They said they removed the overgrown shrubs. Just so happens the entire forest was overgrown 🤷♂️

In Pittsburgh, can confirm that Fallingwater hasn't been turned into a Dentist office or it would have made news.

That doesn't change the fact that AI's garbage. This meme could've been made in Photoshop and would've been equally as funny.

Is that a frank lloyd wright masterpiece turned into a dental office?
415
u/Pocketsandgroinjab Jul 18 '26
Imagine turning an architectural masterpiece into a dentist office when it could become something useful like a data centre or an Amazon fulfilment centre.
77
u/Vladishun Jul 18 '26
Not just a dental office, but the Dental Office.
This seems like bullshit to me based on the picture. Where I'm from dental places typically have heartfelt names like SmileCentral Dentistry or Big Grin Kids Club... You get the idea.
This image would be like seeing a big building just labeled Grocery Store. It's bizarre.

u/GayButNotInThatWay Jul 18 '26
When I first left school I worked part time admin for The Cleaning Company. Calling up people and introducing myself as calling from "The Cleaning Company", 99% of the time got a "which one?" So frustrating to explain that was just the name.
12
u/TheTriforceEagle Jul 18 '26
Its a Frank Lloyd Wright house, this one specifically is "Fallingwater" and its a museum. so definitely not real
5
u/Euphoric-Ground9568 Jul 18 '26
By me its GUY NAME Dentist Office, GUY NAME Family Dentistry, or CITY NAME Dentist. No whimsy at all. U_U
32
u/vacri Jul 18 '26
It's an artful design, but not an architectural masterpiece. It's taught in architectural undergrad degrees all the problems with it. The space inside isn't very nice to live in, it's damp and leaky, and the cantilever balcony wasn't designed right and needed to be reworked after the fact by the builder.
27
u/Firesine330 Jul 18 '26
The man who paid Wright to build it called it "RisingMildew" instead of "FallingWater" within a year. There are a lot of architectural and engineering principles that he simply didn't care to learn.
2
u/tessathemurdervilles Jul 18 '26
We toured one of his houses when I was in my arch program and the vibes were cool- but everything was too short, like all the counters and windows and stuff, some of the rooms would be randomly cramped, the kitchen was an absolute afterthought (correct me if I’m wrong but I feel like this was because he didn’t give a shit about cooking?)- his design was just stuff he liked instead of being for people to live in.

u/Hewfe Jul 21 '26
Should have gone for mattress store. It already looks like a small stack of them.
5
u/Fan_of_Clio Jul 18 '26
Agreed, but what does that have to do with the over hyped, disfunctional, decades old pile shown here?
1
u/NewCandy8877 Jul 18 '26
Far from a masterpiece, for follows function and this building is not functional for a person to live in.

Its either AI or Photoshop, but yes. To be fair, the wilderness FLW houses cost an astronimical amount and I watched a documentary saying some of them need a LOT of upkeep to keep them habitable, so making it a business might actually be better to generate money to fund said upkeep

u/Time_Temperature419 Jul 19 '26
Get off his nuts, he wasn't that great.
FLW jr. only had a few noteworthy pieces, and falling waters is the hollywood poster-child of said works. Most of his crap was utterly and wholly impractical e.g. "using the natural landscape to be incorporated in the design of the building". He literally decided to run a waterfall through a home, in what world is that practical? While it doesn't have to be a dental office. the entire property could have been converted to something much more useful, not just the vacation home of some rich prick.
1
u/Otherwise-Text-5772 Jul 19 '26
I've been to that Frank Lloyd Wright house. There's no people there to support a dental office
-1
u/Fan_of_Clio Jul 18 '26
FLW and "masterpiece" are two nouns that don't belong together without a negative determiner like "not" strung in there somewhere
10
u/Emm_withoutha_L-88 Jul 18 '26
Fucking thank you
I had to do a goddamn paper on him in college, not even a basic class. A paper! I got drunk and very high and wrote it in a hurry at 2am the night before, forgot everything in it other than hating him for reasons I don't fully remember. Then the teacher bringing me up to tell me how great of a paper is was while I pretend to totally remember it.
4
u/tfhdeathua Jul 18 '26
Sounds like your very drunk and high reasons for hating him at 2am before forgetting what you learned by the next morning is a great reason to think he’s not a good architect.

-2
u/Blood_sweat_and_beer Jul 18 '26
You’re out of your mind. He was probably the most influential architect of the last century.
5
u/Fan_of_Clio Jul 18 '26
And WWI was the most influential event of the 20th century.
"Influential" does not necessarily mean positive

Do you know how many millions of dollars have gone into keeping Fallingwater from Falling Into The Water? It looks cool, yeah. Some neat architecture, sure. But is it truly good architecture if it’s designed so shittily that it’s being washed away? I don’t think so.
0
u/DrKittyLovah Jul 18 '26
It’s okay to admit that FLW had some blind spots and that not everything he did was a masterpiece. I mean, this particular design is taught in college courses as a What Not to Do, which is something that shouldn’t be ignored. I don’t think we are diminishing FLW’s legacy by pointing out his misses.

u/vacri Jul 18 '26
This joke does show that most of the beauty of Fallingwater is actually in the falling water and not in the building design
158
u/Super_Interview_2189 Jul 18 '26
As someone who has visited several FLW homes, he understood the environment and always built his structures to complement the environments they were built in.
Also his Chattanooga house is for sale for only $1.6 million. Insane that such a historic piece of art would go for that little, regardless of the housing crisis.
60
u/Wavelightning Jul 18 '26
Might be a nightmare to insure; older house too and if a lot of the value is in the FLW artistry it will make renovations expensive without taking out of the value of the home.
26
u/Super_Interview_2189 Jul 18 '26
Very true. That low of a cost likely implies there is serious structural damage. Those hanging cantilevers, a signature of his design, would likely need some repair. Nonetheless, it’s still a beautiful home and my family has thought about touring it as “prospective buyers.”
6
u/Fan_of_Clio Jul 18 '26
😂😂😂😂
In multiple structures he couldn't master a simple concept called "moisture".
(A great deal of the reason why this single family home is now unoccupied)
He was a self promoting hack that countless people still buy into the scam decades later
1
u/1800twat Jul 18 '26
There’s a FLW house in Phoenix that has been for sale for years and has a listing of 8 mil last I checked.
22
u/voyaging Jul 18 '26
That’s the whole point of the architectural movement he was part of lmao
The building was designed to be congruous with the environment, the fact you say this shows how masterfully he accomplished this
6
u/vacri Jul 18 '26
It's not congruous with the environment. It contrasts with it. You could put almost any similarly-sized freestanding house in that spot and it would look nice.
As for masterful... why did the original long-term owners feel compelled to do annual structural surveys of it? It required quite a lot of maintenance for a 'weekend getaway house'. It's artful, but there's a lot of issues with it.
2
u/WildRaspberriesTN Jul 18 '26
I tried to visit, but they wanted $20 just to walk through the garden and required I make a reservation to have a tour of the house. I live in TN, we happened to be in the area visiting my husband’s family, so it would be a couple years before I came back, and then I never went back because we divorced.
2
u/RockItGuyDC Jul 18 '26
Well that is a horrible take because that is still the coolest dentist office I've ever seen.

Haha! My favorite humor is absurdity! Because this is perfectly absurd, for the demonstration of the ignorance of having something that doesn’t mean anything to someone who doesn’t deserve to have it.
The idea that a billionaire who is in their 50’s, wouldn’t just retire and enjoy being able to do whatever they want for the rest of their lives. Visit every single beach on the planet every day. Or enjoy seeing all the beautiful things on the planet. And instead, running Walmart still. Or buying Tesla from the actual inventors, and making a cyber truck. Instead of just enjoying being super insanely set for life times a billion. I think it’s mental illness that’s the joke sadly

Never was a fan of that building. It long had issues of mold, cuz let’s be honest why would you build a structure where water flows by?
1
u/Thubanstar Jul 23 '26
I can tell you are a practical person. Someone with a different mindset would find the lovely sounds of water soothing and the scenery poetic.
1
u/Tim_Dias Jul 23 '26
I do love nature. It’s just my take is that why build on top of a waterfall? Not a hater but not also a fan. I can see the vision of the architect though…

u/dividezero Jul 18 '26
I wouldn't be surprised except it's in the middle of nowhere basically.
Anyway, this kind of thing was all the rage from like the 60s through the 2000s, give or take. Then the historic preservation societies restored a bunch. Now it seems like they're back to tearing down and wood paneling over this kind of art again

u/Danimalx87 Jul 23 '26
Living in one of franks houses is a dream of mine. We lost that creativity in building and the world is worse for it.
