Moderator Post We will not be removing all sexual questions.

We've had a few complaint threads, so it seems to be about that time for one of these reminders. Let me be clear: We are not going to ban all sex related questions.

They are firmly within "TooAfraidtoAsk", and always have been. Sex is a fairly taboo topic in a lot of places, and a lot of people have questions about it. (And as an additional reminder, TATA is not only for controversial questions. Nor do we allow question shaming for "googleable" questions). These are not new changes.

We get that not everyone has the same interest in those topics, but it is a core part of the sub. Currently, there are ~5 out of the top 10 posts being sex related. Earlier today, it was 4. Earlier this week, it was 3. It typically fluctuates between ~3-5, usually averaging closer to 3.

If you have particular suggestions (e.g. things that seem ripe for the FAQ), or questions feel free to post them below. No promises, but we're always open for improvements if they're feasible. For a list of common questions we get on this topic (what do we already moderate, has the sub changed?, can i filter posts myself?) see the first stickied comment.

Politics Politics Megathread

You know the deal, same as the previous megathreads, which were archived.

The rules:

All top level OP must be questions. This is not a soapbox. If you want to rant or vent, please do it elsewhere. Otherwise, the usual sidebar rules apply (in particular: Rule 1:Be Kind and Rule 3:Be Genuine).

The default sorting is by new to make sure new questions get visibility, but you can change the sorting to top if you want to see the most common/popular questions.

Health/Medical Peed dark brown, half an hour later I peed red. How worried should I be?

M25, healthy liver last I had it checked (6 months ago), been on Mounjaro since (idk if relevant). No pain that I can tell. No recent sexual activity. My pee was normal and light yellow the previous time I peed before the brown then red. Please tell me I’m not dying. Is this a “monitor it” or a “run to the er”?

Update 1: thank you all for expressing concern and giving advice. I am seeing a urologist later today, in 5ish hours, that’s the earliest and best I could find at short notice. I will make another update with whatever is happening. Please let me know if you know what I can expect, and if I should brace myself for weeks in the hospital or antibiotics. As much as I am panicking, I am trying to think it’s more likely a UTI or prostate problems than a kidney problem, but we will see.

Update 1.5: the plot thickens, I peed once more before heading out to my appointment and the pee was significantly lighter in color, while still having evidence of blood. It was a sort of transparent pink-brown. Hoping thats a sign that I don’t have minutes to live, and I’m really really hoping for okay news from the doctor. Thank you all again, see you in a few hours when I’m hopefully home and not hospitalized and splayed on some table.

Update 2: just left the urologist’s office. He echography-ed by bladder and kidneys, did one of those spycam things through my urethra to inspect my bladder and concluded that my bladder is fine and that my kidneys seem fine but he requires a CT scan in case he’s missing stones in the kidney tubes. He told me that after I get my CT done he’ll give me a call and tell me what it’s looking like. He has all but ruled out anything but kidney stones or a UTI. He said I’m young and that the situation isnt that grim, but I’m frustrated at the mystery of it all. Guess there will have to be a part 3

Body Image/Self-Esteem At what point does dieting become an eating disorder?

I need to ask this because there have now been multiple people in my life telling me that my relationship with food is concerning. In particular a girl I was seeing in the summer with a history of serious disordered eating said that she thought that I had one and a lot of my actions were (unintentionally) really triggering for her. I didn’t understand what she meant at the time but I'm starting to think she might have been right.

For context, I weigh and track every calorie and macro that I eat. I workout basically every day, I track my steps, I weigh myself every morning. I've had a large fitness transformation in the last 9 months as a result of a lot of these actions.

Then I got a dexa scan a couple weeks ago and it read 19% (I am a man). I was disgusted, but more than that I was furious. I was so angry for trying so hard to be lean and failing. Even though, I must've been around 35% body fat when I started dieting, so to someone on the outside it should've been a win.

Once I got home I told myself I would no longer eat another single ounce of "fun food". I cut out all alcohol (probably the only good thing to come of this) and anything with calories I didn’t deem absolutely necessary. I did take a semi moderate dose of a strong glp-1 drug, when I got home I doubled the dose. I don't feel hungry anymore. And to be honest I am far more excited to take more of that drug than I am to put any more food down my throat.

I'm eating in a very steep deficit now, beacuse the last one I was on stopped working for me and I knew if I wanted to keep getting leaner I had to push it further than I ever have. I've never felt sick from dieting before but I feel like shit all the time now. It's like I have the flu, I'm so tired, I'm really cold, my skin hurts all over, I feel weak. The idea of eating anything that's not a protein shake or a tiny snack makes me want to barf, physically and emotionally.

Right now, I feel like I can't get food out of my head. The process of eating is becoming more and more emotional for me. I feel guilty about every meal now. I had a poutine yesterday cause I was out with my friends, and even though it was practically the only thing I ate the entire day I felt disgusted with myself.

