Below the Necropolis: https://silame.itch.io/below-the-necropolis

I've been working on a tactical RPG in my free time for the last year or so and it's now available on Itch io.
One interesting particularity with the combat are the resources: time and mana. mana is used exclusively for skills but time is required for both moving and using skills, so positionning matters a lot.
It's a roguelike mostly inspired by Slay the Spire but in which you control a party of 3 characters who each learn new skills and classes after each fight.

The game is playable in browser and there are dowloadable versions for Windows, Linux and macOS. If there's any crash or issues please don't hesitate to tell me so I can quickly fix the problem ^-^

Nine Thrones is an old-school sandbox RPG built around a persistent simulated world.
We’re developing the underlying systems first: characters, factions, relationships, settlements, armies, tactical combat, reputation, recruitment, and a world that can continue changing around the player.
But the goal isn’t to make a game where every road leads to a tactical battle.
You should be able to adventure, take quests, hunt monsters, trade, explore, work for different factions, recruit companions and soldiers, get involved in wars, or eventually become powerful enough to rule territory yourself.
The tactical battles are one layer of that larger RPG rather than the whole game.
Right now we’re polishing the playable demo and continuing to build out those core systems toward Early Access.
Steam: [https://store.steampowered.com/app/5093250/Nine_Thrones/]

I’m the developer, so I’m happy to answer questions about what we’re building or hear criticism from people who play a lot of strategy RPGs.

I'm making a story-focused tactics game where your chosen protagonist determines your battle system

When designing my game, analyzing my favorite tactics games and watching my friends play I noticed that tactics games are easily divided into two types:

a) "Phase-based" games where you move all your little dudes and then the enemy moves theirs (think fire emblem)

b) "Turn-based" games where the turn order is determined by some factor like initiative or speed (Think ff tactics)

Style A favors more defensive play and style B favors offensive. Since my game has 2 protagonists who split off at the start and go on to have nearly completely separate experiences, I decided I wanted to give them different style of battle systems suited to their personalities.

I just finished this trailer for the game. It doesn't showcase the difference in battle styles, but I'm thinking of making a second trailer when I release my demo in the winter

FE: the Divine and Desperate

is an fe8 based hack that offers a vanilla+ gameplay experience of the gba fire emblem engine!

Very lightweight implementation of skills, and skills follow the standard gba skill philosophy of class, not character. Class diversity is big a focus of the early part of the hack, very few units overlap class lines.

I’m the dev, and I’d really like to get feedback about the design philosophy of act 1! Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone! We're Atelier KUSOGE, the publisher of Kingdom Chronicle: Ancient Saga, a strategy RPG being developed by Studio Hakubyousai for Steam.

The game combines army management on a strategic map with hex-based tactical battles, where you command both heroes and the soldiers under them.

The combat is being designed around forming a front line, supporting allies, and concentrating forces to surround and defeat enemies. Our goal is to make positioning and coordination between units the key to victory.

It's still in development. You can see screenshots and wishlist it on Steam:

Hello! Just put up the demo for my SRPG, Ephemera: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5298250/Ephemera_Demo/

This game came about as a result of two things:

  1. I kept thinking "what would I do if I made my own game like Fire Emblem" and "how would I approach larger maps like in FE4"

  2. I wanted to make something that draws from my own culture's fantasy and folklore, instead of the standard European medieval fantasy setting.

And so I landed on this! There's a *lot* of work to still be done, this is my first game to be larger than an RPGMaker game jam submission, but for now, I offer this demo. You can play two of the game's early chapters in the demo- either you dive into the first chapter for a lot of dialogue and more of the story setup, or you go to the third chapter to dive into a bigger playground to experiment with more of the game mechanics (with a lot of the cutscenes omitted or altered for the demo to keep this option gameplay-focused).

There's also a lore codex for players who want to get a better understanding of the setting or if you're confused by any of the terminologies I'm throwing around.

Hope you enjoy! Please let me know of any and all issues, I'll try to fix them ASAP.

