100% agree that people celebrating Wemby's elbow were insanely stupid... but at the same time, a malicious action is not just cancelled out because someone else did something worse

12

u/boogiebee13 May 21 '26

Exactly. The “what-aboutism” excuse is used a lot these days to justify things like this

4

u/SpineManipulator May 21 '26

The “what-aboutism” is called a double standard, we aren’t going back too far

1

u/KnowledgeUseful6731 May 21 '26

I’m not excusing what IHart did. I’m calling out the fact that people won’t even follow their own rulebook. There’s no objectivity at all, NBA fans just judge based on who they like and who they don’t like. Their made up narratives and opinions will never change regardless of the circumstance. These same people that think IHart should get suspended are the same people that think Wemby’s elbow wasn’t dirty and that he shouldn’t have even been ejected. Like that’s insane

1

u/No_Total_169 May 21 '26

I understand, I guess I just feel like it's a bad look to constantly deflect to other people's actions when someone is upset about something a Thunder player did. I know plenty of people, including myself, that think both plays were dirty. But I agree with your sentiment.

2

u/OklaJosha May 21 '26

And to be fair, Wemby was ejected that game, he got punished.

0

u/HiImSchnimy May 21 '26

Getting your fingers stuck in someone's hair extensions is malicious? Gtfo of here with that.

u/Thunder-ModTeam May 21 '26

Fuck off back to r/nba

23

u/SufficientBit3153 May 21 '26

Is there even an angle that confirms he pulled his hair? I've only seen one angle of that clip and you never see iHarts hand close. Castle is always flailing his head to get fouls so the jury is out imo

6

u/KnowledgeUseful6731 May 21 '26

He did, but hair pulling is not even close to as bad as elbowing someone in the neck. But of course Ihart is getting more hate rn that Wemby ever will

1

u/OducksFTW May 21 '26

IHART didn't get even a foul call tho. I think thats the point.

It honestly could’ve just gotten tangled and he was trying to get his hand out. As a girl with long hair who played basketball my hair has gotten pulled on accident the same way

13

u/PristineViolet May 21 '26

This right here. They only show his hand in the hair but not how it got there. I have long hair too and it's always getting caught in stuff.

11

u/sir_alvarex May 21 '26

No, youre both wrong. Hart tried to murder him. Your experience with long hair is invalidated by my experience being an idiot online.

5

u/Local-Finance8389 May 21 '26

My high school basketball coach banned us from what he called “dumb ass hairstyles” after one of us got a chunk ripped out. She had a bald spot for a while from it too. We had to pull it back low and then braid it or band it. It could have definitely happened accidentally especially since he’s got it all up on top of his head.

2

u/xXxNightRangerxXx May 21 '26

Hell my fingers get stuck in my long hair as a guy when im just moving it out the way.

7

u/Dhr7468 May 21 '26

Yes, he definitely did it

6

u/VoidFreighter1189 May 21 '26

Yeah man he pulled his hair. It looked pretty intentional. I'm a huge IHart fan but I hated seeing him do that. I guess my copium is having some slim belief it could have been accidental

1

u/Ferovore May 21 '26

You can see all of his fingers curled over in the clip… you don’t need to make a fist to grab something. I can also tell that literally none of you are black assuming that fingers would stuck in dreads like they would in hair lol. We can accept our boy made a mistake here, big ups to the rest of his game though! OKC in 5.

255

u/chef_iblocka May 21 '26

The selective outrage is comical

5

u/deevil_knievel May 21 '26

I never really watched any sports, and OKC is the first team I've ever followed and I've been following since 2011. It's so interesting experiencing going from Westbrook/Durant/Harden to not being that great to being so good were the bad guys. It's been fun though!

78

u/[deleted] May 21 '26

24

u/rapbay42 May 21 '26

Nah Jokic fans are worse lol

7

u/Thunder-ModTeam May 21 '26

r/NBASpurs is that way 👈👈 👋👋

79

u/Strange1130 May 21 '26

he also body slammed caruso in g1 lol. like who cares. its the playoffs everyone is playing physical

18

u/andrewg127 May 21 '26

Its also very possible his hand got stuck in there

16

u/challengedmc18 May 21 '26

It's a pineapple

3

u/youforgotitinmeta May 21 '26

there's a reason most physical body contact heavy professional sport players trend towards hairstyles that aren't easily grabbable.

