Emotional experimental music like Not Available?
Not Available seems like an anomaly because it’s so deeply emotional despite its strangeness. Is there anything else quite like it by any other musicians?

The merch table at the 930 club in DC. The keychain was $20 and high quality.
I’ll be posting impressions of the concert, but spoiler alert - it was awesome!!

Statement from The Cryptic Corporation
Even The Residents, who have spent more than five decades navigating the unexpected, occasionally encounter circumstances beyond their control.
Unfortunately, several dates on the upcoming West Coast leg of the Eskimo Live! Tour have been canceled. While the group had every intention of bringing Eskimo to these cities, the universe apparently had other plans.
The performances at San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts on November 21 and Los Angeles' Montalbán on November 27 will proceed as scheduled, and the group looks forward to bringing Eskimo Live! to audiences in both cities.
The Residents sincerely regret the disappointment and appreciate the patience and understanding of everyone who was looking forward to the canceled shows.
Ticket holders for the affected dates should contact their original point of purchase for refund information.

Are probably featured in my favorite Residents albums. Eskimo, The Big Bubble, Freak Show, if Randy is yelping, growling, or making stupid noises, I’m a really happy guy.
Anyone else also love these classic albeit challenging albums? A lot of people do rag on Big Bubble

Hi, I was waiting for a highlight of my life seeing the Eskimo tour next month in San Luis Obispo. The show was nearly sold out, if not sold out.
Today I received a regretful cancelation notice for reasons beyond control of the Cryptic Corporation.
Other shows are also canceling. Does anybody know why?
Thanks to each of you.

I was at the Caverns show last night and have literally no idea what was going on during the Eskimo part of the show. It sounded like wind and banging around, with some primal noises thrown in for fun. It reminded me of those weird little Tom Waits "in between songs" that transition to another song, just a lot more of it haha.
The part after that was over was pretty cool to me, and certainly hope everyone who was there had a great time. Definitely an experience I won't forget!

At the show in Virginia Beach, I noticed during a song with the word shaman, one of the people in the AI visuals is holding a package of Charmin toilet paper. I wonder if this was intentionally to mock the inaccuracy of AI or something.

Singles I bought at the time.
John Peel played Satisfaction on the re-release and when I heard it .... that was it. I was gone.
I bought Third Reich n Roll and it had questionnaire inside. I filled it out and returned it and a couple of months later Santa Dog 78 arrived in the post (envelope pictured). What a great xmas I had that year as my girlfriend bought me Not Available.
The Commercial Single. I could have bought a couple of dozen of these as HMV had a box of them on the counter for 40p each. I bought two and gave one away. Should have bought the lot.

Sorry for sellotape. It's been adhered to the inner sleeve of Fingerprince for aeons - and after a few decades the tape deteriorates. It's probably from 78 and there's no author so I don't know who wrote it. This is probably the most detailed information we got on the band in the UK at the time.

Review by Andy Gill, one of my favourite writers of the era. He was really into The Residents, Chrome etc.
My first girlfriend bought me the OP purple label copy on import for Xmas 1978. It was expensive, I know that. Whatta great gift, even if the pressing was a bit ropey (and withdrawn I believe). It always sounded ok to me.
I've got some more cuttings and ephemera which I'll post in due course. I posted my Duck Stab poster a few weeks ago but my a/c got compromised so I had to start again.

Richard Cook reviews Mark/Tunes. He was a good guy. He went on to edit the Wire, when it was a jazz centered mag. He died aged 50 in 2007.
Edwin Pouncey aka Savage Pencil... ace cartoonist... wrote the Sounds review. Sounds were big on the Residents and covered them extensively back in the 70s and 80s. Funny - his reviews mentions the Warner Bros album and Baby Sex way back in 84. Sav X still dos cartoons and artwork for The Wire.

I bought my dad a ticket for his birthday but he can't go. If anyone wants it, I think i'd just need an email and I can transfer the ticket. I just want someone to be able to use it so price is negotiable; I honestly don't care that much.

Original Meet The Residents for 10 bucks. Yow!!!! Duck Stab T-shirts 5 bucks.
Pic is yellow as the light is dim in here, it's actually white.
I found this in a box of mags n stuff. I also found two Buy Or Die catalogues from 1978.

Eyeball-Museum/Psychofon Records news…
So, finally, an update from us.
You’ve surely been wondering why you haven’t heard much from us lately.
We had to deal with some family matters and other personal issues, which unfortunately forced us to take a longer break than anticipated.
But now we’re back in action, and we are excited to present our latest release—once again in collaboration with the Eyeball-Museum.
One of The Residents' most iconic albums is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year:
*The Third Reich 'N Roll*. Released in 1976, the album stands as one of the most controversial in music history.
Now, exactly 50 years later, author and Residents fan Samuel J. Umland has written a book about it to mark the occasion—a book we would like to introduce to you today.
SAMUEL J. UMLAND – THE RESIDENTS PRESENT – THE THIRD REICH ‘N ROLL – AN ABC X 40
This book offers the first comprehensive discussion of The Residents' *The Third Reich 'N Roll* (1976), one of the strangest, most unsettling records ever made. Situating the album within the political unease of the 1970s and the afterlife of the 1960s counterculture, it employs an innovative method to unpack the music's abrasive editing, its notorious Nazi imagery, and its enduring power to provoke. For fans of experimental music, cultural history, or the outer limits of rock, this book is essential reading.
Samuel J. Umland is a Professor of English at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where he has taught film, literature, and cultural studies for over thirty years. His work explores the intersection of popular culture studies, film criticism, and experimental critical writing. He is the author of *Philip K. Dick: Contemporary Critical Interpretations* (1995), *Donald Cammell: A Life on the Wild Side* (2006), and *The Tim Burton Encyclopedia* (2015), as well as numerous book chapters, articles, and reviews. His latest book, on the science fiction film *The Man Who Fell to Earth* starring David Bowie, was published by Arrow Books in 2018.
Advance sales begin soon. We will, of course, keep you posted.
Stay tuned…

Does anyone know what happened? Hope that everyone is doing well

I got VIP tickets for this last Christmas as a gift but due to delays have not had the show at the front of my mind, & as a result haven’t been able to research the venue much.
To people who have been to (residents) shows like this before, or have been to the music Hall, can you tell me how best to conduct myself for the meet & greet or where to find the basement area that the show will be taking place in? As most of the videos I find online are of the shows themselves, & of more mainstream artists than the residents.
Any & all advice & information on these shows & venues would be really helpful, thank you in advance.

Hey everyone
For those who’ve been to the recent Eskimo tour, are the visuals new?
They look really…. AI. But then again, a lot of their old visuals do
Any thoughts/insight on it? They’re so wildly creative; AI use wouldn’t totally destroy my love for the band, but it would be disappointing
