I made a simple, hand-drawn, stop motion of red and blue vortex-like circles on a loop to my electronic, ambient piece. I hope it's ok to post here and I hope you enjoy it. Please let me know what you think :)

Hi! I’m new to stop motion. I have the figures, but I need good flightstands. I’m not looking for the variety that wraps around the figures, I want the kind with 3 mm ports that go up a Transformer’s ass

I'll keep it short. Rarely do movies live up to the hype. But Wildwood shot past all my expectations, I thought it was incredible. (NOT a kids' movie, however. Saw quite a few young kids in the theater.)

As the title says, I can not speak about its technical impressiveness enough. I am certain that the final battle scene in particular will be used as a reference in some university coursework.

The way character animation is traditionally taught is with pose-to-pose, so you can block out the movements, time them, make sure it all looks good, etc. before you fully commit to the shot as it is and do the in-betweens.

Obviously, you can't do this in stop-motion by its very nature, so I've always wondered how SM animators on a professional level time their animation and make it look so good. (I've done SM before but just for fun)

All of Laika's films for example have such natural-feeling movements, all the characters have such believable weight to them, and it impresses me to no end.

Is it just a sense you develop over time?? How do you do it?

EDIT: thanks for the responses y'all, it all makes a lot of sense and i feel enlightened :)

When I was a kid I made a (bad) animation with an iPhone, and I used the wired headphone's volume button to take each frame. This helped prevent the camera from getting jogged between frames.

Modern iPhones don't come with earphones or even an audio jack. Is there some equivalent way to take photos without touching the phone?

Stop motion winders and rigs are the number one tool for animators, but sometimes they are out of tune.

This is a little tutorial with my tips on how to tune your winder and a full description of how it works.

Enjoy it

Ciao ti andrebbe di vedere il mio primo corto in Stop Motion? Ne sarei molto contento, iscrivetevi se vi va ;)

Thought you all might be interested in this short we made around one of our stop motion puppets! We're huge fans of the craft and respect the artists who pour themselves into it! Long live stop-motion animation!

A great scene from the T2 film, remade in lego (and some other props)
