Advice Wanted A lot of regret 4 years later

Post image
• Upvotes

So I had top surgery 4 years ago (I was 18 at the time) Since then I started working through a fuck tonne of trauma that occurred during my childhood through to my teenage years.

About 2 years ago, I started to come to some realisations and wondered if I made the right decision. I started to think maybe it wasn't dysphoria and simply unresolved trauma (I won't get into the details of the trauma). I started questioning my gender identity again (I was non-binary at the time). I now identify differently and I don't mind either they or she pronouns, but especially in the past few months, I have been grieving.

I regret the top surgery, and I'm distraught. I feel as though I'm missing a part of me, and I feel severely distressed. I hate looking at myself in the mirror.

I realise now a reduction would have suited me better, but I didn't even know that was an option!

I've done some research, and i think that a fat transplant would do me well. I dont need absolute knockers, just a small pair that makes me feel more comfortable in my skin.

What I'm wondering :

1) I got top surgery on the NHS. Is the transplant possible to do on the NHS?

2) How will my nipple placement affect a fat transplant. They are uneven and quite high up.

3) Has anyone personally experienced this?

Advice Wanted I know it's probably been asked a million times, but who are the best top surgeons in the USA??

Hey! Top surgery has recently been put on the table for me, and I'm super excited!! The only problem is I'm really overwhelmed by all the choices. This is important, and I really want to choose someone good. I saw some of Garramone's results and they looked good! But he's the only one I've really looked into. And then also I know they're only really going to show images of the super good results, so I'm just hesitant. I guess it doesn't have to be in the US, Canada is also fine! But any guidance/recommendations are very welcome... Thank you!! If you have questions please ask!

Fundraising Asking for help covering logistics costs for top surgery!

gofundme link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-sam-with-top-surgery-travel-and-recovery-costs

hello! I'm sam, and I am physically disabled, neurodivergent, and transmasculine.

i'm beyond overjoyed to share that I've been approved for gender-affirming masculinising surgery (top surgery) for later this year in hull, england, with the team at spire.

unfortunately, i've faced a lot of unexpected and unavoidable costs in my life in general (pet emergencies, ADHD medication titration so I can function without sleeping constantly, and visa costs so I can ensure me and my spouse stay together, meal replacement drinks due to one of my disabilities). due to this I'm in quite a tight financial situation.

I do have funding for the full cost of top surgery. I would deeply, deeply appreciate support with the cost of everything surrounding the surgery:

  • Train travel between Scotland and Hull: £300 for myself and my partner
  • Two weeks' accommodation near the hospital: £800
  • Transport to and from appointments: £100
  • Post-operative medical and hygiene supplies: £100
  • Adaptive equipment for recovery, including a grabber and wedge pillow: £100

I am tremendously grateful for any form of support - shares, comments, and donations all have my deepest gratitude. thank you so much for reading and for any and all help 💖

Advice Wanted Scar care

Hey :)

I’m currently 2 weeks PO, and starting to have a lot of questions about scar care. I did my researches, but there was a lot of things and I’m not sure how I should approach this.

My incisions healed in 4 days, and my surgeon gave me scar cream to apply 2 times a day. Problem 1, the cream is starting to run out. Problem 2, I still have bandages on my nips, I will have them for 2 more weeks, and they cover 1/3 of each of my scars, so I can’t really apply cream there. I will be able to start scar care fully at this moment, I guess, but right now is the moment to start looking up new things.

I’m interested in silicone strips, but I have no idea how one massages his scars when they’re on. I might use cream too, which I’m accustomed to now, but I like the idea of having a protection on my incisions. I heard people talking about sunscreen, but I don’t really see the need since I’m always wearing a shirt or a hoodie. Even during the summer, I don’t plan on taking it off, so I don’t really understand why it’s a part of everyone’s routine. I’m also wondering if I should do scar care on my nips, and how ?

My nurses are very happy with my results, they say the skin is already supple around the incisions and there’s no adherence. I have pretty flat scars, but the outer ends are sticking out a bit (like dog ears, but I guess it’s normal at 2 weeks PO) but I want to get them flat if I can.

