Discussion Give me an example of "good" flirting, and an example of "bad" flirting

I have never received a coherent definition of "flirting," despite trying many times. People tell me that lonely men must be doing it poorly, and that sexually successful men must be doing it well, but literally no one can explain what it means.

So, I'm not asking for a definition here. I just want you to give an example of someone flirting well, and an example of someone flirting poorly.

If you're still inclined to use the "It's too complicated to explain..." copout, just don't respond. I'm asking for something very simple here, if you can't give simple examples of "good" and "bad," it's because *you* don't understand what flirting is either.

Debate Being eager is the worst thing a man can do it seems.

Women tend to ridicule and berate you for being overly eager in a relationship and it doesn't matter if she's the one that asked you out. It's just strange to me that in the wake of nonchalant pick up artists and cheating men somehow it's worse to be too into the woman you are dating. Too attentive and ready to be available. It's to the point where it seems like being the opposite is better. I want to say that isn't the case but all experience points to the contrary.

Debate Movember is a microcosm for men's frustrations

Original post is here (can't crosspost): https://np.reddit.com/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates/s/W7v9nyyh8v

Movember has become a good representation of the frustrations that men are facing

Charity was created to help men, particularly in relation to prostate cancer and later mental health

  • It became a men's space and activity that men globally recognised
  • Women wanted to help and be included
  • The foundation allowed women to participate, saying women act as a gateway to for men's health
  • Women were hired by the charity, there was a goal for gender parity through the HeForShe commitment ~49% male, 51% female
  • Women became disproportionately represented in leadership/executive positions (some estimates put executive women at ~70%)
  • Female CEO was appointed
  • Funding was being allocated to things other than prostate cancer through the lense of helping men including:
    • educating women working with men
    • working with UN Women
    • a push for "Healthy masculinities" education
    • suicide prevention and domestic violence programmes, many of which service more women than men

Here we see men's activities or spaces including women, broad equity and social constructs end up benefiting them within the space, the space's original purpose becomes diluted with mission creep and it slowly turns into a shell of what it once was. Reverse any of this and have men within a pro-women's organisation and I can guarantee you there would be an uproar.

Bettina Arndt's substack article from 2025 which shed alot of light on this in first place (which includes a photo of the Movember team at a conference which you should definitely check out)

https://bettinaarndt.substack.com/p/movember-rips-off-mens-health-dollars

P.S. I am aware that the female CEO has left and the executive team is of a different make-up now.

Question For Men What does women being “crazy” or causing “drama” really mean?

I’ve noticed that these terms are very often used by men to describe their current or ex partners while it’s rarely used the other way around. Why is that? And what do those terms really mean to men?

When I think of a crazy person, I think of someone with severe mental illness, insane behavior, or a drug addict screaming in public transport, yet men use this quite losely to describe many women. What do they actually mean by this? Are they all somehow dating the few genuienly crazy people? Or do they call someones behavior crazy to invalidate their side of the story and to avoid their own accountability in the conflict?

Women causing “drama” follows a similar pattern. I’ve heard some men say that “drama” is basically any conflict. Again, is this word use to discredit someone’s behavior or their interests? It seems some men think that a relationship should have no disagreement at all and the woman should simply follow the man’s lead with no complaints. When she dislikes something in the relationship, she should simply shut up and accept being treated poorly to not be “argumentative”.

I’m especially interested why you guys use these words so much when it’s very rarely seen the other way around. Is it to make yourselves feel better about a breakup or make yourselves look better in front of other people. A woman might say “We had some fights around issue x and I didn’t want to stay in the relationship anymore.”, while a man might say “She was crazy and caused so much drama.” to describe the same scenario.

Debate Wanting sx fast, is hookup esque and you should be honest that you want that as it is the right thing to do

A lot of men on here say they don't want to wait for sx in dating and want to have sx fast.

Well if you want sx fast, when you barely know the person (ie after not many dates), that is a hoo.kup. You want pretty much a hoo.kup but are just pretending it is "dating" to get access to the chance of fast free sx.

You should be honest to women that you want sx fast even though you are not in a official relationship and just started dating.

