Question Thanataphobia help!

ROGUE LEGACY 1!

Hey y'all! I've been trying to do thanataphobia for quite some time but I just can't seem to get it!

I've spent countless tens of hours but I'm just not able to do it. I'm able to easily clear Khidr with sir lee, and can usually clear Alexander within the first 3-5 lives with a shinobi. I used to be unable to get Ponce, but I've gotten it for a few runs now.

I try to get 3k-5k gold per run if possible, but it's not always guaranteed due to human mistakes.

I reset my run if I don't get vampirism runes or blood armor pieces within the first 2 lives.

Herodotus is quite tricky and I do try to work to the smallest level on only one slime part at a time, but it doesn't help much since gravs' storm me way too fast. I've only been able to beat him once within the 15 life limit. I always make sure to go in near full-health and always save the statues until I really need them as well as other easy enemies for simple health regains via vampirism if I accidentally tank heavy in a room.

I've only been able to make it to Johannes once, and that was with 12 lives spent. No matter how much I practice, I'm just unable to finish Johannes or Herodotus in time!

I try to get my health to 10, mana to around 7, and attack to 10. Blacksmith pieces I generally do whatever I can max reach and consequently upgrade weight accordingly. Rune-wise, I do the basic sprint and dash, maybe equipping retaliaton if I get it or other ones if I do.

I don't really want to go glitchless and I don't really want to use the cheese method of save scumming by leaving the game, then going to the bonus rooms to get extra health/gold. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

This achievement feels so close yet so far, I'm going insane!!!

Your doing way better than I've ever done and I've probably got 700 hours between Rogue Legacy 1 and 2. It's weird how people can just get it done like it's nothing. Just keep at it and hope the RNG gives you good character rolls.. You can do it if u got that far in it!

Just did a run and I stalled at herodotus for 6 separate descendants. I'm genuinely getting so tilted. This is like my hundreth run or something 😭😭 I've tried hokage, lich king, archmage with timestop, paladin (which was kinda close), but it just never works. Genuinely think I may have to give this one up. Shame, I got 28/29 achievements

I have 500 hours on this game and made a promise to 100% before I start RL2, but at this point, I'm just getting sick at the mention of RL :(

Khidr should be done on Sir Lee (as you said) by playing it safe and down-hitting the top of the eyeball when necessary.

IF you're super skilled then Ponce De Leon can be done on Sir Lee too by pulling it round the edge of the room repeatedly and hitting it as it comes. Ponce De Leon gets harder when you limit yourself to a smaller space - really spread out!

Thanatophobia is early-game play only so prioritise armour and swords instead of base stats. When you have all the armour and swords you want, buy DAMAGE. Health doesn't scale fast enough imo to match with damage. +20 health or kill an enemy (that could deal 70 damage) a hit faster?

A good tip: just dip into areas like the tower or dungeon to see if you can easily access any good loot - if all the rooms given are too hard then just leave.

Honestly, vampirism runes should be prioritised over blood armour (maybe???) but it depends on how skilled you are. Blood armour decreases your stats, obviously, in return for the regen. Concerning runes, have one dash rune and one jump rune. All other runes are effectively pointless unless you wanna use vampirism.

When exploring, enter every room but only for a small moment. You'll just want to know what's in there, be it a potential heal point or another route.

When I did Thanatophobia, i think i only upgraded my manor upwards towards +armour weight and left towards the shinobi. Like you said, Alexander is easier to kill with the Shinobi and its probably the best strat.

For Herodotus, play it slow. Kill one slime, kill the gravisor, repeat. Always aim for the smallest slime when possible, you dont want clutter.

I dont mean to patronise you with some of these tips because I'm sure you know a lot of them but, respectfully, RL1 is about getting to know enemies and practice instead of finding some technique. My best tip would be skipping to exactly 21 minutes on this and seeing what he does to defeat Ponce De Leon as Sir Lee. This explains the technique I spoke of (dragging round the edge of the room) better than I did. If you use this then both Khidr and Ponce De Leon can die before you have once.
