Big shoutout to Kevin Suhr for his help with materials and lighting.

The 283m-long Castellan-class Frigate, manufactured by Kuat Drive Yards, originally served as a civilian freighter before being extensively modified for Imperial service.

Question / Discussion Potential ISD Variant?

I have this image from the cover of X-Wing Rogue Squadron 32 (incorrectly showing the Eidolon during the evacuation of Ciutric) as my Laptop screensaver. It's one of my favourite pieces of star wars art and I love looking over it and noticing cool things.

One part I saw a while ago was this ISD (circled in yellow, 2nd image) and the blocky outcrops (circled in white). They don't match any ISD variants I know and I know they're just parts of a background ship from an art piece that already has mistaken lore in it, but it would be cool to think of this as a type of ISD, like the command or assault refits from EaWX:Thrawn's Revenge.

Have I got the wrong end of the stick or is this already an established fact? Let me know your thoughts!

Question / Discussion SPHA-T: They're Good or Bad?

I enjoy their concept and general design. And this scene is epic.

They hit hard and look cool doing it; if they're able to be used in orbital defence, they're super powerful. They're good in sieges and can be used as command centres. Can transport and deploy 30 troopers. They would also make for a cool small pirate base.

But they do seem a little awkward, with their little legs for manoeuvring and limited firing vectors.
It needs a crew of at least 12 to 30 clone troopers to operate effectively seems a lot.

Plus, their official specs make them super long at 140 m by 20m, (which they don't look like in the movie.) Which would make them a massive target for fighters.

And since it has such a big reactor core, it should probably also have it own thruster engines to deploy itself like the LAAT in atmosphere. So it could land & deploy, switch the power to the gun and switch power back to the engine if it needs to redeploy.

But mainly, this is a rant of why I don't get to see more action from them in the shows and movies.

Question / Discussion Is there any explanation for why, from Episode 5 onwards—across films, comics, and novels, as far as I’ve seen—nearly all Imperial Star Destroyers are of the Imperial II-class? (This refers to the period before the Disney acquisition.)

Question / Discussion J-type diplomatic barge

Post image

I just want to put it out there that I love the N-1 Star fighter as well as the visual design of the other Naboo ships but why the HELL does everything that isn’t a N-1 have ZERO weapons including J-type diplomatic barge. I get if you wanna seem peaceful but a J-type diplomatic barge is literally a ship carrying Star fighters, I think it should have some kind of weapons.

What do you think?

3D / Models Tanker / Fleet Oiler

Disclaimer: The term "oiler" is the term for these kinds of ships in real life, so I call them "oiler" to describe the concept. They don't carry only oil or refuel ships with oil.

A Tanker is used to refuel and resupply ships in space, the same concept as the Altor class.
The two tanks are modular and interchangeable with other tanks or storage facilities.
The dimensions therefore depend on the specific loadout of the ship.
The center "Block" is the actual ship, with ca.400m in lenght.
One of the large tanks is 770m long and 200m in diameter, with a volume of 22.000.000 m³ => 22.000.000.000 litre of Fuel per tank.
The current loadout is the standard loadout for refueling missions in the Imperial Navy. The two large tanks hold fuel, while the four smaller tanks hold liquids like coolant, oil, water, fighter fuel, etc.

Lore:
Introduced shortly before the outbreak of the Clone Wars, it served as a civilian tanker and oiler in PD Forces. During the clone wars, the Republic mass-produced them for their supply needs. The Empire took them over and continued its production, making the ship a common supply ship for the Empire. The civilian version was also continued and saw widespread service with diverse users.
So it is not impossible for Rebel groups to also be in possession of these ships.

Question / Discussion CIS Fleet

I wanted to ask what people think about the mass produced CIS fleet and its many ships. I personally think they did an amazing job with designing an EXTREMELY efficient fleet. I do wonder what you guys think is the best ship for its price and if you would have done anything differently from what was actually done.

Personally, I would have leaned into making a more fighter centered ship that would utilize vulture droid kamikazes. The lukerhulk carries 1500 vulture droids ON TOP of the huge invasion carriers and tanks. I think that if they made a ship that just released a BUNCH of fighters then it would be very overwhelming to any ship that’s up against it.

What do you think?

The Donjon-class Star Battleship 'Long Arm of Labor' and two CRUDIVs ambush a Republic formation centered around the Legator-class Star Dreadnought 'Inflexible'. Having already lost a handful of Venators and two Tyrants to the Separatists, the Republic admiral wisely begins a fighting retreat while his Urbanus CRUDIV moves in to cover their escape.

Donjon and Capital are both by u/GlitteringParfait438.

Question / Discussion My Idea for a Custom Star Wars Ship: The Raddus' Honor

Profile and Design: Extremely similar to the Profundity, the Raddus’ Honor had a large, rounded hull, with less bubbles than other Mon Calamari ships. The lower shaft the profundity has is at the very front, and two shorter ones protrude from the sides perpendicular to the ship, giving it a catfish-like profile. At 4.6 km long, the ship was much larger than the profundity. A second hangar bay is added to the bottom, behind the other. The aft section has 10 large sublight thrusters, in a 1-2-1-2-1-2-1 arrangement right to left. The side shafts. A fair amount behind the center of the ship is a dorsal mounted bridge. A star destroyer-like 3 Tier stack of rectangular decks lead to a bridge similar to that of the Acclamator-class destroyer. The middle deck houses two hangar bays on each side.

