practical questions Waiting up to 6 months for a municipality appointment in The Hague? A little update on my appointment alert service :)

Hi everyone

A while ago, I shared a small service I built to help people find earlier municipality appointments in The Hague.

I recently came across this article about people reportedly waiting up to 6 months for their first BRP registration appointment in The Hague. That's a really long time, especially when you just moved here and need to get everything sorted!

So I thought I'd share a little update on Appointment Alerts.

Since launching, I have expanded the service to cover 12 appointment types in The Hague, and here is the result so far:

  • 57% managed to book within a week
  • Average time to book: around 9 days
  • Median time to book: 6 days
  • Fastest bookings: just 2 days!

For anyone who hasn't seen my previous posts, Appointment Alerts automatically checks municipality appointment availability and sends you a Telegram notification when a suitable slot becomes available. You can then book it yourself directly through the official municipality website.

Earlier appointments aren't guaranteed, but the idea is to save you from constantly checking the booking website yourself.

If you're currently facing a long wait and hoping to find something sooner, feel free to check it out:

https://appointments.authenticbecome.com/

It's been really encouraging to see something I built to solve a problem actually helping other people too.

As always, I'm happy to hear feedback or suggestions!

I'm in the city, open for meeting new local or international people, I'm a little shy in talking to strangers anyway. Which places would you recommend?

things to do in The Hague Teamuitje?

Mijn team wilt dit jaar een uitje doen met z'n allen, maar we komen voornamelijk op de standaard dingen zoals bowlen 😅

Weet iemand leuke teamuitjes in Den Haag?

We zijn een team van 9 mensen en er zijn 2 collega's die niet heel goed Nederlands spreken, dus een echte escaperoom in het Nederlands is denk ik te lastig.

practical questions Manual physiotherapist

Hello, I live in the Leidschendam/Voorburg area and am looking for a physiotherapist who focuses on shoulder massage and exercises. So far, the one I got to was all about bone cracking and dry needling, which is not what I want. Can anyone please recommend someone verified?

practical questions Help with finding contractor for a few renovations

Hi!

I would like to do some renovations in my flat, namely taking down a wall and install a new kitchen, remodel a small toilet.
My toxic trait is thinking I could do it on my own, but maybe that’s not the best choice.

Do you recommend any good contractor?

Thank you!

other Escalators at Spui

I’ve been living in The Hague for the last 3 month and noticed that every 2-3 weeks the escalators at Spui tram station facing the Library and the Spui Campus are always malfunctioning. Then a week or so comes, they work again, but then they work for a few weeks and brake again. Can someone explain this pattern, I’m really curious lmao

other Hi lovely people, anyone close to Burgemeester van Karnebeeklaan?

There’s a Serbian embassy and I was hoping if anyone is passing by can take a picture if there are people waiting outside-it’s election day and we’re collecting pictures from diaspora queues to vote and demolish regime! No need to show faces or anything close by, this request is not to put anyone in danger or problem, just a collection of pictures of the most important elections for Serbia in the last 80 years 🙏🏼

Dankjewel

housing Need advice

Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice from anyone familiar with Dutch rental law, especially tenancy lawyers or people who have dealt with a similar situation.

Because finding housing in The Netherlands has been so difficult, I’m working with a rental agency that helps me find accommodation. Under their usual arrangement, if they find a property for me and I sign the rental contract, I have to pay them a fee equivalent to one month’s rent.

Recently, I viewed a studio and submitted a signed interest form and rental proposal through an agency. Before submitting it, I received a document stating that if the landlord accepted the offer, it would become legally binding and withdrawing could result in a penalty of 1–3 months’ rent.

The landlord accepted the proposal. However, I haven’t signed the actual rental contract. I have since received another accommodation offer that suits my situation better. When I asked about withdrawing, the agency told me I would have to pay its agency fee plus one month’s rent as a cancellation penalty.

My questions are:

  • Can a rental proposal become legally binding before the formal rental contract is signed?
  • Is a cancellation penalty of this kind enforceable in the Netherlands?
  • Can the agency charge its usual one-month rental fee even though I haven’t signed the rental contract, as well as an additional month’s rent as a penalty?

I would really appreciate any reliable advice

Thank you in advance

meeting people Mensen ontmoeten in Den Haag
