Anyone ever wonder how in star trek 2009 Spock can watch the destruction of Vulcan in real time all the way from delta vega that is at the edge of federation space?

[Opinion] Jamie Rixom (Tachyon Pulse): "Star Trek Doctor is wrong: The war on DEI is what killed Star Trek: SFA, according to Robert Picardo. And it wasn't the fact that it was badly written, badly conceived, had terrible characters in it, and was actually very irritating and not funny."
"There are much bigger problems with this show. And to fair, the fact that Robert Picardo doesn't realize that is a bit of a problem."
JAMIE RIXOM:
"When he was cast as the Doctor once again for SFA, it was the one thing about the show I was actually looking forward to. And watching season 1, I have to admit he wasn't in it enough. I'd have actually liked to see more of the character. We got one episode where they really explored his background, but other than that, they didn't. [...]
https://youtu.be/uZDGm6Xk2Vo?si=JYmZklHcZRHCfCzu
But one of the things he mentions, um, is actually about Star Trek: SFA not really getting a fair crack of the whip, [...]. And Robert Picardo talks about how there is a war against D E I in the United States, diversity, equality, and inclusive and that that basically means there's an attack on Star Trek because that is core to what Star Trek is. Now I'm going to first of all say that one of the problems is [that] a war against Star Trek has got nothing to do with D E I to be honest.
It's got to do with the fact that it's written quite badly. It has nonsensical storylines, massive leaps of logic that often make absolutely no sense. It has characters that often make no bloody sense. And to be honest, it's just badly written and far too often badly conceived and forgets to be Star Trek at all at times.
I think there is a massive problem in the United States at the moment that politically there's a big sledgehammer being thrown at DEI. [...] I don't agree though that Robert Picardo saying there's a war on DEI, so therefore a war on Star Trek. I think it's way more complicated than that. But also, at the end of the day, not all of America or all of Europe is right-wing. A lot of us are centrist or left-wing.
And to be honest, I think the problem is that Star Trek under Kurtzman decided to fight against the MAGA-wearing, um, red hat-wearing people, instead of just focusing on what Star Trek is. And actually, doing stories that might make people that wear a red hat think twice about it. Instead of hitting them in the face, saying you're wrong, they could have just done what they always do in Star Trek. And instead of being very party political, just deal with big issues like freedom, like sexuality, like what it is to be human, like the EMH doctor and Seven of Nine did in Voyager. Big picture stuff, rather than party-political stuff.
I am also just going to throw in there that one of the examples I'm going to have for this is the gay Klingon, which a lot of people that shout w o ke at things got very, very angry about. And to be honest, I got angry about it, but for a different reason. I actually have no problem with it being a gay Klingon. I have no problem with him wearing a skirt. I just don't. What I have a problem with is the way they did it. [...] It was that he was very badly written. He was kind of creepy, and it didn't go anywhere. Which is far too often the argument thrown at Star Trek under Kurtzman. Badly written, badly conceived, doesn't go anywhere.
[Picardo] did point out that lots of series, particularly Star Trek, really, which is his example, takes a couple of seasons to get going. Now, the reason why SFA was canceled was not just because of its terrible ratings and how it really angered a massive portion of the fan base. It was partly because of Alex Kurtzman's contract being up and them wanting to go in a new direction with Star Trek. So, it was kind of doomed anyway.
Even if it had been good, I think it would have been canceled. [...]
Picardo has got a point there that this show - because it's a streaming show - was always going to struggle. I will point out that there are lots of other shows that don't, but Star Trek most definitely has done. Just can't flesh out these characters. It just can't. But yeah, the politics aside there are much bigger problems with Star Trek than a war on DEI or a DEI being unpopular at the moment or unfashionable.
There are much bigger problems with this show. And to fair, the fact that Robert Picardo doesn't realize that is a bit of a problem.
For him anyway."

