Discussion Watch obsessed
Where do you think this obsession stems from? Is it a dopamine rush? Maybe from reaching a mental achievement by obtaining the next watch?

It's also having the ability to own and use watches from such a different array of manufacturers for such relatives low cost.
The trick being able to be objective and sell ones which do not suit or do not get worn, otherwise it becomes hoarding and not collecting.

I’m personally so impressed by the manufacturing capability of the rep makers and the lower maintenance costs. Not so much in chasing perfection but how they are able to get so close and how by not making a perfect rep they keep ownership costs lower than the real thing. I previously got flamed for asking how much people spend maintaining their watch collection and now that I have reps I see it’s also much cheaper in that aspect too

I think many can agree it’s the value proposition, dopamine hit, and ease of acquisition. You don’t have to wait months or years to get the watch you want. If you don’t like it once it arrives or taste changes you can repost here and move it rather quickly then on to the next one. I would think it’s much harder to sell a gen than a rep. You can turn and burn these things pretty quickly if it’s not your jam when it arrives.

For me, it’s the dopamine hit combined with the value proposition. I just can’t justify paying 10x the price for a genuine when high-end reps get you 95% of the way there. I’d much rather throw that extra cash straight into the S&P 500
