GAME QUESTION Genuine Question Controller vs Touch Screen

So I’ve seen a few discussions on here before about the differences between touchscreen and controller. Many of you have said that due to recent updates and other circumstances that controller no longer gives you as much of an advantage as it used to. My question is, how would that make sense? Considering a controller would clear up space on your screen so your thumbs wouldn’t have to be partially in the way. Also you only have two thumbs but you have 10 fingers, a controller would make way more sense to be able to do multiple actions at the same time. Am I missing something here, or could it be the average sideswipe player is not really good enough for it to make a difference. I think it’s probably number 2 as I think the average sideswipe player is maybe platinum at best on rocket league. Let me know what yall think though. Also for context I am a GC1 on rocket league.

Most decent+ touch players play with 3 or more fingers. Almost no one above Plat locks themselves out of stall chains just to keep using thumbs only. The main advantage of controller is the finer control of your car due to a 3D joystick for movement and rotation rather than a 2D one. The main advantage of touch is the near zero delay which makes stall chains easier and faster.  Some people try to get the best of both worlds by playing hybrid (left hand on controller for the better joystick, right hand on the screen for the faster response on jump, boost and especially 180 turn) but it gets uncomfortable for your arm after a while, speaking from experience

Ahhh ok so the zero delay is the game changer gotcha. I was thinking there’s gotta be a reason people prefer to use touch screen.

Since launch there’s been many QOL changes for touch players and along with the increasing skill ceiling, having 10 fingers/buttons is unnecessary. It’s actually the opposite of what you said, the players are good enough to the point where it doesn’t matter what they use.

Controllers are generally considered easier to use. Touchscreens have an advantage when it comes to input delay, but of course, it comes down to personal preference and what each person finds easier to use. Technically speaking, touchscreens are better but harder to master, while controllers offer easier and more intuitive control

2 fingers and I grinded to diamond with my duo so I didn’t get carried.

It’s come down to personal preference, I can play both but I’m almost exclusively touch. As a diamond player that uses TWO thumbs to play, its more convenient than carrying around a controller when I wanna play