I’m really sorry my favorite OG character is gone now but thank you Showtime for playing all of the original 6 this evening….. he was the only cast member to be in them all.

How I'm feeling right now
Today sucks. The loss of TOS cast members always affects me deeply. The cast and characters are so warm and iconic, and I'm such as big TOS fan, that their departures always hit harder.
RIP.

Chekov Was Never Just Comic Relief. Thank You, Walter Koenig (1936-2026)
Walter Koenig played Pavel Chekov for more than half a century, and he played every joke completely straight.
This tribute follows Chekov’s rise through Starfleet: ensign at the Enterprise’s navigation console, security chief, first officer of the Reliant, and a commander on the bridge at Khitomer. He never got his own command, but he was there for nearly every turning point in the original crew’s history. We also look at Bester on Babylon 5 and Koenig’s final return to Star Trek as President Anton Chekov in Picard.
Episodes and films referenced: Amok Time, The Trouble with Tribbles, The Motion Picture, The Wrath of Khan, The Voyage Home, The Undiscovered Country, Generations, Babylon 5 “Mind War,” Picard “The Last Generation.”
What’s your favorite Chekov moment? Tell us in the comments.

[Interview] Star Trek: SFA Cast Talks Guest Stars In Season 2: Nyk Ake (Bill Nighy) and Nahla Ake (Holly Hunter)? - "It’s very like Greek god-type vibe. They’re immortal" | Rosemarie DeWitt as Laytha Sadal? - "She just like sees through you. And she was playing a character that does do that."
TREKMOVIE:
"At New York Comic Con earlier this month, Sandro Rosta (Caleb), Bella Shepard (Genesis), and Karim Diané (Jay-Den) spoke to TV Insider about season 2, and they all had things to say about what to expect for their characters with each agreeing that there are “a lot of twists and turns” for the cadets in season 2.
The first season had a big focus on Caleb Mir, with Captain Ake pulling him out of one prison to atone for putting his mom into a different prison. Going from criminal to cadet put him through a lot. Sandro said things start “pretty good” for Caleb in season 2:
Sandro Rosta: I think for Caleb, season 1 was so much about him finding his place, and now that he’s found it, he’s in a completely different space than he’s ever been in his life. So I think this is like the easiest he’s ever had it in terms of lack of struggle, but yeah, he still goes through stuff.
[...]
Bella Shepard also talked about how Genesis Lythe’s season 2 story picks up on her season 1 arc, which saw her face the pressure of being an admiral’s daughter at the A cademy.
Bella Shepard: For Genesis, we kind of saw her crack a little bit in season 1, and we definitely get to see another side of her in season 2, just more depth to Genesis, more depth to everybody. We really see them become fully developed characters. It’s exciting.
The big reveal from the NYCC panel was about two big guest stars for the season: Oscar nominee Bill Nighy is playing Captain Ake’s father, Nyk Ake, and Rosemarie DeWitt will be Laytha Sadal, the First Lady of Betazed and mother of cadet Tarima.
Regarding Nighy, Bella summed up Nyk Ake as “insane.” Karim agreed, saying he is “so funny,” and Sandro added that the character fits well with the show’s tone and brings “levity” to the characterization. Bella agreed that the character is “intricate.” She and Sandro also talked about the complicated (and centuries-long) relationship with Nyk and his daughter Nahla:
Bella Shepard: We see Nahla kind of turned upside down, being thrown back into her old life. And with the Lanthanites being thousands of years old, it’s a little bit like you can tell there’s A LOT of history with her whole family.
Sandro Rosta: It’s very like Greek god-type vibe. They’re immortal and they have so much history with each other, and it felt very much like that.
Sandro also talked about how he got to work with Rosemarie DeWitt, calling it “a blessing and an honor.” As DeWitt is playing the mother of Caleb’s Betazed girlfriend, it appears things get personal with her around:
Sandro Rosta: She’s so intuitively empathetic and just very down to earth, and makes me feel uncomfortable in a really good way as an actor. She just like sees through you. And she was playing a character that does do that. She’s a Betazoid, so it made a lot of sense, and I loved working with her… Let’s just say that there’s a lot of things said, some hurtful, some misunderstood, and some very… constructive. It’s a very constructive conversation.

