General Sedona FAQ's

Please, read and review our FAQ before posting

Where to eat:

Best of town - Elote, Mariposa, Shorebird, The Vault, The Hudson, Molé

Also recommended - Dahl and Deluca (Italian), The Vault, The Hudson, Piccazzo’s (vegetarian/gluten free), Chocolate Tree (vegan), Open Range Grill (views), Indian Garden (OKC), Sedona Beer Co, Mesa Grill (views), Colt Grill (BBQ, brisket)

Cheaper side - Nicks, Filiberto’s (fast food), Jay Birds (hot chicken)

Where to stay:

Best of town - La’beurge, Amara, Ambiante

Also recommended: Los Abrigados, The Wild Inn, Adobe Grand Villas, A Sunset Chateu, Sedona Real

Not ethically - Enchantment , Air BnB’s

Where should I hike - is mostly a question that requires a lot of input and nuance. There are no *must see*’s

Easy: Secret Slick Rock, Marg’s Draw, Fay Canyon, Yavapai Vista, Sugarloaf Vista loop

Moderate (subjective) - Mescal (in and out), Little Horse, Doe Mountain , Yavapai Vista area,

Baldwin to Tempelton (in and out, water), Huckaby (same, views of town)

More difficult - Hangover Loop, Bear Mountain, Wilson Mountain

Recommended Resources - 1L per hour, FIrst aid, Navigation, snacks, appropriate footwear, moleskine

Not Recommended - Devil’s Bridge. Expect to wait in line up to hours to take on of the most captured pictures of Sedona

Do Not - Follow social trails found on AllTrails. Many listed popular sites are NOT sanctioned Forest Service Trails. As a result, ancient archeology dating to the 1200s is being destroyed every day. Includes: Subway Cave (not a cave), Birthing Cave (also not a cave).

Note - When stepping on Sedona trails, you accept that you may encounter animals. Mule Deer and Javelina are prominent, and expect to see dogs. Regardless of opinion, some dogs will be off leash, most often in less traveled areas. This is not a reason to not leash your dog. If you cannot hold your palm on the ground for 10 seconds, it's too hot for your dogs paws

Traffic: Traffic is unpredictable. During the spring, it can take hours to get from the Village of Oak Creek to West Sedona. The room rates will indicate the demand, and parallel the traffic.

When to travel: Slowest times of the year are Jan-Feb, Early December, Early September. The summer is very slow for good reason

Where to drive: Jerome (town on a cliff, wineries), Williams (train to the GC), Flagstaff (Oak Creek Canyon drive)

Things to do:

Hike (guided hikes are also a great way to learn about local history and flora/fauna)

Shop (uptown is great walking, Tlaqupaque has great shops too)

Visit satellite cities (Jerome, Flagstaff)

Palaki/Honanki Heritage sites (ancient history)

Visiting ? Best suggestion for "Jeep" tours outside of Pink Jeep

Hi Everyone,

I'm making a trip to Arizona this December and my father in law highly suggested doing a pink jeep tour in Sedona. He said he did it many years ago and it was the best experience of his trip when he last visited.

I did some light research last night and found a reddit post where a majority of commenters said that its over priced and not worth it. Another comment suggested this company instead.

Hummer Tours - Sedona Jeep Tours

I'm curious if most of you would say to skip Pink Jeep and go with someone else or not even do one at all.

If it helps, the trip would just be my wife and I.

Thanks for taking the time to reading this.

Looking For Sedona Proposal

Hey everyone!

I’m planning on visiting Sedona for a few days the last week of December. I have family in Vegas so will be visiting them for the holidays then going over to Sedona for a few days with just my girlfriend and I.

I’m looking to propose and was interested to know of the best spots? I would prefer it to not be that crowded and a more private/ intimate experience. I saw a few recommendations for Doe Mountain. I heard Sunrise could be a pretty good time to do it. Also considering hiring a local photographer to capture the moment

Any thoughts or local recommendations?

Thank you!