Roads Taken (PC, Steam), from a solo developer in Switzerland: a turn-based tactics RPG in the line of Fire Emblem, in HD-2D pixel art, where every seed generates a whole campaign: the story, the countries and their rulers, your companions and every battlefield. Square grid, weapon triangle, terrain, a forecast before every attack, optional permadeath that the story rewrites itself around, and an authored starter story (Wren's) if you'd rather begin with one that isn't generated. The free demo comes out on Tuesday 17 November. Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5412920/Roads_Taken/?utm_source=reddit&utm_campaign=strategyrpg I'm the solo developer (a computational scientist at CERN by day), happy to answer anything here.

Chronicles of Nesis — A classic fantasy RPG, built in the spirit of 90s JRPGs, with the possibilities of modern technology. Grid-based combat, a hand-built world, and the freedom to shape your journey.

Episode One is complete and playable in-browser on desktop or mobile.

I’m starting Episode Two now and would especially value feedback on combat clarity and device/browser compatibility.

Started working on a roguelite tactical game. Don’t have a name for it yet but think it’s cool concept

u/ChroniclesGameDev 20d ago

I've been working on this game for about a year and a half now. The gameplay is a mix of JRPG, strategy RPG, and light loot, plus top down semi-open world exploration.

Here's a image for you.

I'm going to run a small scale playtest on Steam soon, mainly to test the combat. If you like what you see, feel free to follow along. If not, I'm still open to suggestions.

Thanks Chronicles of fantasy heroes

Hey everyone! 👋

I’m a UX Researcher Intern for an indie game studio called GAMUCATEX, and we’re working on developing our first digital game. We’re conducting research on people who play strategy games to help us understand their preferences, behaviors, and engagement regarding the games they play.

If you’d be open to talking with us about the strategy games you play on Steam in a 30-minute interview, please use this Calendly link https://calendly.com/tezz-l-gamucatex/meeting-online  The Interview can be conducted online or in Copenhagen, according to your preference. Please indicate it in the Calendly booking!

Your insights will really help shape how we design our game. Thanks for considering!

Need to know if individuals want to participate online vs in-person, if players use a gaming laptop or desktop PC (this affects whether they need to perform the Steam-app tasks before or during the interview).

What if you could parry your way through an enemy phase in Fire Emblem?

I’m making WaterBadge (working title), a tactical RPG combining Fire Emblem-style positioning and weapon matchups with Expedition 33-inspired timed attacks and parries.

The first public combat demo is playable now: four characters, one skirmish, and an optional guided tutorial. Parries earn an advantage, counters spend Focus, and breaking an enemy creates openings for follow-up attacks.

Play the free browser demo — desktop, no download or account required.

The longer-term direction is a roguelite, but this build focuses on getting the combat right before adding the run structure, rewards, and progression.

The thing I most want strategy players to challenge: does being able to parry make enemy turns more engaging, or does it let you get away with bad positioning too easily? I want the timing mechanics to complement the tactical decisions.

Would love to hear where that balance lands for you or where the tutorial leaves you confused. Comments here are great; no lengthy feedback form needed.

Hey everyone! Wanted to share a look at STAROPHAGE, a turn-based tactical horror game I’m working on.

You lead a recovery team into NEREID, a research station that’s gone silent. Your job is to find the missing crew, recover their research, and get your team out alive.

One of the main mechanics is the alien Seeds. You can influence what they hatch into using light, sound, or a biological link. You get to choose which threat you’re willing to face—but once it hatches, there’s no taking it back.

Your specialists have different ways to handle things, from pushing enemies out of position to controlling station systems or taking control of an alien. How you combine those abilities matters.

Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5256930/STAROPHAGE/

If you have any suggestions, feedback, or ideas you’d like to see in the game, feel free to leave a comment! I’d love to hear what you think.

Survival of the Fittest: Thrones is an early medieval strategy RPG where you build a band and try to keep it alive.

Recruit characters with individual histories, equip and train them, keep them fed and paid, and command them in turn-based tactical battles shaped by terrain, positioning, morale and injuries.

