Game Discussion Critique of AAA war propaganda from indie games
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Since there's a new major war game being discussed, I thought I'd share some of my critique of imperialist propaganda within the corporate game industry in my anti-capitalist indie game Neofeud 2.
"The number-one recruitment tool in the galaxy for stormtrooper ranks is AAA games like Call of Colonialism! Played on Omni-Box 451, most popular vidya console on Muskhworld 426, on which the empire's fighter pilots button-mash between g-cidal bombing runs.
With cyber-subversion help from a former Wrathion programmer, Nostromo the anti-empire robosoldier takes over a F-135 starcraft used to bomb planet Yiden to plunder resources and prevent spread of 'The Red Scourge' of cosmic collectivism. Who will win the struggle playing out in the minds of gamers / Star Warriors? Find out in Neofeud 2!" (From Instagram)

casual game talk Just got Elden Ring, when exams are done I'm going to have a lot of fun!
I found it odd that they would have a SAMURAI in a Norse mythology-inspired setting, but I couldn't resist the urge to play as a Samurai

EA's insane pay gap, visualized
A Dragon Age fan posted this article on tumblr following the Bioware news and my jaw dropped looking at the pay gap chart. I know CEOs are being paid egregiously but it's so much worse than i can imagine. The disparity is so bad it took me 20 swipe to get to the bottom of the chart.

Mass Effect: Universe leaked trailer
https://youtu.be/WP3ieef0mpE?is=aDiEAEECx62atAzX
The campaign to make EA reconsider their decision to shut down Bioware have gained remarkable momentum under the #savemasseffect hashtag in just a few days. EA have greatly underestimated the strength of the Mass Effect brand. It's an icon of the medium, and there is still a chance to save this universe if we make our voices heard. Remember - it worked to save Destiny.
But this is bigger than just a single game. It's a battle for the soul of the whole industry. EA, this behemoth which controls a gigantic chunk of the gaming sphere, seeks to fulfill a dystopian vision of gaming. They want to create a future where every game is live service and riddled with micro transactions. Where the games exist only to suck as much money out of the consumer as possible, designed to trigger addictive behaviors in their often very young player base. To join the fight for Mass Effect: Universe is also to resist the bleak future EA wants to enforce upon us. Video games as an art form is under attack now more than ever. Sure, making EA realize it might be a wise business decision to keep the door open for other games than Fifa and SW Battlefront isn't exactly a revolutionary action. But it is a little something that might make life just a little bit more bearable for gamers.
Call it a fool's errand if you like, but stranger things have happened.
Keelah Se'lai. We will hold the line.

Event We're organising a festival in East London next weekend about games, politics and changing the rules
Hey Reddit! We're Games Transformed, a festival happening across three venues in East London on 31 October and 1 November.
We're bringing together people who make games, play games, organise politically, and are interested in how games can help us understand the world and imagine changing it.

There'll be 80+ board games, workshops, talks, experimental games and plenty of opportunities to actually play, make things and meet people.

We've got a packed programme put together with game designers, artists, activists and organisers, exploring everything from political organising and resistance to the systems that shape our everyday lives.
We're a small team organising this independently, and we'd love to get the word out to more people who might be interested.
You can find out more on our insta: https://www.instagram.com/gamestransformed/
Tickets are available here: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/gamestransformed/2328476
Happy to answer any questions about the festival or the programme!

Game Discussion The Corporate-driven Loop of the Military Entertainment Complex
"The defectors are Jung Min-woo and Kwon Hyo-jin. The former defected 13 years ago (2013) and the latter 17 years ago (2009), so it is hilarious how this channel is using them as some kind of reliable source on the DPRK. Mind you, these lot defected during the time when most defections to the South happened due to post-famine shock, not out of a love for capitalism. Although many were also kidnapped by South Korean intelligence agents and right wing Evangelical groups in the border towns of China's Liaoning and Jilin Provinces, such cells have long since been dismantled and the perpetrators imprisoned.
The NK Guys are based in the US but the actual production is based in Fake Korea, a comparator state dominated by corporate Chaebols families, operating as a propaganda spin-off of the DimpleVideo Channel on YouTube. While they may not receive direct, overt state funding, they function as an ideological apparatus within the broader imperialist media network, utilising defectors to spread fake narratives for capital accumulation.
When defectors cross into the capitalist south, they face systemic marginalisation, poverty, and discrimination, cutting them off from dignified economic opportunities which then Capitalism creates a permanent underclass to redirect the working class anger and scapegoat all of its problems to. This material reality forces them into a deeply exploitative cycle under bourgeois media structures, where they must commodify their own lives and homeland for profit. Because the attention economy of the imperial core heavily rewards extreme, cartoonish, and manufactured stories to justify its own hegemony, a direct financial pipeline is created. To secure a livelihood within this digital marketplace, the content must constantly escalate to feed the chauvinistic and orientalist expectations of Western audiences.
By using Call of Duty, a multi billion dollar piece of Western military industrial propaganda sponsored by the US federal government, placing the sensationalist hook "REALITY WAS WORSE" over a corporate simulation of a DPRK invasion, the channel actively exploits both the historical trauma for bourgeois profit but also these manufactured narratives serve a distinct class interest, they shape public perception within the imperial core to normalise the dehumanisation of the DPRK and its people but to manufacture a mandate for regime change and Western intervention.
This is what the Mental means of production is, as stated by Karl Marx and Engels in 1845 in their seminal work The German Ideology."

Game Discussion I am really interested in the idea of playing WoW Forever. But I'm very aware of Microsoft and their gaming division being on the BDS list. Is there any room for nuance here? Or do I need to just give up on the idea?
