Time management

What are the most time consuming teaching tasks that drive you crazy?

Grading work and classroom management, depending on the class. Online work is easier to grade but rampant AI use has made me switch to handwritten work. Sometimes it’s just illegible.

I would agree, grading.

Grading is the one area I hope AI can lighten my work load. For rubric based grading it would be great to have AI that can mark the overall assignment while I can focus on a specific area I want to give feedback on. The issue is I’ve moved to mostly physical assignments like lab journals over typed lab reports (because of AI).

Copying stuff when the printer keeps running out paper, staples, toner, starts jamming, or generally stops working and you keep having to diagnose the next problem.

Lab set up, take down, and material storage and management.

But that’s all usually fun!

Grading is also time consuming and much less enjoyable

Material storage! I changed rooms over the summer, but the room I moved into was full of stuff for classes not taught by me. A lot of it is stuff not taught by anyone in the building. A lot is outdated. But some is for a class I have not taught before, so I may need this year. And I brought all of my stuff from my other room.

I still need to organize my storage closet. And I’m still missing papers i know are somewhere.

🤪🤷‍♀️

Grading 😭 I hate it, but REFUSE to use AI to auto-grade.

ETA: lab setup & cleanup. Especially for Project Lead the Way Biomedical sciences. The labs are awesome, the setup SUCKS and I wish I had a TA