Encounters may also be resolved through negotiation, intimidation, bribery or challenging the enemy leader. As your influence grows, you can establish a castle, expand your forces and wage war against the powers of the realm.

The early browser build is free to play:

Feedback on the tactical combat, party management and overall clarity would be greatly appreciated.

[Indie Game] Silver Blade of Gods' End — A tactical RPG with chain attacks and territory conquest
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2988490/_/

Hi everyone!

I'm one of the two developers behind Silver Blade of Gods' End, a turn-based tactical RPG that we've spent years working on.

The game combines tactical battles with a strategic map where you expand your territory and take on enemy-controlled regions.

A few of its main features:

  • Chain Attack System: Exploit enemy weaknesses to trigger additional actions.

  • Platoon System: Defeat enemy leaders to break their formations.

  • Territory Conquest: Your strategic decisions determine where you advance next.

  • Character Growth: Develop seven classes, change classes, and build platoons with different character combinations.

The game also features multiple story routes and a substantial story-driven campaign.

It's already available on Steam, and there's a free demo if you'd like to try it before buying.

I'd be happy to hear what tactical RPG fans think of the battle systems and strategic map!

Northanda Chronicles: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2068650/Northanda_Chronicles/

My brother and I have been developing a roguelike deckbuilder with the RPG holy trinity as the fundamental core of the deckbuilding. Your Tank, DPS and Support each have their own resources and abilities, but all three build and draw from one shared deck.

It's a bit like building a three-colour deck in Magic: The Gathering. Each role has its own strengths, but you need to make them work together rather than building three separate decks. We've just released our free demo on Steam ahead of Next Fest, and I'd love to hear what fans of SRPGs think!

Hi strategists! I’m the creator of DragonSoul, an unofficial Dragon Ball fan MMORPG with turn-based, grid-based tactical combat.

My starting point was wanting the positioning and character-building decisions I enjoy in Dofus in the Dragon Ball universe. Combat uses Ki management and skills, alongside character progression, exploration, quests and dungeons. The game currently has six races, eighteen specializations and a Heritage system.

It is already playable on desktop in a browser with keyboard and mouse: https://dragonsoul.fr/

Please note that the game is in French and requires an account. Access is free, with an optional Katchin shop offering appearances and consumables. AI tools have been used during development and for some visuals. This is an independent fan project, not an official or affiliated Dragon Ball game.

I’d be interested in feedback from French-speaking tactics players on the clarity of combat choices, positioning and the first fights. Thanks for this monthly showcase thread!

Pokémon: Rivalbound is a noncommercial fan RPG I’m developing, inspired by Final Fantasy Tactics. Battles use an isometric grid, terrain and elevation, move ranges, PP management, guarding, and reserve switches. The clip also shows Mosslight, the town where the story begins.

Gameplay preview: https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedevscreens/comments/1xaa4mo/im_building_a_pok%C3%A9mon_tactical_rpg_inspired_by/

The game is NOT open for playing or public playtesting yet. I’m sharing work in progress, not announcing a release. Follow development screenshots and updates on Discord: https://discord.gg/qtXYk6CuSs

Tale of Specters: Joseon 1592 is available at Steam Next Fest.

The demo covers the campaign from the beginning to Stage 8, lasting approximately 40–50 minutes.

Playable Content:

It features grid-based combat utilizing elevation differences and terrain, allowing for tactical movement through map rotation.

Tactics are possible using Earth, Water, Fire, and Wind elemental strengths and weaknesses, status effects, and turn order.

You can upgrade equipment grades to grant special abilities and attributes, and obtain resources by dismantling items.

You can persuade defeated enemies to join you on the battlefield or use them as sources for class advancement.

This is an alternate history fantasy game set in the Joseon Dynasty of 1592. It is not a game that strictly recreates historical facts; instead, magic, heroes, and real historical figures all play active roles on the same battlefield.

Early Access will launch in November. If you like the demo, one of the best ways to support a one-person game is to add it to your wishlist.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4868180/Tale_of_Specters_Joseon_1592/?utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=nextfest

Feedback, bug reports, balance issues, and more are always welcome on the discussion board or Discord.