It's best to be honest so you don't waste women's and your own time. A lot of women are not willing to just have sx with every guy they have a couple dates with. You barely know the person.

If that is what you are interested in as a man or woman it is on you to be honest about your desire for fast sx so as to not inadvertently time waste or mislead people who are looking for a serious relationship without fcking around.

My question also to the men that say this is, did you ever actually tell women you date this?

Or do you just date them with the real intention of just getting sex then get mad when they don't have sex and stop dating you?

Debate Men absolutely care about a woman’s career

Idk where this ridiculous myth came from but this idea that a ceo would go to McDonald’s to pick up a woman is ridiculous. Most people filter and date within their economic and educational range. For example I’m devsecops engineer, when I go on dating apps I filter immediately for a bachelors, whether you’re a hookup or a potential gf, I refuse to get with someone that doesn’t have much going on for themselves in life. I think the red pill has exaggerated the dynamics between wealthy men and show girls/escorts in places like Miami and extrapolated that to the general populace. It’s definitely not the norm

Debate Everyone is fickle. It just depends on who they're dating.

I've tried articulating this point before but it usually isn't written with enough time to cover all the points. There won't be any gender shade because everyone does this and it doesn't matter who does it more prominently. People are fickle, they lie, discard and use people and they'll do it to anyone. But they also don't realize or count the times they've done it so they believe “I'd never do that!” that statement is only true if they are infatuated with the person which can change at any time.

Every excuse any of us ever heard from a partner or prospective partner that same person went above and beyond those excuses for people they truly desired. There's no such thing as bad testers, for example. Sure, there are jobs more strict on it or even zero tolerance. But before the day is done I am willing to bet money you could've texted before your shift ended because no matter how strict any job is people be on their phones.

People don't forget you and fall asleep. You decided to deal with them later. If you desire them enough you'll damn near have to remind yourself to sleep and take a break from the high energy and fun of high romantic interest.

I don't need to go down the list. Every excuse you've heard is a lie because people in general break the conventional rules for someone they want. If they don't for you it doesn't have to mean they aren't interested but it is an eyebrow raiser.

Debate Friendships only work for women. Men aren’t wired for friends.

• Upvotes

So as a heterosexual man it’s not that I don’t like men or can’t have male friends but having male friends isn’t enough for me. I need a relationship with women and I prefer female friends. I prefer company of women.

Women don’t like being friends with men. They are okay being fuck biddies with attractive guys. But for friendships they only want women or a token gay dude.

So for those not keeping score.

Men like women more than other men.

Women like women more than men.

Men are expected to approach women.

Women get to be picky about what guys they want.

Now do you see the problem and why guys have more issues with loneliness than women do?

Debate men all have mommy issues

okay this is also an exageration but my argument is that men need for validation from women is more than the other way. extreme one sided. so much that it is like how child follows a mother around. a woman actually told me on here one time actually told me that this is what she thought of mens complaint and yes i did find insulting. but now maybe its true.

i dont know that it is not the same for women their in group bias did not come from nowhere.

i dont have a solution for this. but this is men frustration, society does not care about men always actually means women make men feel invisible. why because of validation.

Debate Men with depth and sense don't want someone who is not on their level.

When there is a large age gap and the woman isn't yet in her 30's, he's either stupid or looking for a partner who he can mainpulate.

Men don't get better with age just by existing. Making more money barely adds a tiny bit of value. And only when paired with being able to value a woman's personality beyond what she does for you.

Women don't lose value just by existing. Looking less youthful barely diminishes one's value and is entirely offset by wisdom and capability to anyone who is looking for a true partner and friend.

Edited to add. People are asking what I mean by value. I'm not an evolutionary biology bro. Yes we have instincts, but I have a fully developed prefrontal cortex and I dont subscribe to the opinion that the monkey brain can and should be the decider of relationships. Monkey brain factors in but people who think monkey brain is everything tend to have a transactional view of relationships. I'll pass on the dutiful wife bit, lol. Many awesome women pass on the transactional type of dating. Frankly it's gross. I believe in reciprocity, friendship, and being on a team with a partner. I don't believe in being a fuckable dependent, or bangmaid.

