Title: I want to get into reading, but I can never seem to find a book I enjoy. Where should I start?
Hello guys! I hope you're all having a great day, incha’Allah.
I've been wanting to get into reading for a long time. I've always had this curiosity and this feeling that I want to read and learn new things, but whenever I actually start a book, I struggle to continue.
Sometimes I find the content too basic or obvious, sometimes I struggle to understand what the author is trying to say, and other times the translation is just bad.
For example, I started reading Make Your Bed and got through around 10 pages before losing interest. I also bought نظرية الفستق (The Pistachio Theory), but I had the same experience. It felt like reading motivational Instagram reels in book form. I've tried a few other books, but so far, nothing has really clicked.
Now I'm wondering: Am I approaching reading the wrong way? Should I push myself to finish books even when I'm not enjoying them, or should I focus on finding books that genuinely interest me?
To be honest, I'm not really interested in reading just for the sake of reading or consuming generic self-improvement advice. I'm more interested in things like stories, science, engineering, technology, and other topics that make me curious and help me understand the world better. I'd also love to get into novels, but I don't know where to start or which ones are actually worth reading.
So I'd really appreciate your advice:
How did you get into reading, and how did you develop the habit?
How do you find books that genuinely interest you?
What books would you recommend for someone like me, especially in science, engineering, technology, or fiction?
Is it normal to struggle with reading at first, or does it simply mean I haven't found the right books yet?
I'd appreciate any recommendations or advice, even if it's something you wish someone had told you when you first started reading.
Thank you, and have a great day!
