Process now or wait?

Grass fed. I had him looking good but he shot up in height and lost a lot of his finish. 30
Months.

Would ya process now, or try bulk up over winter with silage and send him early spring?

Alright, fatten it is. I’ll report back in 30 days.

One of the indicators I look at is the spine between the rear hips and tail if it’s a straight line he could be ready, if it bows down needs more time. Watch him walk and judge. What you want out of the finished product is when you should process. 90/10 to 80/20 if they have to trim to much hanging weight vs meat can be off.

Maybe wait until it’s not staring at you before you start taking out it. That’s just rude.

I woild say about 30 days, tops. You fatten too much and all you are doing is giving the butcher something to trim

That’s a very pretty place. Love the foliage🍂🍁

If I had beef in the freezer, I’d fatten. If I needed beef this fall, I’d have no problem sending in. He’s big enough.

Looks like the Appalachian mountains or foothills to me, but I've been known to be wrong before. Lol

Looks like NW Arkansas or SW Missouri to me. Certainly beautiful, nonetheless.

We only finish ours out for six weeks. If you grain him all winter, youre going to have a lot of fat. Personally, I find the beef best when processed by 24 months. During Covid-19, we had one go to three years because processors were so booked up. It wasn't the greatest beef ever.

30 plus month cow has bone growth and changes the spine. Depending on how your butcher operates you may not beable to get specific steaks.

Local feed lot runs female cows to 30months and slaughters. The steers hit target weight faster. I transport cattle to a butcher shop. I can walk in and tell you exactly what hanging Caracas is grass fed. Fat is very different from grain fed. If it was my cow. It'd be in the freezer already.

Having avoided the death penalty, he has reached the point where he deserves his freedom. Open gate, set him free.
