Parents with 3 year old stutter

Just wanted some insight from parents who have/had stuttering child. Has speech therapy helped eliminate or decreased the stutter when started this early with family history of stuttering. We have started the lidcombe program and just wanted to see if it works or what approaches worked!

At 3 years old I wouldn't do anything or bring attention to it. I had 2 daughters that stuttered around 3-4 both grew out of it. I on the other hand stuttered for 6 decades and tried every program under the sun but nothing worked. I finally found a program that helped me become fluent.

Hey that’s interesting to know! I stutter my auntie stutters my cousin stutters and it came from my grandmother who stuttered. So when my son started showing signs I took him speech therapy straight away to help him. It’s interesting that you say your daughters grew out of it. He repeats sounds and words like wh wh wh wh wh wheeereeeeeeeeee are we going and becomes out of breath. The word I he will keep saying I I I I I I iii and has started to look away when using these. Based on this and the family history the speechy suggested we can do lidcombe but only praising for 10-15 minutes a day only. I really want to him help him as much as I can.

I was the stuttering child. My parents tried a number of things but nothing worked. It fixed itself growing up. The trick for me was to control the breath and to not get agitated if I got stuck on a particular word. I had the most problems with words that started with hard consonants.

My son had intense speech therapy through childhood for about 13 years and never lost his stutter. He is 21 with a fairly significant stutter, but no one around him even thinks about it.