Question For Women Would you be honest if hubby was the less attractive dude you "gave a chance" to?

Every now and then there's posts discussing how some guys have to put in way more effort to court a guy while other guys can do the bare minimum or barely anything and the same woman will hop on his dick in record time. Then there's always at least one woman in the comments who says, "well duh, of course we treat men differently based on attraction."

This question goes out to those women since I assume they didn't really understand what admitted that ultimately means. If you admit that some men have to work harder to court you because you're less attracted to them, what exactly happens if you don't end up with the guy who did the bare minimum and instead end up in a relationship or married to one of the guys who did the most? Would you ever at any point be comfortable revealing the truth to hubby, that he's essentially a Betabuxx who had to prove he was worth your time when other men didn't? And how do you think his reaction will be to that revelation?

FYI: Apparently this needs to be specified but saying you have less attraction towards one person compared to another person is not the same as claiming you have zero attraction towards that person. So can people stop spamming the comments claiming I said women are marrying guys they have no attraction to whatsoever, when I never at any point made such a claim? Thanks 👍

Debate Once a woman raises her standards, she is screwed and she can’t bring them back down

You start off with your baseline standard, the ones you personally have.

That’s all good.

Then you start becoming influenced by others around you or on the internet, and then you begin to raise your standards.

To make things worse you buy into the idea that you need to have high standards, the highest you can possibly think of. It doesn’t cost you anything. To have high standards you only have to declare it. Now what you would have been satisfied with are no longer satisfactory.

You effectively reduced the chances of finding a guy you’ll be happy with.

To make matters worse for yourself, you start aiming for the best guy available. If you manage to end up with the best guy, and it doesn’t work out, you convince yourself that if the best turns out like this, then every other guy lower, by your standards, are not good enough for you. You need same or higher levels, similar to how someone addicted to drugs finds it hard to readjust. Once the best guy has wronged you, it feels like “where are the good men”

There are problems with aiming for the best, and this applies to many things in general. When you aim for the best, you must also aim to be the best, and actually work towards it. You cannot evaluate something so much more better than you. A woman might not have that incentive to put in the work. If you obtain validation that makes you feel like the best from the men you don’t want, do you don’t have to do anything, you are convinced you are the best, and that a top guy will see you as such

When they don’t, you find that you can’t reduce your high standards. It’ll feel like you are settling or loosing out. And the loss aversion principle guarantees you’ll find it hard to be happy with anyone lower than your high standards.

So is it bad to have high standards? Yes, if you yourself don’t meet those standards, if you think the validations takes the place of hard work, if you think just your existence is suffering. But if you work on yourself to the same level to which you raise your standards, then having high standards is good.

Having high standards by itself is not going to help you, in fact it’ll make things worse, it’ll limit your options and you won’t be able to bring it back down. That’s how you end up saying “all men are …”, and with the weird pride of dying alone, as long as you have your community

At the point you raise up your standards, you might not realize the downstream effects and how you might be screwing yourself over, going with what’s popular

Discussion how has your dating strategy worked out for you?

no matter what your strategy or approach is i’m curious for everyone and just have some questions

to throw my own in there my strategy is to wait until i find inspiration xD and see if i ever vibe with somebody, but im very happy and content being single so basically im just wait and see :p

1) are you satisfied in your dating / life? are your needs being met?

2) do you enjoy the quality of partners you have been with?

3) do you think your point of view is the best way to do things?

4) did something in particular happen to make you feel the way you do?

5) have you ever changed your stance? such as red pill -> blue pill or vice versa

6) how much do you believe in this “pill” stuff as in, do you think it applies to everyone?

7) what are the qualities you desire in a partner? what qualities do you need, and which ones would just be nice but not necessary?

8) are you having fun dating/ enjoying yourself?

9) do you have any advice you’d like to give everyone?

if you take the time to answer, thank you!

Question For Women Has progressive culture encouraged genuine social awareness, or has parts of it devolved into a status game where people compete to demonstrate how morally enlightened they are? And has the backlash against that culture made public discourse worse by encouraging people to become provocative?