Typing this out makes me want to cry cause I know it's bad but I don't know how this happened and I think I've been in denial for a long time.

The problem is my actions make me look better. I know they do. If you saw a photo of me from 9 months ago compared to now you would probably think I was lying about the timeline, because I look like a completely different person (In a good way, I am more muscular as well as having lost a lot of fat). I'm smart enough to force myself to eat just enough that I don't lose much muscle and it's the fat that's leaving cause that's the whole point. And I feel like people like me more when I look good. And I like me more when I look good. And I need to look better, cause where I'm at right now isn't acceptable to me. Even if other people tell me I am looking good, it’s not enough.

I don't know how to start the process of feeling better about food. I want to have a healthy relationship with food. I want to be able to enjoy a fucking poutine with my friends without feeling like a fat disgusting pig. I don't know who to tell this to and I'm scared of being told I'm overreacting because I don't look like what people picture when they think of somebody with an eating disorder.

If anyone has been through something like this, what was your first step, and what helped you?

Other 40 year old married male and my wife is just mean. What can I do to have her appreciate me?

I’ve been married for 20 years, and over time my wife has slowly wanted to make every decision in our household. Including with the kids and every activity in our life. She is only happy if I agree with everything she wants to do. Sex only happens when it’s a special occasion and when she wants. We both work full time, but I pay for everything, cars, house, vacations and take care of the kids. . I don’t see a dime of her money since, she has her own account. She claims that she is always right and I’m always wrong. I feel like she has completely neutered me. I’m not sure what to do. We have tried counseling and the therapist thinks it’s only going to get worse for me. I take care of myself, her and the family and get zero appreciation. Anyone else been in this situation that was able to turn things around?

Love & Dating How can I (14M) comfort my gf (14F) whilst she’s on her period?

A few weeks ago I FINALLY asked her out and she said yes 🥹🥹. I’m so so happy I love her so much and i want to make sure I’m there for her when I can and I’m able to help her if she wants it. However- I don’t know what girls feel like and want on their period!! Today, she was complaining to me today that her lower stomach was aching and told me she thinks she’s due for her period. I’m not sure like what exactly I can do to help make her feel better, do I leave her be in case she doesn’t feel well to talk and doesn’t want to be around anyone or do I stay close to her and just be there in the hopes that my presence is comforting?? I know it sounds stupid and that I’m over exaggerating this but i just want to do the most I can!!

Mental Health Why are there so many Africans/Jamaicans/Caribbeans in the mental health world?

• Upvotes

Firstly I’m not trying to make any negative implications by asking this, I’ve just been to a slew of mental health professionals recently (insurance is a bitch) and I’ve noticed the majority of the people I’m meeting with are from these backgrounds and most are not American. As I understand it, and by their own admission, their culture is not very big on mental health. So if this is your experience, or if you are one of these mental health professionals I’d like to know why you think there may be an influx of this background represented in the mental health space.

Family I found my mom being unfaithful what should i do?

I recently found my mom is having an affair and is unfaithful to my father. What should I do in this situation. I don’t want my family to be broken this early in life. And this has been affecting me daily thinking about it. Also seeing my mom doing this has made me hate and view her differently.

Other Why do a lot of South Asian groups like Sri Lankans and South Indians have darker skin?

Obviously I know not everyone in these regions are dark skin, on average they tend to be though so Im just curious as to why. People in South India and Sri Lanka are pretty brown- some are even as dark as black people. Meanwhile North India and Pakistan are much lighter. They’re a light tannish-brown color. (Once more, not everyone)

Habits & Lifestyle How am I supposed to live?

Every time I get a "better paying job" gas prices increase, grocery prices increase, everything else goes up, and im back at square one. It seems like no matter how much a struggle and claw to survive, do my best to outsmart the every growing issues of my state and country, it just gets worse. I seriously feel like all I have ever done and all I'll ever do is struggle. It really gets me down sometimes.

Habits & Lifestyle My friend joked that how I sleep is serial killer behavior. Is this really that weird?

I'm single and I live alone. For the last 10 years or so, I've gotten in the habit of just sleeping on top of my covers in basketball shorts and a t-shirt in the summer, and in pajama pants and a hoodie in winter. When I'm not sleeping alone, I do sleep under the covers.

I've honestly never really thought anything about it, but it came up in conversation the other day. My friend jokingly asked me how long I've been a serial killer ad then told me how weird it is.

So I gotta ask, is this really that weird?

Interpersonal Am I a loser, especially for not having any plans for Halloween?

• Upvotes

It’s just that I don’t have any friends and feel like I’m missing out on the usual stuff like costume parties, haunted houses, etc. I’ll just be staying at home like usual. I mean, it is kind of my fault since I’ve never been good with people, yet feel like I’m missing out on stuff.
