Overpayment due?
Left the prison service two months ago, Been sent a letter to say I owe £800+ all pay slips add up apart from one where I worked a full month and should’ve had that wage anyway. Anyone been in the similar position? Has gone to investigation now

I’m pretty sure I requested the SOPHR177 from SSCL

Be prepared for lots of email chains, they’re not the easiest to get things sorted with!

I read this as you were an inmate initially. I was like oh prison jobs pay well.

Happened to me, I took my 50-ish hours of annual leave before my end date but they also paid me for it by mistake. They also calculated it wrong and said I owed them about £2000 more than I did.
Took a lot of back and forth with them and my old manager to see that they incorrectly put about 150 hours on the SOPHR177 form instead of the correct amount. Luckily I had a saved email from the duties team with the correct amount. This was nearly a year before I got it sorted.
I then had to pay back the £900 or so over a year.
I then received more correspondence from them saying somebody had taken over the case and I still owed £2000. Provided the email chains and that changed to £20 final payment. This was over 3 years after leaving.
I’m still expecting to randomly get another email at some point.
I’d recommend asking for a copy of the SOPHR177 (assuming this is still the process they use). It’ll show what numbers leave/Toil balances were submitted by your line manager when you left.
