Mod 2025 Admissions Megathread

Hello r/SyracuseU! This came up earlier than I thought so I was not prepared (I'm also abroad in France right now so my timezone is different than SU, so it's causing a slight issue.)

The time has finally come for decisions to come out for the Class of 2029 (and Architecture 2030 (that's a real year now).) This is the thread for r/A2C's (Applying to College) Syracuse thread if you want to discuss it more there, but I'm also opening this up as an overall thread for discussion and see if people have questions about Syracuse, admissions, etc.

In terms of events, this link has a list of all the admitted student events, from coming to visit campus to virtual options.

In terms of rules, keep it civil. I know this is a stressful time.

Best of luck and Go Orange!

Mod Direct Twitter/X links autobanned from this sub

Seeing a 70% upvote rate and minimal comments against, I've gone ahead and banned direct Twitter/X links to this sub using an automod feature. To be clear, we rarely get this content to begin with, but we may as well cut it off now. Please default to screenshots instead and link to other sources. For those who are not familiar with the reason for this change, switch your Reddit feed over to 'All' and you'll immediately see the movement-- first, Twitter/X requires an account to view linked tweets, and second, this platform has shifted from one of open sharing to that of a mouthpiece for extremist political agendas and deliberate misinformation.

A note on moderation in general-- this sub has rules that limit/ remove content from most brand new accounts, posts that are particularly spammy, and/or language that is similar to specific troll posts we've had to deal with in the past. If you try to post something that does not get through the filters, please contact the mods directly. Please help us moderate this sub by using reporting features as and when needed.

As a final note-- since many SU students are not from this region, I'd like to use this opportunity and attention on political issues to highlight some history. Central New York has a pretty fascinating history in WWII efforts, including ramped up war production, a massive enlistment in arms forces, and both POW and refugee camps. Here's one quick Syracuse.com article about it: 1944: At the front or at home, the people of Syracuse did their duty on D-Day. Even our local pottery companies joined the effort to build ceramic mines. Syracuse also has a rich history in abolitionist and suffragist movements. If you haven't visited local and regional museums including the Onondaga Historical Association, the George & Rebecca Barnes home, the Harriet May Mills home, the Harriet Tubman Museum, the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum, the Octagon House, the Seward House Museum, the Susan B. Anthony House, or the Skä•noñh Center, I highly recommend branching out from campus and checking them out!

Reality check, please & thanks!

My daughter has an 87% weighted average—a couple of difficult HS years followed by all As in 11th grade (honors / dual-college programs). Skipped the SATs. Strong essay (about said difficult years) and two internships. Is she a strong ED2 candidate for Newhouse, 1st choice, or Maxwell 2nd? Appreciate the insight / tough love here.

Struggling with having friends

Hi guys i was gonna make a burner for this but i thought its better to just see what everyone thinks. I’m a second year on south campus and i have really struggled making any friends. I don’t talk to anyone from first year and as much as i’ve reached out to people, i haven’t made any good connections. I see so many people in these large groups talking about the things they’re doing and it’s so isolating. I just want to talk to people and be apart of the crowd but i’m always by myself. I’ve tried joining clubs but the only friends i’ve made there are all superficial and not really people i relate to. I don’t know what to do. I feel like i’m going to waste my whole college experience while everyone else is living the best times of their lives and the semester is already almost over. I would kill to just hang out with someone right now. I have great conversations with random people but it just never goes anywhere. I want to go to parties to bars to events to trips with friends and i just can’t. I have nobody here. One part of me is just telling me to keep waiting and the other is telling me to get really drunk and invite myself somewhere hoping people might like me better that way but i’m just so lost. Has anyone been in the same position and fixed it? Or am i just fucked

Transferring to Whitman for Finance

Hi, I’m going to apply Early Decision for Syracuse, and I’m applying for Sociology. I really want to do Finance but I feel like the chance of me getting in Whitman is way lower than applying for Sociology.

So I decided that if I get in, I will prepare the transferring for Whitman right away. So I’m going to take as many finance class as possible the first year and prepare to transfer to Whitman and actually take Finance the sophomore year.

Guys please tell me if you are familiar with this situation, or if you know anyone who has done it. Is it possible? Is it hard? Please let me know, I will really appreciate it.

ESF class recommendations

Hello! I’m a high school senior applying to ESF, and I’m trying to decide which major to choose. Has anyone studied Environmental Science or Forest Ecosystem Science? I’d love to hear what the classes are like, whether class sizes are small, and how much hands-on or field learning there is.

I’m also wondering if anyone applied as undecided and how that worked out.

I’m especially interested in weather and thunderstorms. Would Environmental Science be a good major for someone interested in studying weather?

Any advice or information about your experience at ESF would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Discussion Worried about my chances

Hi, never really write on Reddit, but I wanted other people‘s opinions. I’m scared that I might not get into Syracuse. Applied early action to the human development and family sciences program. I didn’t submit test scores. My cumulative GPA is 3.65. (Would be better. I had family stuff going on freshman year.) also my school is extremely competitive and offers many APs, but I never took any.

but I think my real chances are in the fact that I did an interview have attended information sessions multiple times I went to the two week summer college program at Syracuse and also got a letter of wreck from one of the professors. It is 100% the school I wanna go to did I mess up by not going early decision?

(Idk the rules of Reddit if this post is against the rules I will take down right away!)

ED Freakout

Hi! I just applied ED to Syracuse and realized that when I copied and pasted my essay ' <- that character got submitted. I did not see it when I copied and pasted it. Also, I noticed that I spelled a course incorrectly in my common app: current or most recent year courses. They have my transcript.

Will this at all negatively affect me??? Im stressing about these dumb mistakes

Question Stats

I applied early action to SU. I'm freaking out. I have a good hs gpa. 96 unweighted 99 weighted. Pretty decent extra curriculars, went to a tour and an admissions session. 5 ap's 15 credits of college courses. I am applying to arts and sciences in the communication disorders program. Can any current students share their stats. SU is my top choice right now. Just trying to predict my chances of getting in.

Football parking question

First, I apologize if this is in the wrong spot. Anytime I have taken my kids to events at the dome i’m usually able to buy a parking pass for one of the garages or lots close by. I’m taking my son to the football game on November 7 and I was unable to purchase any parking passes other than the sky top lot.
Again, I apologize if this is a dumb question, we don’t go too many events there, but do they have shuttles that run back-and-forth before and after the game or are we just making the long walk?