92

u/Parker_Chess May 21 '26

Wemby tackled Caruso to the ground in game 1 and nobody said a word

60

u/GratuitousCommas May 21 '26

It's even worse than that. r/NBA said that Caruso flopped, and Wemby did nothing wrong.

8

u/Jealous-Caramel7578 May 21 '26

I swear they think that someone trying to take a charge is flopping. I try to not let it get to me but it’s starting to get super annoying because wtf are you even talking about. Then I realize these people do not watch hoops all year long. Because everyone I know who actually watches hoops or plays it does not hate on okc.

4

u/Infinite_Imagination May 21 '26

Reggie Miller as a consistent floor announcer this series doesn't help either. When Wemby ran over just to hit his shoulder into AC to knock him down, Miller was already trying to change the narrative around it saying something like "oh why are they even reviewing this?! It's just a normal foul!" Mike Talarico had to check his ass right there on the spot to get him to stfu. He had to say something like "well it's pretty standard to review these types of plays no matter what time in the game it is."

18

u/WrongConfuscius May 21 '26

Chet STOOD on Wembys FOOT and the sub exploded with hate

7

u/braedog97 May 21 '26

And he only did it because Wemby was cheating and the refs wouldn’t do anything about it, but they’ll never admit it

9

u/Bricejohnson2003 May 21 '26

you think that is bad, Chet step on Wemby's foot. Dort should serve 3 years for that.

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '26

2

u/Thunder-ModTeam May 21 '26

Your team’s sub is that way 👉👈👆👇☝️🫳🤏

17

u/bleepingdba May 21 '26

it wasn't a good play, definitely worth a foul, and seems like a weak move. But yeah, Wemby launching himself at people like a torpedo and pretending it is all innocence and light will grow old fast when someone gets a bad injury. Wemby is like all the great players combined, and also Pat Bev.

19

u/Odd_Plum7863 May 21 '26

r/NBA is so anti-Oklahoma City Thunder it’s insane. Anytime I post a logical take that actually breaks down the play, it gets deleted because people can’t handle anything that goes against the narrative.

Instead of talking basketball, people just throw everyone from Oklahoma under the same umbrella and act like we’re all dumb or racist. It’s honestly pathetic.

5

u/Positive_Narwhal_419 May 21 '26

What’s crazy is they actually justify the elbow. Saying it was a reaction so it’s not dirty

8

u/What-Is-The-Internet May 21 '26

ihart didnt even pull. His hand was in a relaxed state with his fingers curved and it got stuck in bro’s fuckin mop top

4

u/fuglynootnoot May 21 '26

just like shai said. they wont cheer for fouls going our way. and neither their fans. just enjoy the banter guys and take a jab every once in a while

4

u/WaltofWallstreet May 21 '26

Hope they all have the day they deserve lmao

9

u/Beautiful-Abrocoma79 May 21 '26

Le Hair Pull! Next game our fans should make signs celebrating the maneuver! Surely someone has it trademarked by now? Hopeful the broadcast next game makes it feel like a Hallmark redemption story.

9

u/charlesokstate May 21 '26

I’ve never wished baldness on a man until I saw Stephon castle play basketball. All jokes aside this is some fun ass basketball!!!

2

u/nboogie May 21 '26

Also is it just me or where was this glazing from the National Broadcast last year when we were going up against the Nuggets (who had recently won a chip). If I recall correctly the narrative was heavily favoured in like a David v Goliath can the upstart Thunder do it ? But the Nuggets were never villains in that story. Now here we are a year later and it’s a very similar reality but yet the Broadcast cannot stop drooling over how good the Spurs are… it’s actually infuriating.

2

u/candy_lobster May 21 '26

I mean he was ejected from the game for it

2

u/welldun01 May 21 '26

One was an ejection, the other was a no call.

2

u/Plaitkul117 May 21 '26

I mean we can be consistent as a fanbase. I didn’t like the Hart hair pull. Not a fan of that. I’d feel disappointed if that’s essential play for us to win.

200

u/Striking-Medium2360 May 21 '26

Elbowing somebody directly in the neck: "Lmao Wemby is le UFC fighter!"

Grabbing someone's hair: "Hartenstein should be executed"

73

u/tmanx8 May 21 '26

The excuse I see a lot is: “Wemby was frustrated from getting hacked all the time so it’s valid that he elbowed a man in the neck!!!”