Classic ST trope: people working on Star Trek don't know the universe and its lore

Foreign languages in the movies
I was just thinking about the bits of other languages we saw in the original cast movies and wanted to lay them out.
Star Trek II
Of course we have Spock and Saavik's conversation early in the movie, with onscreen translation.
Star Trek III
Lots of Klingon dialogue, also with onscreen translations.
Star Trek IV
Those "Norwegian" whalers were actually speaking Finnish, with thick accents. So it wasn't like they grabbed a few Finns and said Eh, Nordic, close enough. That was a deliberate choice by the makers of the film - not wanting to alienate Norwegians, I suppose.
Star Trek V
There's a line of Vulcan; Spock said it when he met Sybok, and Sybok said it when he encountered the entity on the planet: Qual se tu (Is it you?).
Star Trek VI
Lots of Klingon dialogue, but only some of it gets translated. You hear a lot of shouting aboard Qonos One, for instance, but much of it isn't translated. I wonder if those bits weren't actually derived from Klingon as it was eventually laid out, and were just Klingon-sounding shouts done for the movie.

[SFA Interview] Karim Diané on what the next creatives to come in should do with Star Trek: "Include real people. People look so different. I am so different from you, and you are different from me. I hope that we both can continue to see ourselves when we watch this TV show." (TrekMovie)
TREKMOVIE:
"Karim Diané was all over New York Comic Con this year, appearing on the Empire Stage with his Star Trek: SFA costars and producers and also putting in appearances at the Fanhome booth for meet & greets with fans. He was also at the NYC premiere of the new documentary The 60-Year Mission, where I caught up with him on the red carpet. [...]
TREKMOVIE: Star Trek is at a pivot point right now; if you could have a conversation with the next creatives to come in, whoever they may be, what would you tell them is really important to make sure they include in whatever they do with it?
Karim Diané: Include people, that’s the only thing that I hope for Star Trek moving forward. Include real people. People look so different. I look so different from you, I am so different from you, and you are different from me. I hope that we both can continue to see ourselves when we watch this TV show.
Do you think that some of that anger that’s out there did contribute to the cancellation of SFA ?
I think that there are multiple factors, and it’s impossible to pinpoint it on one thing. I’m just an actor. I don’t have the answers to that question. That’s probably a better question for Alex Kurtzman.
Everyone has an opinion…
Everyone has an opinion. Everyone’s opinion is going to be different. You know, there’s always three points of view, right? Your opinion, the other person’s opinion, and then the truth. So, who knows? I’m just so glad that I got to be a part of it for two entire seasons. Like that’s insane. I think a lot of people want me to feel negative or some kind of way, and I don’t, honestly. I’m sorry, but I don’t.
I am in Star Trek. Like… Two hours, two entire episodes are literally my mini movies, that is insane. That is so cool. I’m nothing but excited. I’m doing New York Comic Con tomorrow and Saturday on the main stage. People wait their entire life to get on that stage, and I just waltz in in my first major TV show. I’m so excited, and I can’t wait for the second season to drop. It’s gonna be even better than the first. I honestly think.
Is there anything anything you can tell us about it without getting in trouble?
Without getting in trouble, no. But I can say… If anybody was excited by seeing gay things in the first season, ba-by! (laughs) If anybody was upset by gay things in the first season, prepare to be pissed off. (laughs) [...]
There’s been a lot of chatter online on both ends, and they all kind of go in the same bucket, to be honest with you. And I just I’m doing me, and if anybody can feel any kind of inspiration — or not — from that, then that’s none of my business, honestly.
[...]"