I think a lot of what passes for modern political activism, particularly in online progressive circles, is just people looking for a sense of belonging and moral superiority rather than genuinely caring about the issues they claim to champion.

Obviously, not everyone is like this, and there are plenty of people who sincerely care about social justice. But I've encountered enough people who seem more interested in polishing their public image than actually doing anything useful to become pretty cynical about the whole thing.

You have the champagne socialists who disavow their own perceived privilege for social approval, the self-appointed white saviors who treat disadvantaged people like props for their own moral performance, and the people who make grand promises on behalf of communities they barely understand. They seem to relish the attention and validation they receive for their supposed sympathies, regardless of whether their politics ever produce anything tangible.

At some point, you have to wonder how many of these people actually vote, participate in their communities, or do anything beyond arguing on social media. For some, political identity seems less like a commitment to improving society and more like an online subculture they use to feel important, rebellious, and accepted.

What makes it worse is the growing obsession with policing language. People have apparently forgotten that context, intent, and the relationship between the people involved actually matter. Calling your friend an offensive name as part of an established joking dynamic is not automatically equivalent to directing the same language at a stranger to humiliate or discriminate against them. There is a difference between a crass joke and genuine bigotry, and pretending otherwise makes it harder to have an honest conversation about either.

That doesn't mean words can never hurt anyone or that intent magically erases impact. It means we should be capable of distinguishing between situations instead of treating every offensive word as evidence of someone's moral character.

There is also a time and place for everything. I can speak differently with my friends on Discord than I would with colleagues on Slack. Knowing how to code-switch and read a room is part of being a functioning adult. You can think someone's joke is stupid or inappropriate without turning it into a moral crusade.

Ironically, I think the constant outrage has sometimes produced the opposite of what it intended. People who previously understood that certain language was inappropriate in particular settings are now deliberately using it to provoke the very people they believe are overreacting. What might once have been an ordinary crude joke becomes an act of defiance. People become petty, resentment builds, and everyone ends up more hostile toward one another.

Meanwhile, some of the loudest online activists seem to have an almost fantastical understanding of how society works. They assume their opinions represent the silent majority, reduce complicated economic and political questions to simplistic narratives about good people versus bad people, and treat anyone who disagrees with them as either malicious or hopelessly brainwashed.

Eventually, some people grow up, enter different social environments, build careers, and encounter perspectives outside their online circles. They discover that people have competing interests, that economic policies have trade-offs, that not everyone with wealth is living extravagantly, and that real life is considerably more complicated than the ideological caricatures they encountered online. Others never move beyond the same arguments, becoming increasingly entrenched in communities where disagreement is treated as proof of moral failure.

Of course, none of this means that every progressive is performative, every stereotype is accurate, or every unpopular opinion is secretly correct. There are genuine bigots, legitimate reasons to challenge harmful rhetoric, and real structural problems that deserve serious attention.

But I think there is a distinction between caring about an issue and performing concern about it, just as there is a distinction between holding people accountable and compulsively policing everyone around you.

I'm interested in hearing perspectives from both sides, particularly from people who have changed their views after spending time outside their online political bubbles.

Debate Men don't always lie about intentions, a lot of the time women just got disqualified

I think the common saying about men lying about intentions is just how women deal with rejection since clearly women can not handle any sort of rejection.

Rather than just saying "I need to work on myself", they immediately assume they're perfect and that something is wrong with the guy.

But in my personal case and most of my close make friends case, the women just didn't make the cut. There was no need to pursue further. They did something to turn the guy off, push him away, or just in general make him disinterested.

I know it's hard to swallow but not every woman is meant for every man.

Debate Access to consent and bodily autonomy are not equivalent to legalisation of financial independence and parity

Commonly advocated rhetoric here includes discussion of a perceived disparity in "social freedom" and gender relations, especially in the context of increased women's rights, primarily in the Western world over the last century. The overarching idea is that feminism has led to increased "wins" for women, granting them more economic and professional independence; this has "disrupted the social balance", where women have made gains, but men have not made similar 'gains in the social world'. Men were the arbiters of finances and security, and women were the arbiters of intimacy and child-rearing.

