quick and easy job... Sweet summer child I was back then.
First step, check how to connect the lights to the wiring kit. With no male connectors included, I had to go through my mess to find crimp connectors. With some heat shrink and a copious amount of electric tape for weatherproofing I manage to steadily connect my lights.
Second step, fit the wiring to the bike. I didn't wanted to take off the tank, so sliding everything under it wasn't easy, but I did a good enough job and managed to get the cables roughly where I wanted them to go. Ziptied everything to the factory wiring and made sure nothing got stuck at full lock. All was good, so I just had to ad the mounts, set the lights height, and I'd be good to go.
As I thought, because when test fitting the mount to my fork tubes, I found out that they where way to wide for my bike. With around 5mm of play at the narrowest possible setup, no way I could use them. Because I had already plugged and wired everything else, I couldn't just take everything off, I needed the bike to go to work the next day and I didn't wanted to admit defeat.
Looking at the mounting hardware I had, it dawned to me that I could just use hand the lights from the headlight mount same as how the windshield was attached. Testing revealed that I could slide either the spotlights mounts or the windshield, but not both without damaging the headlight... So off went the wind protection, and on went the spotlights.
After 3 long hours of wrestling with all that mess, I packed everything up, did a quick test to verify that the battery wouldn't discharge with the LED on when running the engine and went back home to order another mounting kit.
Episode 2 : Amazon product descriptions are always accurate and trustworthy right? RIGHT?
Fast forward a couple days later, my bike hasn't caught fire yet so my wiring job seems to be good enough and the new, hopefully fitting, mounting kit has arrived. Once again I go to my garage with my package and my toolbox, and start to test fit the mounting bracket so to make sure everything fit and that I can mount the light the way I initially wanted to...
You see it coming don't you? The smaller mounting kit also doesn't fit... 40mm is more than 38 (shocking I know) so the 20 to 38mm kit I ordered is way too small, the bolts can't clear the tubes of both sides... Kit back in its box I'm left with my half assed mounting job and start to think about ways to salvage the mess I made with whatever's laying around.
Tip : always, ALWAYS keep old bicycle tubes when you replace them. A blowout a couple month ago had left me with a now useless one laying around, and that's what saved me from admitting defeated today.
The supposedly right mounts where too wide, and the wrong ones where the wrong ones. Either I had to stretch the small ones to make them fit and somehow break nothing in the process, or I had to find a way to enlarge my fork tubes enough to the big ones wouldn't move once mounted.
That's where the bicycle tube come to save the day. Cutting two long ropes and wrapping them around the fork tubes gave me enough extra thickness to make the big mounts fit tightly.
Could I have done that the first time? Hasn't that bicycle tube been laying around in my garage when I figured out the mounts where too wide? Why can't I just stop messing with my motorcycle and use my car when it's too dark to ride?
I won't answer any questions without my lawyer.
Now the lights are on, mounted roughly the way I wanted to, everything work, at idle the drain on the battery is minimal, and nonexistent when accelerating.
Pictures in order : First attempt, second attempt, test with the LED off and on and how I rigged up the mounts with the bicycle tube.
