Announcement: New Era, New Subreddit Rules

In 2024, advancements of Generative AI caused users to flood the internet with "I told AI to generate an image of X" posts, and r/SSX was no exception. Since these posts contributed nothing to the community and didn't promote healthy conversation, we implemented new rules prohibiting them. It's now 2026, and the use of AI to generate content has increased dramatically, both in quantity and complexity.

Now that users can type sentences into a model to generate entire games, these releases are beginning to flood social media just like the images used to. These also provide nothing for the community and not only don't promote healthy conversation, but they also draw in a noticeable amount of negativity, which has no place in r/SSX or the internet as a whole. Me and the other three moderators realized we couldn't simply update our rules every time Generative AI caused new problems, so we needed to take action before this became more widespread.

Unfortunately, our original rules have been thrown into uncertainty, as it's no longer possible to judge posts based on meaningful contribution or productivity, especially given the ease of covering up undisclosed Generative AI usage. The divisive nature of the topic would force us to bring bias and opinion into moderation, something we will not allow ourselves to do. As difficult as it was, we have reached a decision about what to change going forward.

As of this post, we have expanded our existing rules regarding AI-generated content to blanket-ban all related content and topics. We realize this may not sit right with some people, however this was the only feasible option. It's our job to maintain a healthy community, which sometimes means doing the BEST thing for everyone, even if that isn't the PERFECT thing for everyone.

The new rule prohibits all of the following, but is not limited to:

  1. AI-generated images or videos. These were already banned.

  2. Links to AI-generated content posted because they contain AI-generated content. If you post something as part of an unrelated conversation and you genuinely didn't realize the content inside was AI-generated, like an article that has an inauthentic image at the top, then that's fine, just remember to delete it as soon as you notice.

  3. Any computer or video game software created with any involvement of Generative AI whatsoever, even just assistance.

  4. General conversation about Generative AI. This is a subreddit about SSX, not an off-topic discussion board.

  5. Attacking people over Generative AI-related topics. Harassment has been a reddit-wide rule infraction since the site's creation and the rule exists here too.

If you see a post that violates any of the rules, then please don't hesitate reporting them. Not all of us are online at all times. To those who are understanding of the decision we've come to, we appreciate you. Also, we are in no way shape or form telling you what to do with your time. If you want to use Generative AI, you're free to do so, but please respect the rules of communities which disallow discussing it.

SSX Modding Community Showcase

I recently realized that I've never talked much about the SSX modding community here. I've shown off a few of their creations, but I've never advertised it or explained what it's accomplished beyond that! I think it's about time I talk about it and what we've accomplsihed together.

Existing in some form since 2018 but officially forming in 2021, the SSX modding community aims to tackle the more technical side of the SSX games, from reverse-engineering, decompilation, and the programming of tools for various purposes. Currently led by modders modeco80, Archy, Linkz, and several others, they've done things with these games that surprised even me. Archy told me that it was my modding showcase video from late 2019 that got him into the scene, so while I'm not up for big fancy video productions anymore, I thought I might as well put the spotlight on the modding community once again to show everyone what they've managed to accomplish in these exciting 8 years.

You may have seen me post custom SSX Tricky tracks before, such as Yukon Supercross, Moloka'i Pa'hee and Snow Belline by modder ManTheSam:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pq3fyxMtr5o

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_cLe0dbN18

These were made possible by both Archy and Linkz, who have both made their own full SSX Tricky level editors, helping each others' projects along the way. First starting development on June 7th 2023 is Archy's level editor known as IceSaw, a play on the name of one of the official tools used by EA Sports BIG, known as IcePick. This level editor takes the form of a Unity package and is capable of creating full-fledged Tricky levels, minus a few more complicated tasks such as advanced lighting and intro cameras. It also has partial support for SSX OG and has early unpublished work that will eventuallly allow the same modifications to be done to SSX 3:

https://github.com/GlitcherOG/Icesaw-SSX-Level-Editor-Plugin

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zb2_DF9lBvk

Due to the ever-growing jank of Unity, a successor has been in the works aptly named IceSaw2, which aims to be a completely standalone application, but development on it has been slow due to a lack of contributors:

https://github.com/IceSawTeam/Ice-Saw-2

Modder Linkz has his own SSX Tricky level editor, taking the form of a Blender plugin, known as BXTools. This software has more cutting-edge technology, such as a good amount of work on lightmap generation, and usually sees advancements before they're implemented into IceSaw:

https://github.com/Linkz64/bxtools

The community as a whole have developed and put together a comprehensive collection of PCSX2 PNACH cheats and GameCube Action Replay codes to avoid having to find questionable codes across the internet:

https://github.com/SSXModding/SSX-Patches

Adding to Archy's list of modding feats is the SSX Multitool, the Swiss Army Knife of SSX modding tools. It can do a ton of things, from extracting SSX levels for use with IceSaw, unpacking/repacking/creating of the franchise's .BIG file archives supporting every compression type, nearly full support for audio replacements, language file creation and editing, texture editing and replacement, and a myriad of other useful things. It has recently begun adding support for GameCube and Xbox versions of various game files:

https://github.com/GlitcherOG/SSX-Collection-Multitool

One of his most recent masterpieces is the SSX Mod Manager. Due to the games taking various forms and usually requiring unpacking and repacking game ISOs, Archy has taken it upon himself to make a full mod manager that automates the entire process of modding environment preparation and installation, with the least amount of user interaction possible! Existing mods have nearly all been converted to its special compressed format:

https://github.com/GlitcherOG/SSXModManager

Of course, to aid in the creation of his tools, Archy and several others have been maintaining what is known as the SSX Library, a codebase representing all their reverse-engineering and datamining efforts, and is the core of all their tools. This specific project, which was created on November 30th of 2025, was unintentionally fed into Generative AI models without his consent, which is why all the recent recomps and game recreations render and construct the levels nearly flawlessly, but fail to reproduce things like lighting, because it contains so little information about the games' lighting:

https://github.com/GlitcherOG/SSX-Library

Archy has also taken it upon himself to snatch up every rare piece of SSX merchendise and early development build. The recent dumping and releasing of the SSX 3 July Beta build was his work.