Complement: The Raddus’ Honor’s two ventral hangars each contain one of my custom frigates, the Caitken and Shollan (I will go into more detail later), as well as 72 X-Wings, 72 A-Wings, 36 BTL-B Y-Wings and 14 Delta II Class Shuttles. (Also will have more detail described later) The 4 Upper hangars each boasted 36 X-Wings, 36 A-Wings, and 12 BTL-B Y-Wings. This adds up to 288 X-Wings, 288 A-Wings, 192 Y-Wings, and 28 Delta II Class Shuttles.

Primary Armament: The top and bottom of the ship both have turbolasers arranged in a grid-like pattern. They are 8 rows going Front to Back, each having 24 turbolasers. The Decks on the top remove the middle 4 strips of rows 13-18, for 168 turbolasers on the top. The bottom has the same design, but the hangars take up the middle four strips of rows 9-18. They are the same size as the command/bridge section, and the two rows between the hangars are also empty, for 112 turbolasers on the bottom. The two lower hangars have extremely large and powerful quad turbolasers on either side of the hangar, each in the middle (from front to back) of it’s hangar’s right/left side. The ship’s bottom was designed in a way that allows the quad turbolasers to fire at most ships above or in front of the ship, as well as behind, but ships that are very close to and directly above, above and behind, above and to the side, or above and slightly in front of the heavy cannons are not able to be targeted. The Ion Cannons of the Raddus’ Honor are arranged in a ring around the edge of the craft, with 64 total.

Defensive Systems and Weaponry: The Raddus’ Honor features powerful redundant shielding like other Mon Calamari ships, utilizing 4 layers of shielding. The shafts/whiskers at the front of the ship make it so that the shields have a large coverage, stay protected from turbolaser barrages from imperial ships. The Raddus’ Honor utilizes a point defense system of 600 laser cannons across the hull, with 260 on the bottom and 340 on the top. The cannons are set similarly to the turbolaser systems.

The Caitken and Shollan: The Caitken and Shollan were designed to be small frigates similar to the Hammerhead Corvette and CR-90. They featured a horizontal engine display similar to that of the CR-90, but with only 2 rows of 3 Sublight thrusters. They then had bodies like that of the CR-90, with 3 Light Dual-Turbolasers on the top and bottom of Each Wedge, with faster tracking to help defend the craft against fighters. The Top and Bottom each have 2, slightly more powerful Turbolasers. The upscaled Hammerhead Corvette head the frigate bore also had a dual turbolaser on each side. It's slightly lacking armament was due to its focus on shields and speed.

Delta II Class Troop Transports: These transports bore a striking resemblance to the Empire's Delta Class Cargo Shuttle. However, it had these differences. 1. It was larger.

  1. The wings were connected on the ends by a rotating, about 2 foot wide, flap that would be raised to provide cover for troops during landings under heavy fire.

  2. It had a more defined two deck system, with all Delta IIs using the lower half for troop transport and the upper section for either more troop capacity, equipment, medical facilities, or command equipment. During operations, they would land, 4 creating a defensive perimeter, while 2 medical and 1 Command were stationed landed less uniformly, creating a small mobile base. The Lower level of each craft had doors that opened left and right, with U-Wing like gun emplacements on either side of each side's door.

So that's my custom Ship. Thanks for reading!!!

Question / Discussion Is there an approximate number for how many Venator-class and Resurgent-class Star Destroyers were built?

We know, for instance, that at its peak, the Empire constructed at least 25,000 Imperial-class Star Destroyers.

Question / Discussion My headcanon on the differences between the Executor-1 and Executor-2

Just a quick disclaimer before I start, in canon, there are actually two different Executor models. Since there was only around 5 years of Executor development (as confirmed by the 3rd Thrawn novel) it would imply that the Empire moved on to the Executor-2 pretty early on into the Executor’s service. This begs the question, why? Well, the Executor, powerful as it is, has a few flaws. Its bridge shields are overexposed, its turbolasers are normal, and its engines are a weak point.

My theory on the Executor-2 is that they fixed those problems and we might be able to see the difference in lore. As we know, the Executor was the first of the class and we know how it went down. Rebel ships managed to damage its engines, take down its bridge shielding, then ram an A-Wing into it. Because of the damaged engines, there wasn’t enough time for the crew to regain control of the ship before it went down. Ironically, SSD Vengeance went down in kind of a similar way, but with the CR-90 Corvette hitting the bridge, though after it had already taken damage.

Comparing those two to my next example, I think we could classify those as Executor-1s. I think an example of an Executor-2 would’ve been the Ravager. Looking at the Battle of Jakku, there are a few important points about the Ravager and how it performed. Basically, the Imperial strategy was to shield the Ravager with their ISDs and part only to let it fire. Considering how far the New Republic fleet would’ve had to have been in order for this to be a successful strategy, we can infer that the Ravager had long-range turbolasers. Next, when there was an opening in the ISD shield, the NR started hitting it with everything, but the shields held and the engine remained intact (albeit damaged). When it finally got pulled down into Jakku’s orbit, it actually wasn’t the end for the ship. The Ravager’s helmsmen actually managed to regain control of the ship’s maneuvering. But the problem was they overcorrected and it “capsized.” In order to correct a bad angle, in atmosphere, in a ship that size, takes absurdly powerful engines. Because of this, I think the Ravager was likely an Executor-2

Question / Discussion Better Ship Designers?

Okay so I know that a lot of you probably are gonna have your answer already chosen but my question is who is the better ship designer: the Quarren or The Calamari?

Personally I think the Quarren make better ships but that’s also due to my bias with loving the Providence class dreadnoughts and providence carriers.

What do you think?
