David Flippo says his firing as a financial adviser two years ago was no big deal. “They did an investigation, not just the company, but FINRA, a federal investigation, they looked at all my transactions and everything,” Flippo, the GOP nominee in Nevada’s 2nd congressional district, argued in May. “They found nothing to discipline me for.” Rory McShane, his main campaign consultant, has been even more dismissive, claiming that “brokers and brokerages part ways all the time.”
Previously unreported documents obtained through public records requests provide new detail on Flippo’s 2024 firing by First Command, a company that largely serves military families and veterans. They show that Flippo was accused of making “willful misrepresentations and/or omissions of material fact to establish a client relationship using securities that First Command typically does not accept.” The company then conducted a surprise office visit, determined that he “violated numerous company policies,” and quickly fired him.

Not even in office and already drowning in scandals, lies, and investigations. We don't want Las Vegas's garbage.

If you are voting, I'd encourage you not to vote for Eddie Gomez. He thought he'd be clever and post his political banner perpendicular to a fence for maximum viewing when exiting the freeway at Clear Acre.
The problem? It blocks our view when exiting the neighborhood. This intersection is incredibly dangerous under normal conditions, and this makes it so much worse.
I asked him to move the sign two weeks ago, and he promised he would the next morning. It is still there. I've complained to the city, twice and they keep losing my complaints. Seriously, this is ridiculous.

I feel like every conversation about Reno eventually turns into one of two things: what used to be better, or what the city desperately needs.
Both are fair conversations. But I'm curious about the tiny, completely ordinary things that make this place feel like home.
Not the obligatory Tahoe trip or your favorite restaurant. I'm talking about the stuff that would never make it into a travel guide.
Maybe it's taking the long way home because you know exactly where the sunset looks ridiculous. Maybe it's checking the mountains to see if winter has arrived yet. Or walking along the Truckee for twenty minutes because your brain needs a reset.
I think those little habits say more about a city than any tourism slogan ever could.
You can spend all week complaining about rent, traffic, and construction, then have one random five-minute moment that reminds you why you like living here.
So what's yours?
What's something weirdly specific, maybe even a little boring, that makes you think, "Yep, this is Reno"?
Bonus points if it's free, doesn't require driving to Tahoe, and isn't secretly just another excuse to spend $30.

I’m writing a novel set in Reno, which seemed like a fantastic idea until I realized I’ve never actually been there. Minor oversight on my part.
Planning a long weekend soon to fix that.
I’m looking for the Reno locals actually know. Dive bars, diners, weird little shops, interesting neighborhoods, places with character, and anything that doesn’t involve slot machines.
I’d love to hear what you love about the city, what you hate about it, and what outsiders usually get completely wrong.
And if anyone feels like grabbing a drink or showing a reasonably harmless stranger around, I’m always up for good company and questionable conversation.
Thanks in advance for helping me avoid writing complete bullshit.

I didn't realize until I'd already bought my ticket that Dragon Lights has adopted a bizarre new bag policy. They say they will not allow bags with more than one compartment. Last time I went in 2023 I don't remember any sort of bag restrictions.
When did they change it?
Are they REALLY enforcing this bizarre rule? Like, if I brought a hip pack with a whopping two compartments would they really turn me away?
Literally no bag, purse, anything that I own is "single compartment". I'm not sure if I could even buy a bag to fit that ludicrous requirement.

What is safest place to board a Yorkie or similar toy breed? My Yorkie is 6 lbs. I am interested in personal experiences or observations of boarding facilities in Reno or Carson City that would be a good fit for my Yorkie. I worry about safety and understanding about the frailty of the breed.
Thanks.

I went into a few TCG stores, including anime kingdom trading card games and games galore, as recommendations from last post. However, I can't find any Yugioh player in these stores. Could you guys let me know which days you play and what stores? I play advanced format and I’m planning to play casually, not competitively because my deck is not full real. It would be nice if there were somebody could play with me near UNR campus.

