They say “sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from Magic”. But sometimes… it’s just Magic.

My Adventures with Doctor Fate is a journey through the mystical underbelly of the established MAW universe. While Superman faces Earth-based sci-fi threats and Green Lantern explores epic space adventures, Khalid Nassour — a young sorcerer — discovers that ancient magic is very real, hidden just beneath the surface of everyday life. Mentored by the wise Inza and bound to the powerful entity Nabu, Khalid must protect a world that doesn’t even know it’s under threat.

Artist: https://www.instagram.com/danps/

The Players:

Khalid Kent Nassour

A 24-year-old third-year medical student at Columbia University, Khalid is an Egyptian-American from Brooklyn who has dreamed of becoming a doctor since childhood. Raised in a dual-religion household, he built his own outlook around coexistence, mutual respect, and service. Sarcastic and playfully affectionate with his girlfriend Shaya, close to his parents, and prone to avoiding conflict when overwhelmed, he has worn his uncle Kent’s “lucky” Eye of Horus pendant for ten years without knowing that within, it holds the Helmet of Fate and a fragmented Nabu. At the start of the series he is still an ordinary young man balancing school, relationships, and personal hobbies, with no idea his latent magical potential is about to awaken.

Inza Nelson

Khalid’s maternal aunt and the widow of Kent Nelson, Inza is a powerful sorceress of Akkadian descent who once helped her husband master magic as Doctor Fate. She loved Kent deeply but came to despise the way Nabu routinely stripped him of agency, even while accepting that the role itself mattered. At the beginning of Season 1 she is still carrying the weight of that history and of Kent’s death; she has not yet been called back into active mentoring and remains wary of anything connected to the Helmet.

Nabu

At the start of the series Nabu exists only as a fragmented presence inside Khalid’s mind, with no clear memory of his past. He believes he may simply be a secondary personality that has lived silently alongside Khalid for a decade. Condescending, snarky, and eager to take control, he appears in Khalid’s own likeness because he currently lacks a distinct Ba of his own. The audience (and Khalid) do not yet know he is a Lord of Order whose power and identity were deliberately split and sealed ten years earlier.

Shaya Halim

A bright, wry, hard-headed 24-year-old medical student and aspiring neurosurgeon, Shaya has been dating Khalid since undergrad. Second-generation Indian-American and Hindu, she wears a red bindi more as fashion than strict observance and often stays in her scrubs out of practicality. She loves Khalid, shares an affectionate shorthand with him, and at the beginning of the season still has no idea he is about to become Doctor Fate or that a second consciousness lives inside him.

Akila Rashid

Khalid’s childhood friend since age ten, Akila is a devout Muslim who also embraces modern interests and is a talented programmer at TetchTech, hired directly by its CEO, Jervis Tetch. She has carried an unrequited crush on Khalid for a decade and is openly frustrated by his tendency to avoid her when uncomfortable. Politically passionate and quick to protest injustice, she is cordial with his parents, jealous of Shaya, and at the start of the series is simply the close friend who still hopes he might one day see her differently. She is the first to discover Khalid's magical ancestry, being with him when he first becomes Doctor Fate.

Todd Rice Scott

A lean, blue-collar mechanical engineer who works alongside his father Alan Scott at New York City Broadcasting, Todd is Khalid’s college friend and one of the group’s steadiest, kindest members when he is on his medication. Carrying long-standing trust issues and fragile self-worth from a difficult childhood of bullying due to his sexual orientation, he leans toward rehabilitation and second chances but has a darker side which can peak out. At the beginning of Season 1 he is simply a good friend who shares interest in video games and food adventures with Khalid—completely unaware of magic, the Helmet, or the future adventure that will eventually come for him.

Anubis

At the beginning of Season 1, Anubis appears only as a silent, watchful black jackal moving through New York. He observes acts of cruelty and kindness without speaking, lingering near moments of death, judgment, and moral weight. To Khalid and the others he is at first simply an unsettling animal presence tied to the worsening storm and his father, Mohammad’s, crisis. His true nature, motives, and capacity for speech remain hidden until later.

More to come soon :) Civilians, villains, heroes, and more!

Discussion So what's the general consensus on season 3? It seems even those who like it say it's the weakest so far.

Discussion Now look. I'm not mad. I'm just... dumbfounded as to why they would pass this up.

Funnily enough, I liked Eradicator's design in the show. He is so messed up looking, he has some cool designs, and it's a version of Eradicator where he can be his own character and have a more original design unlike the original where he is Superman but with a yellow visor.

