It’s not about politics anymore, it’s about morality.

14

u/funkymunkPDX 4d ago

I don't do politics but am super mad about my local roads, school funding and housing costs

Real estate folks sure spend a lot of money on politicians.

9

u/Several_Razzmatazz51 4d ago

I thought “I don’t do politics” was the answer MAGA men give when asked by a woman they are interested in. Because they know a truthful answer would blow them out of the water.

1

u/datguyxd69 2d ago

People say they dont do politics when a manipulative person is trying to abuse them for their beliefs.

2

u/FlamingDixie 1d ago

For what beliefs?

1

u/datguyxd69 1d ago

They dont even need to know your beliefs. Their demons come out if they find out who youve voted for. Or even less. I suppose envy just makes some people behave as demons

2

u/FlamingDixie 1d ago

Well there are a variety of reasons why someone would have voted for Trump, for example, and plenty enough of them are things many consider wrong on moral grounds. Without elaboration, people will fill in the gaps and make assumptions. Some people voted for Trump because of his economic promises, while others genuinely voted for him because they're racist and believed his policies would harm minority groups. Politics and morality have become deeply entwined, especially in the USA. When you don't elaborate, or don't elaborate enough, people will wonder what you are trying to hide morally.

When does envy come into play?

1

u/Several_Razzmatazz51 1d ago

Found the MAGA!

1

u/azorgi01 23h ago

And you just defended that persons POV, good job.

1

u/melanatedalbino 1d ago

What they described happens all the time lol. In fact, you just did it 🫠.

8

u/Fateful_Grape 1d ago

Equally annoying are those that think consuming a bunch of content equals “informed”. Somehow they do all this research and have no original thoughts

3

u/Nick0414 19h ago

All my info comes from reddit. Im so informed. Ive never learned or read a book about political systems, I just learn from reddit because reddit is full of intellectuals.... /s

2

u/melanatedalbino 1d ago

Lol agreed with the first part wholeheartedly. For the second, the people you're describing actually do very little research, generally.

2

u/thuswesmite 1d ago edited 1d ago

Read “the enigma of reason” by Sperber and Mercier. Loads of studies.

One of the most interesting was comparing highly informed and low-informed voters. Each side was asked to think of their side and the opposite sides reasons for their view.

Low informed voters got a handful.

The highly informed? Zero.

They were at the peak of reasoning.

So basically if you think you’re well read on a topic, you’re just completely missing out on someone else’s complete read on the topic - the opposite way.

If our pride and bias didn’t hamstring us, we’d ideally have those informed people talk it out to get to the truth - they have all the reasons for each side, together.

Instead, we put the other down thinking they know nothing, because after all, we have all the reasons for our side, that we thoroughly checked (in our biased brains). We say they didn’t research. The truth is, they just didn’t do OUR research.

Truly an awesome book. I had to put it down to walk about and think several times, it’s like looking at the matrix code and beginning to understand it.

1

u/Fateful_Grape 1d ago

Thank you for the recommendation and the synopsis I might pick it up

1

u/ComfortableCraft3592 20h ago

This!

But the retort is always "BoTh SiDeS ArEnt The SaMe" 🙄 or some bollucks.

If people give the other side a fair view then they have to stop demonizing them and they don't get to feel so superior.

It's the same way a good cure for racism is actually traveling and meeting other races.

2

u/PhilosophyThug 14h ago

"informed" means reading Reddit comments and regurgitating them... Upboats to the left le Reddit army

1

u/RequirementNo2161 21h ago

People educated on TikTok are the most misinformed and proud about it people

1

u/Suspicious_Sense1272 7h ago

You mean research doesn’t mean regurgitating what you read? Whaaaaaaa?/s

0

u/Mimamomamimamo 1d ago

Not equally, but yeah

7

u/Key-Dare8686 3d ago

Politics can be non religious people’s religion.

2

u/Wolfatthedoor11b 3d ago

And usually is.

1

u/Material-Reason2636 2d ago

No… Religion requires worship and blind subservience to a higher power. I understand the urge for religious people to find what non religious people worship. Truth is a lot of us don’t need that in our lives and actively choose to cut it out. That blind subservient aspect leads to too much abuse.

