Discussion I don't know why but I can imagine the The Boys as a pirate crew

You know, Butcher as the captain, Hughie as the normal kind-hearted peasant that is new on board, M.M as the right-hand man of Butcher, Frenchie as the canon guy and Kimiko as the girl that lives down in the hull.

And as for Annie, well, to be honest she never really felt as real member of the boys, she was there cause of Hughie but anyways, she would be the Queen from a royal family that decided to ditch that and join the crew.

Season 5 I wish we had seen more of Homelander's America, aesthetically. Like how he changes the country's design to match his image.

Season 5 Serious question. Would you have wanted Soldier Boy to redeem himself like A-Train or just better written as a villain for Season 5?

Season 5 I love this shot. All this Homelander marketing and the real Homelander being exposed on live TV right next to it

I couldn’t think of a more fitting death for Homelander.

Season 4 This scene where he gets mad at Ryan is so vulnerable

One of the best moments from Season 4. You could see that Homelander didn’t even get angry; he could understand how vulnerable he was with Ryan. And sure as hell, Antony acted the hell out of this scene, just like he did every time.

I hope this doesn’t break the subreddit’s rules, but I wanted to post this here regardless. For anyone who doesn’t know who he is, he did the voice of Buster Beaver and he passed away from hypertensive cardiovascular disease.

He may not have been my absolute favorite voice actor, but I have always respected his talent and range. Especially because he seemed like such a positive, energetic guy behind the scenes. Rest in peace.

Season 4 HL's psychological breakdown

After confronting Ryan, when he goes up to the mirror to talk to himself, it’s a clear dig at how far gone he is. Homelander was irredeemable from the start for me, but this was one of the scenes that showed he’s way more than that.

Just like that episode from season 4 where Homelander overhears some guys talking about how expensive it is to erase wrinkles from his face in post-production.

There’s no way he’d actually suck Butcher’s dick right? His pride and ego wouldn’t allow it

Discussion On early season 4, some of the most underrated performances in modern TV are on this show.

I'll start by saying that while I like most performances on the show, a lot of the more caricatural/outlandish ones people really love (Starr, Crawford etc) are kind of really disproportionately talked about compared to some of the really excellent, more grounded non-supe characters. Tomer Capone and Elizabeth Shue specifically are so goddamn good in S1 its insane. Capone especially is fantastically intense in the latter half of the season it sucks to see how he and Fukuhara slowly get shuffled out of relevance and into a really contrived B-plot in S3. And I think in the first season Shue plays so well off Starr's first-season needy and Freudian Homelander that when she dies it feels as though he becomes less complex without that grounding.

And also, Laz Alonso and Dominigue McElligott in general, but especially S2 & 3 are just so fantastic, they are the least comical parts of the show, which is I guess why they aren't talked about as much as the deep or whatever but both bring so much complexity to their characters, they are kind of the glue on either side of the Boys' ensemble that hold all the more ostentatious stuff together.

Just a post to show some appreciation for these tremendous and tremendously underrated performances!

Discussion Does anyone feel the Boys fit a type of story template writers today use? I'm calling it the Modern Anti-Hero story.

Tropes include:

  1. The charismatic and cool yet manipulative bully and dominant personality who often makes a good point and is vindicate. Hypermasculine coded

  2. The protagonist who becomes a passive enabler of said person at best, or becomes their mirror image at worst.

  3. The dangling carrot of championing a more humanistic, intellectual philosophy.

  4. The hero seems like they’ll be more noble and straightforwardly heroic.

  5. A timeskip between seasons and the protagonist seems to have taken a turn for the worse.

  6. A constant debate between emotional connection and compassion being weaknesses or not

  7. It’s hinted emotional connection and compassion are strengths, yet the protagonist spends most of their time behaving otherwise

  8. The protagonist is bailed out of having to make a hard choice to preserve sympathy, but wanted it to happen and would’ve gone through with it otherwise.

  9. The main characters aren’t as cartoonishly depraved as the villain, nor quite as dangerous, yet aren’t “the good guys” exactly.

  10. The heroes have a sort of last minute change of heart towards the end and avoid full blown villain territory, though they did come dangerously close beforehand.

  11. The protagonist partners up with the villain and actually begins to agree with a lot of what they say, or at least half of it.

Think the Boys itself, Walking Dead, Supernatural, the Last of Us, and potentially Fallout, etc.

Imagine if this show had a green lantern. They would be almost as bad as homelander imo. Maybe even just the concept of invoking force fields.

Season 5 Temp V vs Homelander

We saw soldier boy, temp V Hughie and temp V Butcher nearly take down Homelander at Herogasm. What's stopping the government from giving 8 Navy Seals temp V and taking down Homelander overnight? Besides the writing.

Season 5 Crimson Countess/Queen Maeve Parallels Spoiler

It is no unpopular opinion to hate how SB suddenly was head over heels in love with Stormfront, especially when he fantasized about having “rugrats” with Countess, dreamed she would come save him, & hell, Countess was even trying to join the Seven.

“From the start, I hated you.” -Queen Maeve

“I didn’t love you. I hated you.” -Crimson Countess

Even stylistically they have very obvious parallels with the side parted wavy/curly red hair. In a deleted scene Maeve says they split because he couldn’t keep it in his pants. Then later on we see Solider Boy had a habit of cheating on Crimson Countess. Both of them very much had the mindset of main chick = true love.

Both Maeve & Countess even call SB & HL their actual names in order to soothe them until they realize it wouldn’t work & both say to these men what they really thought of them.

Crimson Countess seemed like she would have been a good edition to Vought Rising & they could have done so much parallels to her & Queen Maeve. The SB/HL parallels would have hit hard too.

But no we just NEEDED to have the Girl Meets World Nazi love triangle! Also Gen V was absolutely wasted! I spent all this time being invested in them just for them to go to FUCKING CANADA? Fuck off! Bring back Gen V before even starting Vought Rising istg.

Is The Boys worth rewatching after a mediocre final season? Personally, I’m not so sure. Maybe the first 3 seasons, but when I remember what follows, I just feel unsatisfied overall. What about you?

Discussion Why did Homelander resent Tek Knight

Post image
863 Upvotes

From what we were told, Tek Knight was one of the most popular Vought supes, seemed fairly competent and intelligent (when he wasn't distracted by holes) and was shown as one of Vought's most essential allies. What about Tek Knight made Homelander actively dislike him?