There is a lot of legitimate discussion that can be had about the validity of gender roles, or lack thereof, and how we navigate social roles and purpose in a rapidly changing world. However, this discussion, at least on this sub, often devolves into asinine and often dangerous rhetoric that suggests 'parity' must be reached, by granting men more leniency in the social sphere.

Certainly, there are very serious and valid points people bring up with respect to increased social isolation and a stubbornness in male social roles; demanding or playing Devil's Advocate and suggesting that women must violate their own bodily autonomy and consent to "make things equal" os not a valid argument. It's incredibly dangerous and must be criticised at all times.

Women having more financial independence does not impede the consent and bodily autonomy of men. Women having flourishing careers does not violate men's rights. Women having greater freedom to choose how to live their lives is not a negative, these points shouldn't have to be re-iterated in the First World in the 21st century.

Question For Women What would you do if you were the last man on Earth?

Such a situation could only really result from a near apocalyptic event, but let's say that in this scenario some semblance of human civilization survives. And let's consider two versions of this:

Scenario 1): There are still primitive governments, militaries, judicial systems, hospitals, etc. None of these societies are especially advanced, certainly none are comparable to any modern nations in terms of their technology, quality of life, and overall level of trust. Maybe the best of the countries in this scenario compare to some of the least developed nations that exist today (excluding war zones).

Scenario 2): There are several societies that resemble modern Western ones culturally, civically, and technologically, aside from the complete absence of any men (and I suppose there would also be far fewer children). These societies also have the technology to continue procreation artificially if they want to.

If you just choose to try and live off-grid: it will be easier to isolate yourself from society, avoid detection, and try and live off-grid in Scenario 1, but actually surviving off-grid in Scenario 1 is brutally difficult. Surviving off-grid in Scenario 2 will be easier, but you are also much more likely to be noticed.

Debate CMV: Ghosting is a part of raep culture

https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTfqaBkBD/

In this clip, a woman explains in detail how ghosting is essentially a part of RC... and it got me to thinking... A lot of guys know ahead of time whether or not they want to commit to you long term but they keep this information private until after the ACT. If a man is duplicitous in trying to get laid, his victim cannot REALLY consent can she? They call it informed consent because being informed is literally a prerequisite. So... It follows logically that:

  1. Consent is invalid if it's not informed consent

  2. If the person is deceiving you, you didn't have the information you need to properly consent

  3. Sex without consent is raep

If you think otherwise, then which point above do you disagree with? 1, 2, or 3?

DISCLAIMER: Not all men/women etc

Question For Women You call a man "male" and he simply agrees. You call a woman "female" and suddenly there's a problem. Why is that?

Saw a twitter post online about a woman saying she's gonna go around calling men males. And men just agreed.

Someone made an interesting meme (mega brutal ratio in the quote retweets btw) about a woman calling men males and men just agreeing and a man calling women females and them getting mad.

I want to know why that is. Why does this binary exist despite it literally being the same term?

Debate Women Should Share the Same Responsibility to Chase in Modern Dating

Now that men and women have equal rights in most 1st world countries (I know some people will disagree with that) and the same opportunities to earn the same money, women don't really "need" men the way they used to. So shouldn't chasing and flirting be an equal responsibility too?

What I don't get is this: a woman can be fully independent, have her own place, and make great money (sometimes more than the guys asking her out), but still expect the man to approach, ask her out, and do most of the work. Why? If dating roles have evened out, why are men still expected to make the first move most of the time?

We've been getting rid of a lot of traditional expectations on women, like staying a virgin until marriage and purity culture in general. Shouldn't we be ditching the traditional expectations on men too?

Question For Women Subconscious patriarchy?

Do women have a subconscious belief that men ought to provide for them and if so is this reinforcement to the idea of patriarchy- that men are to provide for women?

As an example: If men begin to withdraw more and more from society even in small ways such as refusing to socialize at work- preferring instead to be professionally aloof, is this an indication that women believe men SHOULD provide attention or assistance to women?