HOWEVER... and that's a big bold HOWEVER... I will admit that he could've been better. Not only because the pacing of the second half of S3 harmed his presence and menace (they really need to go beyond 10 episodes for their future seasons), but this design... like why would they pass it up?

Yeah yeah it's more faithful, but I care more about how it looks as a love letter to giant robot anime or any robot anime which is what the My Adventures With Universe (MAWU?) does a lot and will especially do with their upcoming Green Lanterns show. Why would they pass this cool design up? Were they not pleased? Did they need to go in a direction they like more? Lack of time?

All in all, I am not mad about this. Just... sad that we never got this design which is such a beautiful homage to high-paced anime action.

Discussion If there was ever a show that deserved superlative material…

It’s so weird how this show has no merchandise or real promotional material outside of the basic trailers, and probably a poster or two.

This show needs a tie in game, a toy line, incredible movies with gorgeous animation that bomb at the box office a La Batman: Mask of the Phantasm!

They had concept art that seems to imply Eradicator would’ve been a construct of Brainiac in some way, which is a great idea, and the design itself is super cool and modifies the classic Return Eradicator design in a way that perfectly fits this show, and instead we got the worst hairline I’ve ever seen and a character that has nothing to do with the Eradicator.

I did love season 3, but I did not like this Eradicator adaptation at all. (Besides Steve Blum’s incredible performance.)

Discussion Idiot writers really should’ve just gotten Kara and Jimmy together and thats it

Like there was no real reason to just have all that angst and him not taking the easy way and just going for the girl, he likes all because of some bullshit insecurities and then at the end ending friendzoned. They had enough teasing last season. They should’ve just already gotten it over with.

What is going on here? The black superman suit is cool, it makes sense, he’s an evil clone of Superman. What is going on with everything else? The waistcoat, the sleeves that stop at his forearms, the weird hair(line).

It becomes really disappointing when you realize how cool Eradicator‘s comic designs are, or how even his alternate future design in this show!!!

Character Name: Tahn-El (Yes he's siblings with Kara)

Race: Kryptonian

Age: 22

Gender: Male

Height: 1 meter 98 centimeters

Love Interest: Cat Grant (Don't ask why, it just…Is)

His relationship with people around him Kara: Would DIE for her, he would literally eat a plate of Kryptonite if it means saving her

Clark Kent (Kal-el): Isn't really close with him, but he does love him

Lois Lane: Respect's her (Because at one point he teases Lois for being short and other things, which makes Lois punch him in the nose and make him bleed which is REALLY hard considering who he is)

Jimmy Olsan: HATES him because he made Kara sad

Weakness: Puppy Eyes (KARA'S puppy eyes to be spesific)

Strenght level: Stronger than Cyborg Superman (Hank Henshaw)

Clothes he wear's usually: A black armor under a black long coat with black pant's