If all that wasn't enough, Archy managed to restore SSX 3's original Online functonality through emulation of the original servers. Info for this project has its own dedicated website, which has been on the subreddit's sidebar for a while now:

http://ssxor.org/

If the modding community has made mods, what mods have been made? Apart from the custom tracks I've already shown off, this is a comprehensive list of every mod available via the SSX Mod Manager:

SSX 3 Steve By Archy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fj4AXGjis4

SSX 3 Custom Podium Music By Zenloup

SSX 3 Broken Objects By Archy

Something very important to note is that the SSX modding community has always struggled to maintain its projects due to being very small, leaving all the work to only a few people, therefore they are actively looking for partial or full-time human programmers experienced with languages like C or C++ and reverse-engineers to assist them with reverse-engineering, datamining, and decompilation projects, which include inactive decompilations of the first three games, progress having stagnated due to the lack of contributors:

https://github.com/ssxdecomp/ssx

https://github.com/ssxdecomp/ssxtricky

https://github.com/ssxdecomp/ssx3

Overall, the SSX modding community is a treasure trove of unique and obscure information and tools you really can't find anywhere else, and it's a shame that it gets so little attention. If any of this sounds interesting to you, I've added the link to their Discord server to this subreddit's sidebar.

Note that unlike this subreddit's relaxed rules on the matter, the SSX modding community has strict rules regarding Generative AI, it not being a place to dump recomps and PC ports willy-nilly. It wants to keep contributions to its projects as authentic and human-made as possible, so in the event AI technologies unexpectedly become unavailable, you'd still be able to modify SSX games with high efficiency, as well as PC ports still becoming a possibility. Please respect their wishes.

I can not believe I missed out on these gaming gems for two decades!

When I was younger I loved to play Snowboard Kids, but then the Tony Hawk's series came into my life and had a grip on my childhood and teenage years. I played some Matt Hoffmann's Pro BMX and Shaun White Snowboarding back in the day and eventually picked up Steep in like 2016? But I did not like the more "realistic" approach, as I obviously prefered the more acardy sports games much more.

And so for all these years I completly skipped over the SSX series, thinking it was just another semi-realistic EA-sports series from the early 2000s. Boy was I wrong. I would have loved these games so much as kid! They are right up my alley. I have only played SSX 3 thus far but I already love the artstyle, the character designs, the trick system. Many of the levels are incredibly well designed and hold up so, so well even to this day. I especially adore how many lines the game allows you to ride, even if you seemingly go down a wrong path here and there. The soundtrack is absolutely peak and has a much bigger variation in genre than I would have expected.

I can not describe how much I hate the fact, that I missed out on this amazing series for this long, as I am certain that it would have been one of my staple childhood games back in the day. This might even end up in my top 10 games of all time (something I did not say or think of any game in a very long time). I am looking forward to completing the game now and will probably check out Tricky or On Tour after.

You all loved the last post I made so I thought I’d post them all together in one photo. Also acquired a brand new SSX Tricky beanie to go with my beat up one lol. All of the SSX On Tour stuff is from an EA Korea exclusive event/contest before the game released. The earmuffs on the left are still brand new never opened. Enjoy the photo lol

Did anyone have / made a complete map of the whole map?

There are so many different shortcuts and routes, it would be nice to have a map of all of these somehow

I want to draw Psymon but...

I don't know if there are other artists here, I need some tips. I can't figure about how to draw his hair. I know he has dreadlocks and I drew them before but his ones are very thick. In Tricky he has dreadlocks spikes(????) and in 3 tied up dreadlocks. How should I draw them?

I finished the trick book, without winning an event and retaining the “newbie” title. Was quite nostalgic.

Ssx 3 expanded version when

Okay do you think anyone can do a modding adding ssx tricky characters to ssx 3 including their gameplay move sets and voice. Because I recently saw someone doing that for Tekken 3 emulator on rpcs2 adding Tekken tag 1 characters including the voices and gameplay. Also wasn't ssx 3 early demo literally ssx tricky? Since we already have ssx tricky characters on there as secret characters all we could do is insert the voices and their movesets. I know it won't be easy and although we might not get some cutscenes but maybe their winning victory from ssx tricky. I will definitely try and work on this project if I had a chance imo

Long necks cheat in Tricky

Ages ago when me and my buddy played tricky on ps2 we accidentally activated some cheat when we just pressed a lot of random buttons at a loading screeen and our two riders ended up having crazy long slim necks.

I were never able to replicate it and I haven’t seen anyone write this before. Was it a glitch? Or a very random cheat?

New Reddit now has the sidebar

I am so sorry for not realizing this sooner, but apparently all the way back when New Reddit was introduced, the Old Reddit sidebar wasn't brought over, so this entire time no one has been able to see the rules or the various things that have been linked there.

It now has the sidebar Old Reddit has had since forever. I had no idea!

How does landing works ?

Most of the time, on SSX3, when I engage in high jump and landing on a flat surface i always end losing a lot of speed with a bad landing, is there something to do to get a better landing or is it just mandatory depending on the angle ?