62

u/Striking-Medium2360 May 21 '26

The funny thing is that hartenstein literally gets fouled on the play he pulls the hair. I'm not excusing that shit like Spurs fans, but it's absolutely insane how people choose to be angry depending on which player it is.

46

u/VelvetineMilkman May 21 '26

I’m not gonna be this guy outside this sub cause there’s really no point, but imagine what the reaction would’ve been if Shai dove at Wemby’s legs like Wemby did to Shai lol it might’ve burned down the sub. I saw a comment in the game thread saying Wemby shouldn’t do that because he might actually hurt himself diving into someone else lmao

7

u/JpJonesyII May 21 '26

Exactly lol it’s the playoffs. Literally everyone is getting hacked

0

u/[deleted] May 21 '26

14

u/hoopslawyer May 21 '26

Damn dude. Maybe this is an echo chamber but I have watched basketball for 20 years. This play was dirtier than anything Lu Dort has ever done, including the hip check that made Jokic crash out. Just kind of ridiculous to go through this thread and see them making puns and whatnot

7

u/JaderMcDanersStan May 21 '26

Honestly one of the dirtiest moves in years and soo intentional

12

u/muchbro May 21 '26

I know I sound like I’m being dramatic, but Wemby could’ve literally killed Naz.

It doesn’t take much to collapse someone’s trachea and you’re dead within minutes without immediate medical attention.

A cheap shot to the throat is about the dirtiest thing you could do even in a bar fight.

3

u/Dysentery--Gary May 21 '26

I said the same thing to my wife and she said I was an idiot.

8

u/EmuExcellent4963 May 21 '26

Someone tell Dort to sweep the legs 🦵

These guys are fuckin comedians. I can’t wait for people to hate this French Fuck.

2

u/OducksFTW May 21 '26

But IHART didn't even get called for the foul. I think the outrage is not about suspension but rather the blatant no call.

3

u/math0412tj May 21 '26

No one is calling for a suspension. Many are rightly saying it should be a flagrant. Just like the foul you are referring to. Not much hypocrisy.

3

u/JarlieBear May 21 '26

Cut your hair, pineapple man.

1

u/AfroThunder_Dj May 21 '26

They should shave their head in unison again
(obvious /s)

1

u/ImDorian May 21 '26

Not suspensed, but they should def call that.

1

u/No_Construction_7342 May 21 '26

Well. You could have asked for a review if your coach hadn’t used them up in the first half. His first review SH was an error in judgment. Should have kept that one in his pocket. The second review was a good one because he saved Wemby’s third foul.

And as far as suspension goes, if Wemby didn’t get a suspension for trying to to drive his elbow through the skull, I hardly think this rises to that level.

1

u/evd1202 May 21 '26

Wemby was suspended and hartenstein wasn’t even called a foul lol what kinda victim complex do okc fans have??

1

u/-PC-MOPAR-14 May 21 '26

When you got a mop on your head shit can happen!

1

u/itsmicah64 May 21 '26

It was a an entanglement. Everyones against us do they'll use anything to discredit the team

1

u/mikkeldoesstuff May 22 '26

Yeah but Wemby was suspended and should’ve been suspended for longer

1

u/itsabdiel May 27 '26

And was thrown out lol

1

u/According-Dig-4667 May 21 '26

Hart very clearly got his hand caught in his hair and tried to get it out to get to the board.

1

u/flashtone May 21 '26

They even say it in the clip. Its on the front page with 15k idiots upvoting it. like he grabbed it and pulled it lol. Ffs these people frame the narrative and ship ita and everyone dog piles with zero self awareness or crucial thinking.

1

u/Thick_Duck May 21 '26

I honestly don’t even see much from Spurs fans doing this crying. Just other flairs on their bandwagon lol

0

u/pxixiFUN May 21 '26

worst MVP in the history or NBA, not even worthy of being waterboy for spurs

-16

u/Zungad May 21 '26

You shouldn't defend plays like that. Just because Wemby did something like a stray, intentional elbow doesn't mean it's fine for Hartenstein to grab hair like that.

11

u/whiskyfiend May 21 '26

It's about the selective and disproportionate outrage, not really about what iHart did or didn't do.

-1

u/Zungad May 21 '26

Yeah, but OKC is the defending champion and has a very aggressive playstyle that works. Expect the hatred, it's a part of being a fan of a championship contender with success.

1

u/Minimum_Inevitable58 May 21 '26

Harper's face still kills me. Most people don't know he wasn't making that face because of the elbow though, that'd be insane reaction time.
