Discussion Is this anything?

We all know about the "took my heavy heart and made it light" line that gets repeated on MMHMM as a theme of that album. But today I was listening to FANSD and I noticed these lines:

"I'd rather forget and not slow down"

"But I won't go slow, and time can let the mind forget"

"But don't forget the speed that I can go"

Now obviously, the name of the album is Forget and Not Slow Down, so it's no surprise that that's the theme. But I had never noticed that that phrase sort of appears in different forms a couple times later on in the album. And, it occurs in the first track, (approximately) the middle track, and the last song/track. So I'm not so much wondering if it's a hidden theme, but it would be kinda neat if this was done intentionally (or even if it was a coincidence tbh)

So what do you think? Feel free to tell me I'm an idiot for not noticing this 17 years ago lol

It’s a theme. The album is a concept album written around the time he and a fiancé broke up.

Yeah I'm aware of all that. I just hadn't noticed that particular line coming up again in different forms, and I was curious whether people thought it was an intentional motif or just happenstance

I’ve never noticed this, but I’ve only been a fan for about a year and a half

I’m honestly quite jealous, having listened to the band for literally over half my life at this point, I can’t imagine what a breath of fresh air it is to listen to them for the first time now. Congrats, you found a really amazing band!

Relient K hardly feels like a new band to me since I’ve heard all their songs over and over for this past year and a half. But if you’ve been a fan for half your life, im sure it does seem like they are a newer band to me

What would you say are some of your favorite tracks, and two favorite albums?

Favorite album is FANSD. Hard to pick a second. I’ll say mmhmm cuz that’s what everyone says. I don’t need a soul, staples, candlelight are my favorite songs. It’s weird because when I first got into the band, I only liked their punkiest, hardest music, but now I like their power poppy stuff. It’s also quite a juxtaposition from my usual taste. I like grunge, ska, hardcore, and it’s surrounding genres (post hardcore, melodic hardcore, emo, etc) but my two favorite and most influential bands (rk and weezer) tend to lean to poppier music
