Hi everyone,
I'm trying to dial in the delay effect for "Thing Thing" by The Smile using my VOX DelayLab.
I read a comment suggesting that the delay time should be set to 5 sixteenth notes with high delay volume (mix) and low feedback to keep the dry signal clean.
Since the DelayLab uses manual millisecond (ms) settings or tap tempo subdivisions, I'm a bit confused on how to properly set "5 sixteenth notes" on this pedal.
Any advice on exact knob settings or tips on how to match this pattern would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

âŠAmazing things happen. All that amazing music made during Covid because they couldnât do concerts or tour. For me personally this music has been an enriching experience.
What are we upto?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
After about three years of practice, Iâm finally getting the hang of this fingerpicking technique by Jonny :)

Wow what a song. Iâm currently listening through the Smileâs discography for the first time. So far itâs been great but âI Quitâ has been my favorite song yet. That bassline is insane, I was in a trance.

He randomly followed me on tik tok and keeps sending me wave stickers. It seems sketchy and donât plan to talk to him unless it really is him

After three completed projects, a live album, a few remixes, and cancelled showsâis that it? Did it just end out of the blue, without so much as a heads-up post? Two years without hitting the stage (at least for this project), and now itâs over. Will we still get to see The Smile live on a new tour, or is it truly finished? Itâs really sad to see another one of Thomâs side projects tossed aside without any explanation.

Eyes and Mouth. Wow! Itâs built on me so much. I start my day listening to it and I love all songs from Cutouts. But this one just gets me going in a very strange way ..

Im lifetime Radiohead fan, and I love the Smile very much. I have all of their three albums but wall of eyes is by far the worst siunding vinyl in my collection. The pressing is terrible, with lots of clicks and pops. The tidal version sounds much better, is much more detailed and cleaner than vinyl.
Huge disappointment

Does anyone know what settings Jonny Greenwood is using for the delay effect in No Words? That music is badass but the delay time is tricky.
Any help appreciated

Inspired by the previous post about Cutouts growing, how would you align the discographies? Not necessarily by comparing the songs, but which albums are "similar" in terms of general feel etc. I'd go with:
ALFAA > Hail to the Thief: diverse, different styles, (too) many songs, lots real highs and real lows.
WoE > Kid A: cohesive, tight, weirdest songs in a way, short, slow grower.
CO > In Rainbows (/Amnesiac): just great songs with different feels to them.
I dunno, just a passing thought...

Hi! I just uploaded a new episode of Record Room about my top 5 rock albums of the 2020s, and I included A Light for Attracting Attention by The Smile.
I talk about why the album feels so alive and restless, how Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and Tom Skinner create something that feels anxious, strange, physical, and still very much its own thing beyond the Radiohead connection.
Sharing it here in case anyone wants to check it out.

I don't know about you, but watching this recent interview with Ed OâBrien talking about how Radiohead members currently view the band and their own work makes me think more The Smile material could be on the horizon (and probably not the same for RH).
I know he mentioned Thom releasing a solo album later this year (still a bit skeptical on that one), but honestly, I don't think Thom, Jonny, or Tom are ready to just close the chapter on The Smile like that. Then again, maybe it's just my wishful thinking. What do you all think?
This is the interview Iâm referring to:

Happy four years and a day to The Smile's debut album A Light For Attracting Attention. What's your favorite track?

Sorry if this has been expressed a billion times, I know itâs not exactly a new album đ. Iâm a Radiohead fan (appreciated all their albums, even the ones regarded as difficult) and Iâm pretty familiar with Thomâs solo work. Iâve frankly kinda always thought they all had a similar sound/vibe (granted, I donât have the most sophisticated earâŠ).
Anyway, now that itâs seemingly extremely unlikely Radiohead is releasing another album (IMO, based on recent comments by Ed and Colin) I was like âI should probably spend more time with The Smileâ. I put on Cutouts because someone somewhere said it was their best (internet is all facts, right?). Also, Iâve def heard a few songs from ALFAA, but I didnât think I had ever played anything from Cutouts.
WOAH đ€Ż. I mean the sound is sooooo different. Itâs refreshing! Iâm weirdly glad for Thom. I mean, I love his existential wallowing as much as the next Radiohead fan, but Iâm happy he seems a little happier here (or at least groovier, I havenât actually looked up all the lyrics) and I like it! Johnny and Tom are a good influence.
That is all. I hope thereâs another album in this vein at some point.

Continues to be the song that gives me all the feels.
I was lucky enough to âfindâ The Smile four years ago and have been a fan since. But this song continues to stand out.

Hi Redditors - does anyone have a (spare) poster they are willing to sell or know where I could get one?!
Thanks in advance.