1

u/WishboneOk305 2d ago

No it doesn't there's various level of religion

1

u/Material-Reason2636 2d ago

Name me the religion that allows you to not believe in a higher power and questioning its existence is acceptable?

1

u/Unlucky_One4692 1d ago

Religion is quite literally built on faith which is baseless belief.

1

u/Strange-Dentist8162 2d ago

No it doesn’t…

1

u/Material-Reason2636 2d ago

What religion does not require belief in a higher power? I found asking questions was not great for my standing in a church.

1

u/Strange-Dentist8162 2d ago

Read what I replied to

1

u/dalaiberry 2d ago

I see a lot of blind subservience to leftism/progressivism/Marxism in politics now a days

2

u/Material-Reason2636 1d ago

The left in fights all the time. Hassan compared to Bill Maher is a good example of this.

1

u/Lost-on-Reception 2d ago

Brother. We can see your politics. Blind subservience is what you do.

1

u/Material-Reason2636 1d ago

Democrats don’t like trans, Newsom is set to be the next leader and calls them weird. Who am I subservient to?

6

u/Icyknightmare 4d ago

But Politics does you, whether you like it or not.

1

u/corekt_the_record 22h ago

Not as much as Reddit would have you think

1

u/Dry_Celebration_1172 11h ago

This is your logic.

5

u/LateNightCoffeeShop 1d ago

Yeah but if your politics disagree with theirs then suddenly its the wrong kind of being political

-3

u/Brightest_Lantern 1d ago

Well, yeh. I do think it's wrong to support child abusers and Genocide.

3

u/LateNightCoffeeShop 1d ago

Can't say i support either of those things tbf

1

u/rmzgrimes 13h ago

So, you're saying you're political?

-3

u/Brightest_Lantern 1d ago

Wasent trying to imply you did. Your comment to me read as dismissive. And I feel like somethings in life should be taken seriously.

1

u/shepherdshook 1d ago

Kind of what they were saying in the first comment.

2

u/Glad_Click9998 1d ago

aaaaaaaaaaand case and point.

1

u/Interesting_Life249 15h ago

so you vote third party? because both democrats and republicans are like that

9

u/BruteUnicorn134 1d ago

So me painting miniatures and tinkering with electronics is political somehow?

4

u/tehspicypurrito 1d ago

Given there are op-ed pieces about drinking coffee and milk being white supremacy from New York Times, I’m sure some asshole somewhere has decided our hobby is white supremacy.

2

u/dbnrdaily 1d ago

That "asshole" just has a higher level of awareness than you and actually EDUCATES themselves, the fact that you cant wrap your head around that just further emphasizes how blind you are to your own privelage. Its been extensivly documented that the Nazis painted minifigs during the height of the third reicht. Do better.

0

u/retardedgreenlizard 1d ago

Bro that /s is single-handedly saving your ass

2

u/Bulky_Salary_2519 1d ago

I mean, the fact you can do that and don’t have to work 80hrs a week in a coal mine comes from older political advancements

1

u/retardedgreenlizard 1d ago

Scientific actually

1

u/4armsgood2armsbad 1d ago

Uh, no. Research the history of the us labor movement. Labor laws are written in blood

1

u/Interesting_Life249 15h ago

lets agree to both. thanks to tech half of the population doesn't have to be farmers, thanks to laws we aren't doing doube shift in ball crushing factory

1

u/Seanrocks30 1d ago

The politics of the way the materials are accrued and made available to you, but I digress. Thats like, background politics, less the action itself being political

1

u/SnooApples7213 1d ago edited 1d ago

We dont get to afford or have time for hobbies if our governments arent looking out for our best interests.

That paint is free of toxic pigments and dyes because of hard fought for government regulation.

You painting and tinkering may not be political in and of itself but the point is, if we don't care about or engage in politics, all of these nice 'non political' things that we take for granted can end up being taken away from us. When regulations and protections are eroded, it hurts everyone in a million tiny ways.

Thats what is meant by 'everything is political', because politics affects everything and everyone.

1

u/Different_Brother562 1d ago

Yes pick a side!!!! Can’t paint without your tribal wars.

😆

0

u/rmzgrimes 14h ago

Do the sides just stop existing if you ignore them? Do women get bodily autonomy back? How about ICE?