Any other advice is appreciated. I’ve already taken so much vitamin C I might turn orange, and I know the different techniques to massage, but every tip i can learn is good !

Discussion Too soon?

Hi all. About to come up on 6 months on T. My endo and a couple of doctors online (which I know is not the best source of information) said most people should wait to be at least a year on T to get top surgery. Asking you guys' opinions on here, appreciate it:)

it feels INCREDIBLE to get out of the shower and have my towel just on my hips!! 🎉🥳

recovery is going incredibly well! i have full mobility back, besides lifting my arms above shoulder height, and as of a few days ago, i’ve been able to lift a full 4 pint bottle of milk (the only legitimate way for an english person to determine how much they can lift 😂). i’m definitely still nervous of moving too much or lifting any sort of weight but that’s getting better everyday

i’m able to lay on my side now, but i only do that for a few minutes at the time as it can start to feel a bit prickly if i lay for too long

i can’t believe how good my nipple are looking! i thought they’d be scabbed for way longer but they’re looking so close to normal already :D

Advice Wanted Can I take these off?

Just got out of the hospital and don't know if they forgot to take them off or if I'm supposed to leave them on for some reason?

Edit: I kinda knew the answer before I posted but haven't ever had a surgeon forget to take them off, so I wanted to double triple check before calling the hospital and making a fool of myself lmao

Rant/Vent Please still get checked for breast cancer after top surgery

I'm a bit more than a year post op, and found a lump in my breast thinking nothing much of it because of surgery and thinking it might be just scar tissue it took me way longer than it should have to have it checked out. Turns out its cancer, im still quite young and there is no family history, it can happen to anybody. So please please don't be like me top surgery doesn't mean you can't have breast cancer. There is still breast tissue in your chest just like cis men!

Now the odds are not in my favor because im a dumbass... its still very unlikely but if it can help at least one person to not wait if there is doubt Ill be happy.

Anyways advice/rant at the same time because i dont know what else to do.

Has anyone experienced their chest getting smaller after losing weight post-top surgery

I have top surgery scheduled in a few weeks, and I was wondering if anyone has experienced their chest getting smaller after losing weight.
My surgeon doesn’t want to make my chest completely flat because he thinks it would look more natural at my current weight. However, I need to lose weight for health reasons because of diabetes, and my surgeon said that losing weight could make my chest smaller, which is something I’d actually like.
I tried Googling it, but most of what I found said that significant changes to your chest after top surgery are uncommon. So I wanted to hear from people who have actually experienced it

Im just not sure if he is correct or not. Im probably overthinking. Im just really nervous, Ive never had surgery before.

Double Incision Appreciation & lowdown post

Post image

Hi everyone - I see a lot of nervous fellows around here and I just want to let you all know it will be A okay. Here’s a run down of how my surgery went: I quit smoking nicotine for the time being (used a non nicotine vape, just because I am not looking to quit just yet - and then let it die out slowly) Got mine done in portland and the teams there are amazing.

Recovery was quite easy, you lay around for however long it takes for the drains to be removed, yes they are annoying and will be the longest week of your life but the relief when you get them out is beyond satisfying. (feels a little funky though, shoutout to my bros those and goes with sensory issues, think of the relief and let it overwhelm you instead of the feeling) After that it was literally smooth sailing, made sure to clean and do as my care team said to do. Now here is where it gets scary, if you have nipple grafts they will literally look so scary but everything is most likely fine, I had partial nipple graft failure and everything still looks bomb. I also slept on my side when I wasn’t supposed to & ended up okay but make sure it’s actually comfortable and I slept kind of at a slant so I wasn’t fully on my side (helped so much having a big plushy that wouldn’t hurt for my side sleepers out there) I did have a problem with the binder, it was digging into my side and ended up splitting open a part of my incision, but all went well and it recovered nicely. Good luck, I don’t regret it, I feel even better as a person now and doing things like working out, running, camping, working feels less embarrassing and more enjoyable!

