A little creative mushroom photography experiment from this autumn. I placed one water droplet on each mushroom and used colorful fallen leaves and additional light to create the warm, glowing background.

Five years ago, I got into film photography and became really close to my grandfather, who'd been a photojournalist, wedding photographer, and photography professor in the 1970s, but later became a general contractor. He has some amazing analog equipment of which I have been the grateful beneficiary (Hasselblad 500 C, Nikon F, Nikon 35Ti, and a plethora of lenses), but in his advanced age, he doesn't care for the weight of his old medium format equipment. His last full frame camera was a Nikon 35Ti bought in 1994, and he's been shooting exclusively on his iPhone since 2012. I've been trying to convince him to buy a Sony a7CR for the better part of a year now, and he finally gave in a month ago, right before his yearly Idaho/Wyoming backcountry trip (he's 81 btw). Anyways, I told him to put the camera in P, shoot raw, and I'd edit the photos.
I think it's safe to say, grandpa has still got it. When I pulled these into Lightroom, I was blown away. Earlier this week, he texted asking if we could go shoot so that I could teach him how to better use the camera, saying he didn't really know what he was doing. After seeing these, I think I could probably use a lesson or two from him.

Tuesday evening, Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-700.
During the fall and winter months, the moon lines up perfectly with the airport's final approach path from our front yard. It's just a matter of there being a plane at the right time and at the right altitude.

I was inspired by the Leica sl3 Reporter edition and got a green skin from AliExpress and some grip matching leather peace covering the silver lens ring.

Caught these frames during a quiet autumn morning in Yosemite. The valley was completely calm, with just a low blanket of fog drifting over the river and the granite walls lighting up in golden morning sun. Whenever life gets overwhelming, standing out here at dawn with a camera is the ultimate reset button.
Shot on a tripod right at the water’s edge to catch the mirror reflections. Which perspective do you prefer?
Gear: Sony a1 and Sony 24-70 GM II f2.8
Settings: f7.1, ISO 100, shutter speed 1/10 sec
CPL filter.

So yeah, today i dropped my Sony 28-60 and it got stuck on 30mm and the whole extending part of the lens is tilted like 20°, but the autofocus and aperture is still working. Any tips on repairing? I tried to look for some disassembly video or at least some schematics of the lens, but i couldn't find anything.

Took Sony's 100mm macro 2.8 macro lens (camera A7IV) to photograph some mushrooms or insects and I end up photographing squirrel-model!

Taken with with my Sony A55v with the baby Beercan and the 18-50 kit-lens on my heavy ass old Rollei tripod. Great things to get in to if you like me have insanely short days. (Were at 7.5 hours of daylight and counting down here up north)
All the tools are still just botched together things from old toys and plumbing supplies. Really refreshing to be seeing progress every day, so it's hella fun. I can warmly recommend giving it a shot (pun intended), its a nice break in tempo and a whole new way of composing.
Critique is warmly welcome and highly appreciated.

Panning photography on a telephoto lens is as difficult as advertised. But I got some decent shots out of the 600+ images from the day.

A follow-up to my earlier post about the Sony QX1 and the Viltrox 26mm f/2.8 EVO where I promised u/antgoo to report back once I'd received the TTArtisan AF 24mm f/3.8 Mini, and I've now had a chance to compare it with my Viltrox AF 28mm f/4.5 FE "Chip" lens.
Both are *tiny*, autofocus full-frame E-mount lenses, I would say "sub-pancake" size, making them rather appealing companions to the equally tiny (and rather eccentric) Sony QX1. And because they're full-frame lenses, I can also use them on my A7R V, which is a definite advantage.. On the QX1's APS-C sensor, their nominal focal lengths correspond to approximately 36mm and 42mm full-frame equivalents.
The sun finally made an appearance today, so I took the QX1 and both lenses to a nearby park to take some comparison photographs. This is by no means a scientific lens test. I'm simply sharing a few real-world JPEGs straight out of the QX1, without any post-processing, so that you can see how the two lenses render the same scenes on the same camera.
Images 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 are the Viltrox.
Images 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 are the TTArtisan.
I tried to include both challenging lighting conditions, with the sun close to the edge of the frame (1, 2, 7, 8), almost in the frame (9, 10) and more favourable situations with the sun behind the camera (3, 4, 11, 12) or super low-contrast in the shade (5, 6 - the car).
The photographs were taken from the same camera position, so the framing naturally differs somewhat between the 24mm and 28mm lenses. Interestingly, I found the difference in field of view less noticeable than I'd expected. Of course, the focal lengths printed on lenses aren't necessarily their exact measured values, so I wonder whether these two might be a little closer together than their specifications suggest?
In a quick experiment in my garden a couple of days ago, the Viltrox suffered a fairly substantial loss of contrast with the sun just outside the frame, whereas the TTArtisan retained noticeably punchier contrast and colours. Although the TTArtisan still seemed to have the edge in challenging lighting conditions today, the difference between the two lenses was less pronounced today than it had been the other day. So perhaps my initial impressions were influenced more by the particular lighting conditions than I'd realised.
My initial impressions seem broadly consistent with the two video reviews I've seen, by Dustin Abbott and Arthur R.
I've also been experimenting with different ways of operating the QX1, including Sony Imaging Edge Mobile (IEM), Shutter+, Camrote and Sony's RM-LVR3 Live-View Remote. There are some interesting differences in functionality, autofocus behaviour and connection reliability, along with a few unexpected quirks. Camrote, for example, explicitly lists the QX1 as supported, but so far I've been unable to establish a working connection. I'll cover those experiments in a separate post about remote-control options for the QX1.
Thanks again to everyone who contributed to the previous post. It's been a pleasure discovering that I'm not the only person still tinkering with this odd little camera more than a decade after its introduction. I'm well aware that, in 2026, using a camera that has to be attached to a smartphone and controlled over Wi-Fi strikes many people as a ridiculously cumbersome way of taking photographs. To be fair, they have a point! Still, I am having a lot of fun with the QX1. And, judging by the surprisingly high asking prices for used QX1s, I suspect I'm not quite alone in my enthusiasm.

Bought a used Sony Alpha a7ii as my first full frame, mirrorless camera from an reputable online shop that specializes in used gear back in June of '25. Absolutely loved it. Put it away for a few months because...well, life got in the way of hobby time.
Took it back out this week to finally do some more street photography and none of the buttons work on the back. Shutter button still works but I'm locked out of everything else. Looked into it and apparently its a common issue with the a7ii and iii. Warranty ran out because I'm dumb and didn't think i needed an extended warranty at the time of purchase.
So now I'm SOL without a camera and currently can't afford anything new (or used).
That's it. that's the post.
Just wanted to warn others to really do research, especially when buying used gear.
And also to vent...Mostly to vent, i guess.