So everybody's getting those letters telling us often incorrectly how often we voted and saying very confusingly that they're sending the report cards to us and our neighbors. Is that intentionally threatening or is it just unfortunately expressed? Also, who the hell is doing this and is it for good or for evil? We've had so much shenanigans in this state with voting by one of the parties that I can only be suspicious as the Republicans have to have laws passed about them regularly to keep them from aging voters off of the pole roles. What are your thoughts? Am I paranoid? ?

If anyone lost some Subaru keys on a carabiner near dorostkar park, across the bridge closer to 4th street, I hung them up on a tree so they’re visible on that trail. I can also send you the location if you need

I was diagnosed with hEDS within the last year and I have been having a hard time figuring out the best way to manage my pain. Of course it’s been something I have dealt with for nearly my entire life and I have tried remedies here and there, but now with an actual diagnosis I was hoping to invest properly into anything like physical therapy/low impact sports. I was talking to one of my doctors about it and she recommended looking into integrative medicine. I have never really considered that, so I am curious if there is anyone else who struggles with chronic pain that has some good experiences or recommendations with integrative practices here in Reno or around the area? Does it make a difference compared to physical therapy?

Hello! I am moving across town and have a one bedroom apartment. I don’t have a ton of heavy furniture it’s mainly boxes, a queen mattress, couch, tv, coffee table and two other “large furniture” items. Who has also moved a one bedroom apartment and how much was your ending cost with said moving company? Thank you!

My mom is in need of her own place to live but she stuck in her ways she thinks $500 is the most she should pay for rent. She cant understand times have change and the cost of living is more expensive in 2026. Any senior living apartments or studio apartments at a decent price she can move into?

Hello all, I know this is a bit early but it randomly popped into my mind. I recently moved here with my family a couple years ago from Flagstaff, Arizona, and when the holidays came around, we would always take a scenic evening drive down to Sedona for their Christmas lights. It was less about seeing the best decorations ever, and just getting out a bit somewhere cozy before the holiday rush. I'd like to do something like that here, are there any suggestions? I'm thinking Grass Valley might scratch that itch, but I'm open to suggestions of anywhere thats really nice!
As a side note, I'm planning on going to Downieville for some of their celebrations with my girlfriend too, I'll update how that goes if anyone cares. Thanks!

Reno area veterans, anyone interested in building a stronger local veteran community?
First, please keep this post respectful. No negativity, politics, or hate toward veterans or anyone who served. The whole point of this post is connection.
I’m a veteran living in the Reno area, and I wanted to reach out to see if there are other veterans around here who are looking for that sense of community again.
One of the hardest things I’ve noticed since getting out is losing that built in network we had while serving. You could be surrounded by people every day, and then suddenly civilian life can feel pretty isolating.
I’ve also seen, and personally experienced, some backlash just for having worn the uniform. Because of that, I usually stay pretty quiet about being a veteran and keep mostly to myself.
I don’t really go out to the VA or veteran facilities just to hang out or meet people. Most of my time right now is spent working graveyard shifts and going to school full time. I’m studying toward becoming a clinical social worker because one day I want to help make a difference in people’s lives, especially when it comes to mental health.
But I also think veterans need each other.
I’d love to connect with other local veterans who might be interested in building something positive here in Reno. Whether that becomes a small community, group chat, occasional meetup, networking circle, resource sharing group, gaming group, gym meetup, coffee meetup, or simply a place where veterans can talk to people who understand.
We could share things like VA resources, employment opportunities, education benefits, mental health resources, local veteran programs, school advice, networking opportunities, or even just check in on each other.
You don’t have to be super outgoing. You don’t have to have everything figured out. You don’t have to talk about your service if you don’t want to.
Sometimes it’s just good knowing there are other people nearby who understand where you came from.
If you’re a veteran in Reno, Sparks, or the surrounding area and this sounds like something you’d be interested in, comment or send me a message.
Let’s chat, connect, share resources, build some friendships, and strengthen each other along the way.
Veterans supporting veterans.

The individuals that linger at the DMV recording and making visitors uncomfortable, you've seen the posts here. Wonder where they will be election day.. and if they seek engagement/conflict with their cameras in faces.