I’m almost 4 weeks post op, and I’ve been massaging and moisturising my incisions twice a day everyday for about 2 weeks now. All my scabs have fallen off so I was wondering if I could start applying bio oil and possibly silicon gel?

Scar care

What brands of scar tape and silicone gel are we using and from where? I’m not sure if they’re all just as effective or if specific ones are recommended/have better results. If you can post results of what you’ve used and for how long too that would be amazing <3

Surgical images (NSFW) Nipple pulling up at the edge need advice

Post image

I’m two weeks post op, everything is healing great, the nipples are both attached and healed down at all the edges except right here, it looks like a stitch let loose or something and the fat is bulging out, it’s not infected or anything, I’ve been doing wet healing so my nipples haven’t gotten hard scabs or peeled they’re always soft, I left them dry out during my daily dressing change, my question is should I add more compression to push it down? Or will that just dry up and fall off? I’m not sure how that’s gonna heal exactly or if I can do anything additional to help it close properly, thank you 🙏

Rant/Vent Just got out of the hospital. Surprisingly not as emotional as I thought I'd be.

I thought I'd be crying from euphoria by now but is it weird to feel normal? I'm sure it'll be different once I see my chest bare, but right now I'm surprisingly not having any pain/discomfort that's driving me crazy like I thought it would. My nurse said I handled waking up from anesthesia better than most the people she's seen so I'm hoping that means I'll be able to eat something soon lol.

Rant/Vent Nerve damage

Yesterday i found out i probably have nerve damage on my right side after getting top surgery last may (5months ago).

Had a ‘checkup’ with the doctor that handles my T dose yesterday and she asked me how my topsurgery healing had went and i told her i get this awful stabbing pain on my right side whenever my clothes/blanket or even just finger touches it. I told her i didn’t really know how it happened because im 100% sure i haven’t done anything crazy during healing. It honestly felt like a suture was stabbing me from the inside out or something, despite the pain not being directly near my surgery scars so i was quite scared to start living life normally again these past view months. I basically gained 20+ kgs over the past half a year and all of my joints hurt like hell because i haven’t been working out or picking up life as it was before. Had to change jobs aswell because i kept having to call in sick because of the pain. Anyhow, turns out it’s most likely nerve damage. I’ll have a talk with a ‘professional’ in 2 months and don’t know anything else.

I’m genuinely so upset. My results don’t look good at all but i’m mostly over that because the dysphoria i had is nearly gone. I really hoped i could’ve let go of the past and just live now. Instead im in pain nearly all of the time and it’s probably never going away. I already gave myself nerve damage in my leg last year because of a wrong T injection because my doctor gave me the wrong needles. I waited 3.5 years on a waiting list and after 2 years of people questioning everything about me they gave me access to healthcare, just for everything to be screwed up and me being in pain every single day anyway. i’m 19 now and this has been going on since i was 13.

I don’t know what to do anymore. i don’t regret top surgery at all but im just very upset that despite all my efforts this is what i ended up with. I’ve never heard of nerve damage in this way being a side effect before i got topsurgery so im hoping anyone has had some experience with this and can give me some words of comfort. i feel absolutely terrible. Again i don’t regret getting the surgery at all, just feeling very depressed about this being a complication for me.

Advice Wanted Lollipop surgeons

Hi! Wondering if anyone knows of surgeons who perform “lollipop” top surgery in the greater Boston area.

My parents live in Southern California so also open to options in the SoCal area.

I think I may be borderline on qualifying for peri, so wondering if lollipop might be an option for me. Just haven’t been able to find much info on which surgeons perform this technique

Advice Wanted Little amount of fluid in drains day of/after surgery?

I had about 45-50 ml in each drain when I got out of the hospital, stripped and drained the bulbs and now about 5-6hours later there's significantly less and the color is lighter than when I first emptied them.

Is too little fluid something to worry about or is that a good sign? I haven't seen my chest yet so I can't say if there's a lot of swelling but when I change the gauze tomorrow if anything looks extremely off I'll call the hospital to ask.