Living Here Sedona bum

I’ve always thought
Colorado has Aspen
Utah has Moab
California has Mammoth
Florida has the keys
Arizona has Sedona
I’m curious, as someone in the North valley, is living in Sedona working a good way to make summer money at a hotel or something and then using my time off to climb and ride mtb, I doubt that’s what Sedona needs more of and if I lived in a tourist town I would probably hate tourist and people to, but it’s been a thought.

Weather Is it realistic to live in Flagstaff and work in Sedona?

I’m moving from out of state to attend NAU, and I have a potential job lined up in Sedona. However, I’m aware that the blizzards get intense during the winter and I would be afraid to drive through the mountains to get to work when it gets bad. Is the snow so bad that residents get stuck in the city?, and if so how do essential workers get to their workplace? I am planning on studying on driving in the snow before I come, but is it still too risky? Am I overreacting?

Visiting ? Visiting 10/28 - 11/1

We will be visiting Sedona 10/28 a 11/1/26 and looks like a decent chance of rain in the forecast. We have a jeep tour and stargazing booked, and I know those are weather dependent. We will be 4 adults and a 5 year old. Looking for suggestions for rainy day activities and recommendations for hikes that are safer or more accessible given the rain chances. Thanks!

Caught these guys flying through Boynton Canyon this morning. Absolutely unreal to watch. The maneuver between the canyon wall and the spire was BANANAS.

Outdoors ? Loud hikers in quiet spots?

We just climbed up Bell Rock yesterday for the view and a little contemplation and I was really struck by a handful of clueless folks who were so loud, continually, that it was disruptive for everyone around them. I’m not talking about chit chat or a little group convo in regular voice.
I mean the Rhode Island bros who climbed up high and then yelled for 20 minutes back and forth, their voices carrying back and forth over dozens of people seated below them trying to get their vortex on.
Or the family who shouted continuously to each other about their fear of bed bugs as they climbed up and down and then let their young daughter throw rocks down the hill despite people below.
Is there a decent, non jerk way to ask people to keep it down? I love hearing families having fun. Americans are loud, myself included. But it really spoiled the vibe for others.

Visiting ? Red Rock hiking & Mingus in this weather/storm? Possible or stupid?

Hi all, we are visiting from the UK and today had planned to hike Red Rock (around 4/5 mile loop) and Mingus today as we leave tomorrow - it’s been heavy rain for hours and still forecast to keep raining with a flood alert. I assume it will be very muddy/slippy. It does seem to be easing off this morning and stopping or intermittent while we’d be hiking.

My friends are desperate to hike this route but I thought I would check with locals if it’s possible with extra caution or a stupid idea. Can’t see any alert on the parks website.

TIA!

Visiting ? First solo trip to Sedona tomorrow, but the weather looks terrible, very sad

Hey everyone!
I’m flying into Phoenix tonight (October 20) and was planning my first-ever solo trip to Sedona on October 21–22.

I’ve already booked a rental car and a non-refundable hotel in Sedona for Wednesday night. My plan was to explore the red rocks, do some easy-to-moderate hikes, take photographs, and enjoy the scenery before driving back to Phoenix on Thursday.

Unfortunately, the forecast now shows thunderstorms, heavy rain, and potential flash flooding for both days. Pretty terrible timing, lol
I’m wondering if it’s still worth making the drive to Sedona or if I should change my itinerary entirely.

For those familiar with the area:
How bad is the weather expected to be?
Is sightseeing still possible between showers, or should I avoid Sedona altogether?
Are there any alternative destinations within 2–3 hours of Phoenix with better weather?

I’d really appreciate any local advice! I’ve never been to Arizona before and was genuinely looking forward to exploring its landscapes

General December trip! Snow?

Hey yall. I’m planning on spending a week or two in AZ (homebase being Tempe) in December to escape the Minnesota cold. I’ve Arizona many times but never during winter. Im a big mountain lover and was hoping to spend some time in flagstaff and Sedona while there. I’m obviously used to driving in snow but know that the road conditions and maintenance of the snow is different in AZ. If
I get a 4WD car, is it possible to still go to those places? I know you can’t predict weather but just wanted to know advice and what I would be getting myself into. Thanks!