Eye Color: Dark grayish blue

Hair Color: Brown Hair

Backstory

While Kara and Tahn's father sends her off to space, their mother is sending Tahn off with a diffrent space pod, tears in her eyes. After a few seconds the pod finally set's off and both of them are send into the endless void of space, but Tahn didn't land to a planet similar to Earth like Kal-el, instead he landed into a planet named Hyvkrom which inhabited by the alien species named Hyvkromite's. Hyvkromite's are conqurer's like Kryptonian's but don't have the same strenght as them, Tahn grew up in Hyvkrom and got educated to how to be a Conqurer like them. When he became 18 years old he completly become a Conqurer like them, he made himself willingly go through rough training everyday and even managed to find some Kryptonite and got in contact with a small amount, after he become immune to that amount he raised it a little, after one point he become immune to a handful of Kryptonite that would kill any other Kryptonian in under a minute. But his life wasn't perfect at all, he felt lonely all the time, sure he had people who we're scared of him, he has power over the %70 of the planet's in the Milky Way Galaxy…But he was alone, there wasnt any other Kryptonian. Just him and his lonely empire…One day he had enough and ordered the smartest scientest's from multiple planet's and told them to investigate any sign of Kryptonian in Galaxies, because there was one thing he faintly remembered, his sister, Kara Zor-el. After a few years when he became 22 year's old and because of the weird activites going on in the Earth (Like Jonathan keep appearing in the present alongside with Lara also coming from the past) The scientest's finally manage to find two Kryptonian life form's in Earth, Kal-el (Clark Kent) and Kara Zor-el. Than quickly order's his soldiers to get ready for a long travel plan to Earth, he is so excited that he will finally see his sister but doesnt show it to outside. After two month's (Two month's after the season 3 finale) They finally come in contact with the Earth, Tahn already planned everything in his head, he will come down to Earth, give a speech about wanting to see his sister, find his sister and conquer Earth together (Altough he had no idea Kara is completly the opposite of what he is) After a few more minutes, the ship land's in the most open part of the city. He slowly get's off the ship slightly floating above the ground, after giving a long speech about wanting to see his sister, how he has literally power over their galaxies more than half and how he would also conquer Earth. After all the news channel's show it, Kara and Clark obviously see it and immedaitly fly to where Tahn is, Kara floats in front of him showing she's not scared of him. Tahn slowly floats closer to her and after a few seconds he…Hug's her? Yeah, this guy who's almost two meter's tall, built like a tank and literally can break anyone's back with one hand literally turned into a excited soft guy. After excitedly explaining Kara about his plan she obviously refuses, telling Tahn how Earth is her home now and she's happy. He slightly get's dissapointed and sad at her response he immedaitly straighten's up and slightly harden his additude, he openly say's that this planet has lower life form's than them and saying the two of them can literally take over the planet in the matter of seconds, Kara slightly get's sad at his view on Earth and slightly make puppy eyes (Not on purpose though) After looking at her face for a few seconds, Tahn sigh's and gives her three month time to show him what's so special about this planet since he doesnt want to make Kara sad. After that day Kara, Clark, Lois and Jimmy try to show that Earth is awesome and also obviously go into multiple adventure's

So what do ya'll think?

Discussion One of the more engaging and interesting takes on Brainiac

Post image
66 Upvotes

This show and it's depictions ain't perfect but I love how this show does it's own takes on certain characters such as Bizarro, Mr. Mxyzptlk, Amazo from the tie-in comics, and Silver St. Cloud (who isn't even a Superman character, lol). But amongst them all might have to be Brainiac.

I firmly believe you don't need to be a good adaptation to tell a good story or write good characters (the Mario movies for example where they are good adaptations but have mediocre and forgettable stories), and I especially love how they took certain liberties with Brainiac. He is essentially the AI of Krypton's past, much like the version from STAS. However, this one is less created for statistics and generated answers and more "built for war." He is a cold and calculated yet ironically frightened soul hoping to not be scrapped considering that he used to be a member of the Coluan species who was GLaDOS'd into the ancient Kryptonian's systems. Seeing how his suffering and forced submission would go to waste when the modern Kryptonians decided to back out and provide peace, he lashed out and destroyed them all to save himself. He was basically a slave who didn't want to suffer a worse fate, and thus he killed his captors only to become something like them when he enslaved and reprogrammed Kara about the same way they did. A cycle of trauma and corruption, with some generational trauma on the side.

That is gloriously messed up and a very interesting take on such an iconic Superman villain. Much like Mr. Freeze from BTAS, they wanted to do something different for their character and I love how they did it.

Discussion I hope if we get a season 4 they introduce Batgirl.

Now, I don't think they should introduce Bruce; they can introduce him in a sequel series that focuses on the JL, but I think Kara should get her best friend; she really needs more friends outside of Lois, Clark, and Jimmy Fumblebird.

Discussion Probably one of the best iterations of Bizarro

I love how they did their take on Bizarro. A lot more respectfully too. He doesn't "babble like an idiot" or say caveman speech like "ME AM SAD TO SEE YOU." He actually speaks with limited sentences and words since he was raised in captivity, away from actual human civilization. This explains his more "fish out of water" role despite how hard he tries to fit into society to which he eventually does as a kind ice cream man. I find that way more respectful as a symbol to those who are on the spectrum and wish to be seen through him (and man do I relate to him).

And yeah, I like how he is written where he is a man wanting to do good and try his best since that's how he was raised as a Kryptonian clone. He reminds me of the Iron Giant. He is a gentle yet confused being who was meant to be a weapon but he became something better. That is very nice.

Discussion Since Lois and Superman resemble Casca and Guts in appearance, do you think Batman will resemble Femto?

Thumbnail

If Batman, aka Bruce Wayne, makes a guest appearance in this anime, do you think he will look like Griffith or Femto? Would that make this better?

Is it a coincidence or intentional that Lois Lane and Kal-El resemble Casca and Guts? Are there other references to the Berserk anime?
