I know right. It doesn't make any sense at all. Proton packs help capture ghosts not tuen them to ash.

Right! And proton packs shouldn't be able to do that to ghosts. They help capture not destroy. This comic creator doesn't know anything.

also a bit of an issue, Dusknoir isn't a ghost, they are a ghost type pokemon.
despite what people generally think, ghost type pokemon aren't actually undead, but rather are fully living beings.
in fact, the anime even had the ghost of a ghost type pokemon around in the alola season. (not to mention all the several other actual capital G Ghosts all over the series, be it ghosts of pokemons or humans.)
now, some might be confused "wait, but aren't a handful explicitly dead people" to which the answer is yes. reincarnation exists in the pokemon world, so that's a case of reincarnating into a ghost-like pokemon.

Looks like Grimm's Proton Pack is malfunctioning. He better take it to Ray and Egon for repairs.