1

u/nramos33 9h ago

Tinkering with electronics is political. It speaks to right to repair laws and access to replacement parts. Manufacturers often shut people out of being able to repair their own devices.

As for painting miniatures, what paint you have access to and allowable carcinogens in the paint is political. Would you want a paint that is cancerous? Because there are paint companies who absolutely will sell you toxic paint if they aren’t restricted.

Also, for miniatures, we can get into copyright and licensing laws that shutdown people from making 3D scans and posting them online for 3D printers so people can print their own miniatures.

0

u/dr_rocksos_emporium 1d ago

Dude. I’m with you. I just want games workshop to lower their prices on Warhammer minis. I don’t care about any of this other garbage.

3

u/4armsgood2armsbad 1d ago

It is truly a blessing to be so free from hardship that you can be so small minded, no pun intended

Edit: I take that back. Living in the lap of luxury is half the battle. Being so egregiously self centered that you dont care about the suffering of anyone or anything else is also required

1

u/RequirementNo2161 21h ago

The only self centred one here is you. Grow tf up

1

u/dr_rocksos_emporium 20h ago

Oh I care. But what exactly do you want me to do about it? I have my own family to worry about and focus on. And maybe, just maybe, if everyone just focused on the things they could actually change things would get better.

1

u/NotAgain801 19h ago

But what exactly do you want me to do about it?

Run for a local office.

1

u/Significant-Click335 14h ago

He wants you to vote his way! Of course.

1

u/rmzgrimes 13h ago

All I want you to do is vote.

1

u/Femboy_Susie 12h ago

The price of minis directly correlates to the economy which, believe it or not, is politics

1

u/dr_rocksos_emporium 11h ago

Get out of here. Everything relates to politics with you people. Literally everything. Bunch of doomers all cranking each other off by thinking the way you do. I get it, imports on minis rise due to inflation and trade because our government can’t govern correctly. But Jesus Christ I don’t want to hear about it every 5 seconds.

1

u/Femboy_Susie 10h ago

That's because the vast majority of consumption does relate to politics! And for some of us our very lives do, we don't have the privilege to just ignore it and do hobbies. I cannot engage in the same hobby you do without being exposed to bigotry and hatred just for being who I am. My mere existence is political. So yeah, I want people in the hobby to get involved and call this behavior out instead of just not picking a side bc they "dont do politics".

There is also huge swathe of nuance between "I don't do politics" and "constantly talking about politics"

no one's saying you have to do politics 24/7. Idk where you get the "doomer" idea from either, commenting on the state of the world is not being a "doomer". Being a doomer is sticking your head in the sand and saying "there's nothing I can do about it". We are actively trying to improve our situation and make things better, that's the opposite of being a doomer.

And to that end, no one is actually "forcing" anything on you. You can block and ignore people who annoy you, there are plenty of apolitical forums and places to discuss the hobby. The majority of said hobby takes place in your own home or a game store idk how you'd be forced into politics there. If you get mad just seeing people bring it up that speaks more of your own issues than anything about them.

4

u/silent_b 14h ago

This is essentially “I don’t want to argue with strangers” vs “I want to argue with strangers”

1

u/BigMoneyBiggerWomen 14h ago

Yeah its literally "I dont want to discuss politics with you"

I tell people who are on the same side as me that im not into politics because I know they have a social media level understanding of politics and it would just end up being frustrating

6

u/SnooDoggos5226 4d ago

If that’s all you have to discuss you live a truly worthless and meaningless life

3

u/Embarrassed-Rise-588 3d ago

Don't forget miserable 😉

3

u/IjetFBW0001 2d ago

Fine, let's rephrase that. "I dont care."
Especially for your politics

3

u/THRlLL-HO 1d ago

Reddit is hilarious. One minute, people are mocking those who make politics their entire personality, calling them cult members. The next, they’re calling you an ignorant idiot if you don’t dedicate your entire life to politics. Apparently, making politics your entire identity is both pathetic and mandatory, depending on which argument they’re trying to make

0

u/Brightest_Lantern 1d ago

You keep referring to Reddit as if it's a singular person, instead of millions of people with millions of different of opinions, at different times of day.

2

u/THRlLL-HO 1d ago

“You keep referring to Reddit as if it’s a singular person”

Except that never happened

1

u/Brightest_Lantern 1d ago

Fair enough. I jumped the gun with my wording. Still, I feel my point stands.

1

u/Conspicuous-Person 12h ago

Different opinions, yeah sure in certain nooks and crannies of it. Most of reddit is echo chambers.

5

u/Illustrious-Guava-52 3d ago

Its exhausting…when did poltics become everyones religion?

1

u/flappysack- 3d ago

When QE is done it raises asset values, which feed into wealth inequality, and rises the price of goods.  Everyone is fighting about how the other side caused it, when neither side can actually print money, so neither are actually responsible.

This is how the New Deal came to be, then Reagonomics developed, and many similar occurrences in history.  So clearly Bitcoin is the best religion.

1

u/datguyxd69 2d ago

When people couldnt stop comparing themselves to others on social media

-2

u/passionatebreeder 3d ago

Not everyone's religion, just leftists, and they want to use the government to force everyone into conversion

3

u/Spakr-Herknungr 3d ago

Leftists: wow, these policies are objectively bad

Rightists: why are you using government to force people into conversation?

I dont know a single overly-political person, anymore. But when I did, those people were literally the most unhinged people with personal lives that were absolute shiyt shows.

They took a huge nosedive after 2016 and it got 100x worse

2

u/SSFlyingKiwi 1d ago

I wish. A couple of gays from my old group became peak woke and I swear to Christ the dinners we used to have got wild. Last time I caught up with them brought up the topic of racism SEVEN TIMES IN TWO HOURS! And dunked on white people twice - and he’s a white albino!

Politicians are the ones who at least informed what they are doing

9

u/Intelligent-Band-852 4d ago

I mean no nature isn’t political, my relationship with my family and cat isn’t either etc. etc.. There is more information available now then ever before and people are completely overwhelmed and it serves little purpose. The human mind wasn’t meant to comprehend or digest instant worldwide news and doom scrolling. And everyone is ignoring something going on in this world it’s impossible not to, constantly checking the news isn’t helping anyone including your own psyche. We are all completely uninformed, making everything political gives you the illusion of being informed but it’s a facade. The Socratic paradox states that a wise person knows they know nothing this applies here.

8

u/VoidKnight_00 4d ago

Nature, and family relations are absolutely political. You just happen to be fortunate enough to have to privilege of not caring. What about the people who live in horrifically polluted cities and drink from toxic rivers? What about people who are torn from their families because of the color of their skin? Everything is political

1

u/Intelligent-Band-852 4d ago

It still doesn’t make things naturally or by default political, social situations and political ones aren’t mutually exclusive. Politics is a synthetic construct not created by nature, sure you can view everything in a political lens but that will only leave out details. If you want to think so cynically it’s your choice but I refuse to give politicians such power. By making everything political you are minimizing actual suffering and turning politics into a generic term.

5

u/VoidKnight_00 4d ago

I mean, you're wrong, but whatever. Keep living in delulu land where personal responsibility reigns supreme and matters more than the systems that directly affect millions

2

u/WalkMan1615 4d ago

The other person is being needlessly rude to you but you are still incorrect.

Politics doesn’t cease to exist in the social realm when I’m alone with my wife. She carries certain weight on how she should act and I do too for myself.

Even nature has politics, many animal colonies have political systems - much simpler than ours, but they exist. Not to mention the more direct argument that all political systems impact how the natural world behaves.

I appreciate your perspective but it’s just not true, everything is political.

0

u/RequirementNo2161 21h ago

Doughnuts are so political

5

u/1stEldenPinWorm 4d ago

Not to be that person, but nature is political global warming for one. How to care for national parks, upkeep of public parks, expansion of agricultural areas, etc. It's usually not stuff talked about much w/politicians, as there tend to be bigger issues at hand, but they still have a hand in nature.

2

u/Intelligent-Band-852 4d ago

My relationship with nature isn’t political, absolutely man has an effect on the environment but that exists outside of politics.

→ More replies (6)

1

u/MagneticGenetics 1d ago edited 1d ago

I've stopped caring about global warming because it's become nothing more than a buzzword. If it were real we would see legitimate support for Climate Imperialism where high pollution states are forced to stop by any means nessessary. No ones puts in much effort into doing this though.

Instead, despite 50 years of the world is about to end deadlines being missed, the primary effort still seems to be using climate change to raise money in highly fraudulent emissions credit tax schemes.

Im not saying global warming isnt real. I'm saying not even the people running on that issue seem to actually give two shits after they use it to get into office.

3

u/sneezesquirrel 4d ago

Absolutely! Politics are about how we relate to our government. That’s it. It’s part of life, but shouldn’t be your whole personality. Many people are ignoring their own lives because they get caught up in what the government is up to. It’s sad.

1

u/Intelligent-Band-852 4d ago

Yes, I completely agree, the irony is that people hyper focused on politics eventually burn out and become more apathetic. I learned a long time ago that I can’t save the world and have no control beyond my immediate surroundings and even those are often beyond my grasp. I think for many making politics their entire lives it’s a control issue and not always a social justice thing.

2

I don't think 'baby girl' in this context is necessarily uninformed; it could be that she wants to be careful before she expresses a potentially inflammatory opinion.

2

u/Ok_Helicopter3910 1d ago

The older I get the more I realize that theres a lot of truth to the saying "ignorance is bliss"

2

u/ojncereal 1d ago

I just don’t to hear your deranged opinions on Trump in a situation that doesn’t call for it.

1

u/Brightest_Lantern 1d ago

Define deranged?

5

u/Dinklemeier 1d ago

Deranged or reasonable. Why do you need to bring up how much you hate him when your milk expired yesterday or your car needs an oil change?

0

u/Brightest_Lantern 1d ago

I can only speak for myself. Everything he does affects us one way or another, we will be feeling his impact on our lives for decades. And I feel that, if I keep silent, I am part of the problem.

I get not wanting to hear at every turn. And I don't have a solution.

2

u/Dinklemeier 1d ago

I have what I feel is a reasonable solution. Don't bring up politics every time the ncaa final 4 goes on television, or when the forecast calls for a sunny day. Or when Disneyland opens a new ride. How about you bring up politics when you're watching a political debate, or a political show, or it's time to vote and the topic of voting comes up, or uncle Donald comes to town or any other number of political oriented things occurs. This is like my divorcing friend who physically cannot stop himself from bringing up his ex wife into every topic.

1

u/Ok-Description7073 1d ago

Lmao the government of your state and even your city affect your daily life significantly more

2

u/signal__noise- 1d ago

Its not healthy to look at everything through the lens of politics.

It's like everything is science too but if your friend is telling you a sad story about their day and you start talking about how the neurons in her brain are firing and that she didn't take a walk the day before to build up dopamine... You're not going to be friends long.

0

u/hiimjustapersonhaha 1d ago

Also, not everything is science lol

2

u/PeculiarSpiralGalaxy 1d ago

4

"Everything is political" is the mantra of the terminally online.

Go out into reality and the vast majority of average people don't give a shit about anything other than where they're getting their next meal or what time the next show is starting.

People in general are complacent. Do I have air conditioning? Do I have a roof of some kind over my head? Do I have chicken nuggets and Faygo in the fridge? Do I have the latest video game? Have I seen the latest movie?

You start waxing political to the average person, they might tell you their barely informed opinion about it, but they aren't actually thinking about anything through any kind of political lens.

Everything is not political. Your entire personality is political. There's a huge difference.

“Everything is political” mfs writing an essay with 12 peer reviewed sources on why they should be allowed to post about American politics on a subreddit about taking care of your pet snake:

2

u/tnj3d1 4d ago

When I say "I don't do politics" its not because I am uninformed, its because I know the person I am talking to will take exception to my political beliefs and I would rather get on with my day without arguing with someone who will not change their mind based on what I say.

2

u/Ayma_sudonym 4d ago

I've found that what is actually meant by people who say "everything is political", is that they will MAKE everything political as an excuse to bring their preferred political ideology into an otherwise apolitical subject.

2

u/Sexy-Games 2d ago

It doesnt always* mean uninformed.

Sometimes, not 'doing politics' means "i dont want to discuss politics with you, because i'd rather be stabbed in both ears".

This is because 'policical people' often dont like you having your own opinion rather than sharing theirs.

The chauvenism in this post gives me the impression this could be one of those times.
