OMG this show

I finished this show about a week and a half ago and it is just incredible. Not a single day goes by without me thinking about that finale, especially Nora’s "I’m here."

It’s been a very long time since a show has made me feel this way. It instantly became my favorite series ever. Honestly, the best thing I’ve ever watched on television. It’s mind blowing how deeply you end up empathizing with these characters.

To be completely honest, I don't really know how to move on now. I’ll be working or doing something completely random, and out of nowhere, my mind just drifts back to the show. I have this overwhelming urge to rewatch it immediately, though I know it might be better to wait and experience it again during a different stage of my life (even if I probably won't be able to wait that long).

Did anyone else experience this exact same thing after finishing it? How did you handle the post series depression?

‘Widow’s Bay‘ wants to be ‘The Leftovers’ sooooo bad.

Dark Matter s02e09

The ending of the episode reminded me so much of The Leftovers. It's not just the end-of-the-world plot but the way it's done. And in such a short scene too.

I love this fake-out quest that Patti tells Kevin

It’s like the show knew the formulas that other movies/shows/games would go by. Hilarious and insightful at the same time

The Leftovers On Rewatch

This is a show like no other I've seen. I loved the show so much on the first watch that it became my favorite TV show.

I'm guessing most of you here love this show too. But when you rewatched it, what changed for you?

Did you like the show more, did you realize things you didn't on the first watch or something else? How did the show change for you after rewatch?

Season 2 episode 4 Orange Sticker
I’m on my 4th rewatch and first in a year and a half. I don’t know if I’ve missed something and this was a device given out for Jarden residents. It’s near the end of the episode when Jill returns the pliers to Michael after fixing the sink. I’ve forgotten many things about the show except the best episode of TV ever is only a few episodes away

Music that fits the show or reminds you of it?

I listened to Maggie Rogers - Begging for Rain for the first time not very long after I finished the show a few months ago. (probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite show of all time, behind The Wire and maybe Veronica Mars)

But this song reminds me of the S3 storm storyline and I think it would have fit in perfectly, given the right scene or opening.

Curious what else you guys associate with the show for one reason or another!

Season 2 New Title Sequence

Just got to the first episode of S2 (for the first time). Iris DeMent song in the title sequence is an immediate yes. As an Iowan I have a special place in my heart for her too since she’s lived her for the past few decades.

Meg & Evie - offscreen

It kind of came up recently so I was wondering if someone could give me their best guess at what happened between Meg & Evie offscreen between their first meeting before season 1 and the beginning of season 2. Specifically:

Who reached out to who first?

How did the recruitment of Evie go down?

How hard would it have been to rope in the other girls?

Was Meg genuinely surprised that the Mapleton characters were in Jarden or was that maybe a factor/catalyst for the planning?

Sorry in advance if any of this was addressed or hinted at onscreen, I only watched season 2 (IMO best season) once and am due for a rewatch. I don’t have a super clear recollection of that flashback convo where Meg and Evie met and I just remember it being so vague, not sure if there were any clues in hindsight.

One way Nora’s story could be true

I’ve long been in the camp of people who believe Nora’s story is a fiction she told herself to cope. And came to believe. But thinking on it the other day, I realized there may be a link between what the machine was doing and what Kevin experienced traveling to the purgatory like place.

It’s been established that travel to another world or plane of reality requires drowning.

Is it possible the scientists discovered a way to do this mechanically? To travel to the world of the ones who disappeared? The last thing we see is her about to drown.

I fell in love with this show from the first episode. I know everything has probably been talked about hundreds of times here already.
I’ll just say the cast is amazing, and the show handles its messages perfectly.
Yes there are so many “mysteries” left unsolved but honestly I’m satisfied with most of it. I love how this show doesn’t feel obligated to do standard storytelling tropes, it’s pretty comfortable with leaving plot lines open and making a lot of subjects open to interpretation. And again, I think it did that perfectly all throughout. It’s also one of the most bizzare shows I’ve ever watched which I love so much. And yes the final episode made me cry a bit. And some other episodes lol. Here are my top 5:

  1. I Live Here Now, s2ep10
  2. The Progidal Son Returns, s1ep10
  3. The Most Powerful Man In The World (And His Identical Twin Brother), s3ep7
  4. A Most Powerful Adversary, s2ep7 (so amazing and underrated)
  5. G’Day Melbourne, s3ep4

Help me understand Meg's role in season two

It has been a few weeks since I watched, and I finished season 3 as well so bear with me if I misremember anything. I absolutely loved the entirety of the third season, but season two felt a little weaker, or like the payoff wasn't quite there, and it mostly seemed to revolve around Meg's plotline and her sect of the GR.

  1. Some time after the disappearance, Meg and her fiancé travel to Miracle to talk to the psychic. He tells her exactly what she wants to hear—her mother's last words—but she doesn't like what she hears so she leaves and lies to her husband.

  2. Fast forward to the first time we actually see her in season 2: she rapes Tommy. Her answer, when pressed, was, if I remember correctly, “I was trying to get you pregnant.” We learn she is running the militant, unsanctioned sect of the GR and throwing fake(?) grenades at elementary school kids.

  3. We learn that the three girls who disappeared from Miracle were actually part of the GR, and that it was all a plot to make the citizens of Miracle feel less safe or special. That part tracks for me. Their grand plot culminates in... A fake bomb threat to scare the citizens for approximately 60 minutes.

  4. I believe there was precedent earlier in the season that the gates of Miracle were well guarded and defended by the police, but after the fake bomb threat, WITH the entire police force amassed at the bridge/entry point into Miracle, The GR then casually broke the fence and waltzed in, causing chaos throughout the city.
I'm not here to poo‑poo the finale; I'm here for you all to help me appreciate it more. What went over my head? What should I pay closer attention to in order to appreciate the payoff of S2?

Ok, so last night in watched episode 9 of 13... Spoiler

And it was awful. Jessica Lange was solid as always, but the male actors performance was... lets be kind and say it was lacking. A lot and enough has been said about Joey Pollari and Young Mr Nas is certainly easy on the eyes, but OMG was it also unbeareble. I didnt feel like watching episode 10 afterwards and seriously doubt i will anytime soon.

okay so my wife watched it and said that it doesn't make sense the end

it's all because when we started seeing the show she asked me is it one of those shows that at the end everything is wrapped everything is understood and I said yes because for me it was but for her she didn't understand why it happened why is there any explanation why it happened because otherwise this is just randomized situations
