Planning a potential move
Hi guys! My family is planning a potential move to Tennessee once my husband gets his electrical journeyman’s. He wants to branch into more commercial work. We live in a teeny town of 1500 people in Montana. The cost of living is super high and the job market isn’t great. So we are looking for somewhere more affordable and where we can make a better living. We are looking for towns around population of 20-40k(give or take some) near a bigger hub for my husbands job. Tell me about good areas, places you love or where you live, we also have a young kid if that helps with suggestions. Or things to watch out for, (weather, animals) we have only ever lived in Montana. Any info helps thank you so much!

Not knowing the specifics of your husband’s work, maybe one of the smaller towns around Chattanooga. Weather is usually warmer and milder than those along the center of I40. But quite a few good possibilities along that route also.

Not enough water or road infrastructure for more people. It takes 30 minutes to go 5 miles.

I agree with Cookeville, or Severville, Johnson city (possibly Erwin), Bristol. Avoid At all costs Davidson county and West Tennessee.

I will look into those towns thank you! In your opinion why should I avoid west Tennessee?

Coming from Montana you'll think Tennessee's climate is wonderful from October to April. May to September is way different. You will hate Tennessee summers. Heat waves are horrible.

Tennessee regulates electrical contracting differently from individual journeyman employment.
Learn more about journey man and licensure info by asking TN folks in r/electricians and see this URL:
