Shitty Crosspost User wants me to replace her PC, no questions asked , and without manager approval. I told her we don't replace anything without attempting to fix it first
But her son does IT security for the DOD, gas, electric, and water companies.

Miss, im the manager here. I cannot replace your PC without first consulting the department of Homeland security's Helpdesk. I hope you understand. Those are just our procedures

You would think working an IT job for the DOD wouldn’t require another It job with an energy company, and a third IT job wirh the water company. Karen’s son is busy three jobs and all

Odds are her son told her to do something that actually made things worse.

I had a similar user a couple months ago. She claimed her "tech savvy" son and Claude AI told her that my company was secretly applying a Teams policy only to her account that prevented her from using her microphone and camera in meetings intermittently. And sent me a list of nonexistent (presumably Claude hallucinated) settings to check in the Teams admin center. And yet anytime I replied back with troubleshooting steps she didn't do them because Claude and her son clearly knew better.

Users being too dumb to spill coffee on a computer and show it to their manager has to be the opposite of a recession indicator.

As someone on security (albeit not working for the illustrious DOD or the ever so venerable critical infrastructure companies whose reputation certainly precede them): kindly don’t ask me consumer hardware questions. I have no idea how to most efficiently find out that your PCI connector has a crack the size of the Grand Canyon running down it.

Having unauthorized people access the PC = likely compliance breach
