Question DLC/development question
I've played the game off and on since .4, and have most of the DLCs. I wanted to come back to the game and I see there are a bunch of new ones (all the hunting/wild ones). I'm planning on getting them because they seem cool and I like supporting the game.
Which leads me to ask, how is development going, are they still pumping out content or have they slowed down? I'm okay with a cash grab as long as they are still working on the game a significant amount lol

Yes, they are adding content to the game. Most of the new DLC are skins and you can easy pass on them

There is a hell of a lot of complaining at the moment (like with an aweful lot of games) and there has been a recent influx of YouTubers saying they are quiting (with at least 2 having come back already). Personally, as someone who has played for around 2 years and got just over 2k hours, I like the way the game is. There are updates most months. Most of them seem to have to odd little issue, but there are hotfixes which follow. I personally get a lot of enjoyment out of the game and know a lot of other people do to. I like to try to focus on how I enjoy the game though and not get caught up in a negative mindset. All of the recent DLC's are purely cosmetic (off the top of my head), so if you already have the game, no harm jumping in and seeing how you like it. I think you will find there have been a lot of improvement since you were last on (there have been in the sort time I've been playing).

The only DLC that is a must is the wristwatch, which should have been included to begin with.

most of the new content isn't new but rather reworked old stuff like animals/hunting/birds. all of that we had back during EA and some of it was implemented better too.

Without context hard to say but most things removed from the game were because it tanked performance which while better mechanics maybe if youre in single player could also mean nearly unplayable in multiplayer on a full server when everyone is rubber banding and warping around trying to pvp.

don't think it was related to performance at all. just like animals birds were removed for other reasons.

Yeah performance, why would you remove birds and animals? and how puppets used to spawn? those things were what made it so we couldnt pvp on servers with more than 30 players.. Why do you think birds in rust are shadows that you cant even shoot? because that doesnt drain performance in a big open world sandbox, real birds landing and walking around and doing things on their own is like a little player using up a server slot, every action it does needs to sync up to players on the server so every player sees the bird doing the same thing, it all takes away from the server performance.

it wasn't because of performance. they said why and it was never because of the performance except for puppets.
even if it did somehow impact some PvP weak sauce servers guess what we could adjust animal and even puppet numbers in the server settings. an easy fix that didn't require removing anything and the devs could just work on optimization without resolving to drastic changes meanwhile....

None of it matters if cheaters find you with ESP and kill you through foliage before you can see or hear them

Thankfully I play on an unofficial server that has a really good team watching and I've never encountered cheaters there (so far! :D)

From one of the recent dev posts They conclude it with some info on mod support.
"CONTINUING THE WORK Some issues players have raised for a long time are still in the game. Your reports are one of the things we use to decide where the team should focus next, especially when the same problem keeps coming up. We know puppet spawning remains a frustration for many players, particularly when puppets appear nearby or spawn in areas that have already been cleared. We’re working on changes to that system using the free-roaming wildlife system as a foundation. It's taking time to develop and test, so we’re not attaching it to a particular update yet. We won’t attach a fix or feature to an update until we’re confident it will be ready. That sometimes means having less to say in advance, but we’d rather wait than announce something too early and have to move it later. That includes mod support. It remains part of our longer-term plans, but it won't arrive in 2026. We’ll share more once we’re ready to confirm its scope and timing.
The complete patch notes will arrive with the update on October 5. After that, we’ll be back when the timing and contents of the next update are ready to share. Until then, see you on the Island."
